Hey,

Can we improve how images are viewed on mobile. I struggle with clicking through the images by clicking the arrow without them opening in another tab

How do you suggest that gets fixed? This is a Web page optimised for viewing on a mobile via your phones browser

@Hami

I noticed the same

Simple solution is to touch the black border to the left/right adjacent to the “next” arrow at the edge of your screen, and it’ll scroll without opening a new page ?

@Jez_Armstrong I’d suggest having the arrows at the bottom below the images? Side note I’m a software engineer myself and im happy to help wherever too

I've no issues opening images, they don't become secondary tabs, so possibly the issue is your settings or the browser your running.

While I can't remember what browsers I'm running, my tablet is different from my phone, but both work fine.

You mean when you click an image and it opens it up with the black boarder, you're having issues clicking the arrow on the right?

Yes exactly! Seems like you need to hit the arrow precisely to scroll images and it’s a bit janky? I’m on iPhone 13 chrome btw

Yep the picture scrolling "arrows" are a bit sensitive, especially with my podgy digits, but works most of the time, & when it doesn't it's no hardship to use the back button.

I can't see @proffrink wanting to tinker with it too much, currently everything else is working, sometimes fine tuning triggers other issues.

Why does it seem like you’re so against fixing this issue? ? It’s a bad user experience which can be fixed with some css

Lol, I'm good either way, it's never bothered me that much, if I miss the arrow, it's on me, just means I have to touch the screen twice more, but I can understand if it's tiring the gen Z's out ?

You are a user not a customer. There is no service department on this free website ;).

So are you saying we shouldn't improve on things as a community unless someone is profiting?

I'll stop biting my tongue.

Perhaps you should stop your Cathy Newman impression? "So you're saying" didn't work well for her.

A software engineer worth their salt should understand that a "bad user experience" is an individual experience. A consensus established by an end user survey of multiple customer experiences may offer more constructive feedback than declaring oneself the sole arbiter of the user experience.

Things have been improved, but it's a relatively slow process given that the admin team do this for nothing, & believe it or not they have lives & jobs away from here, so apologies if they don't drop everything to address your little bugbear.

As for profit, pretty sure the costs of keeping this site alive "for the community" far outweigh any revenue generated from the tiny inconspicuous banner at the top of the page.

Okay it feels like I’m being attacked!

A) if I’m having it others most likely are! Tackle, Encid and Anonymoose for three so It’s not an individual experience…

B) where did I make it seem like this was something I was demanding instantly or expecting anyone to drop their lives for?

I even offered to help if ever needed in future!

Honestly quite upset by this. I’ll go back to lurking…

There is a difference between an individual experience and an isolated incident.

You may not have given an explicit demand or explicit expectation BUT (I use the word deliberately because it negates everything stated before it) you did "ask" if people are against fixing a problem when it had already been explained that fixing some issues can have unforeseen negative effects. An experienced software engineer (or engineer of any kind) should have understood the predicament mentioned to you.

A thicker skin is recommended when you find people disagreeing with you.

Attacked, upset, lol, get over yourself snowflake, you've pretty much lurked for 7 years & within an hour of making a post you accused me of not wanting your "issue" put right, maybe because there's no profit in it ffs.

As I pointed out, yes I've experienced it, but it's no big deal, so no, for me it's not an issue.

& The ever increasing member list here tells me they're not getting a "bad user experience" either.

You’re both making this a toxic environment. You’re both for some reason going for me personally. There’s a section for forum feedback and I provided feedback. The issue won’t cause more problems. Stop insulting my career and skills.

if this forum is the only place you two can act like arseholes because you’re too immature to see someone just trying to get back into their hobby. I can’t play often but want to. But no you’ve come and made me feel unwelcome for a simple suggestion.

Do you both really think you’ve handled this in a fair way?

Posted (edited)

Aye,

Its no biggie, a tad annoying, but easy enough to use once I figured out my shakey sausage fingers were probably more concerns for me.

(we genuinely are a friendly bunch in here) ?

yeah it’s not a huge deal! But it’s just a little suggestion if or when the developer has a chance to tinker.
it might of not been mentioned before so what was the harm in it.

really disappointing handling from a mod as well tbh

C’est la vie. Thanks Jez
