ThePizzle Posted Saturday at 16:43 Share Posted Saturday at 16:43 Afternoon everyone, I'm getting back into Airsoft and I've got the ASG M40a3 Sportline, and I've been doing some research and looks like it might need a few upgrades. I'm going to look into getting some of those to help it get closer to the 500fps allowed at my local site for bolt action rifles. My question is, what is the typically rules around using a heaver bb for the match, when I've had the rifle cleared to play when being chrono'd with 0.20g BB? Is this not allowed? Or, is it OK as long as the .20g BBs are under the limit? Is it up to the site I'm playing? Thanks for the help, I tried the search function, but couldn't see anything. Impulse Posted Saturday at 17:00 Share Posted Saturday at 17:00 Any site that chronos on .2s is asking for trouble. Every site I go to chronos on the weight you intend on using in game as it gives the most accurate depiction of the gun's power. If you're chronoing on .2s when you intend on using heavier BBs, I'd class that as cheating and potentially dangerous. Pretty sure if I got my m700s firing 500fps on .2s, they'd end up being over 3J, possible over 3.5J, on .48s because of massive joule creep. Springers don't joule creep as much as gas, but you'd still probably creep up and be over the limit. hitmanNo2 Posted Saturday at 17:11 Share Posted Saturday at 17:11 Why would you chrono on a .2? That's ridiculous. Is that at the request of the site? If so, they need a slap. Galvatron, Rogerborg and Colin Allen
Hudson Posted Saturday at 17:44 Share Posted Saturday at 17:44 This is why everyone should purchase their own chrono. You want to get it set up so that it's firing under the limit whilst using the heavier ammo you'll be using in game, and then if your site for whatever dark-age reasons still insists on using 0.20s to test, you should be comfortably under the limit with both. For example, my T10 fires at around 2.1J on a 0.45 which is what I game with. There's one site local to me, which I occasionally play at, who still use the outdated "test on a 0.2" method, and as a result the same gun will shoot at around 450fps. Safely under on both, and I know I'm not going to accidentally joule creep over the limit. ThePizzle and Galvatron

It's been a couple of years since I've played, and I'm in a new area, so not gone to any sites yet. I've always just played with an AEG so never had this scenario before. So, was just checking what's typical. I'd have assumed you'd be chrono'd against the BB weight you are planning on using. 21 hours ago, Jez_Armstrong said: Believe it or not, back in the day that's what all sites did Some sites just haven't got with the times Yup, that's exactly what my old site did. Haven't played in about 5yrs. I only ever played with .20's with an AEG, so I didn't have this issue. But since I've picked up this sniper (my brother sold it cheap, didn't use it), I've been looking into doing a sniper build and playing that in a few games. So that's why I was asking what's the rules/expectations etc.
Supporters Rogerborg Posted Sunday at 22:17 Supporters Share Posted Sunday at 22:17 Ah, right. Most sites should now be chronoing with the BBs that you're using, with limits specified in Joules. Bolt actions tend to be limited to 2.3J, but it's entirely up to the local site. I'd encourage you to stop thinking in terms of "fps" and 0.2g, it's old habit. I can tell you what energy my guns are putting out with the BBs that I use, but have no idea what fps that is. Tommikka and Impulse 1
