is it possible to get p2 products like the MK9 thunderflash for use in airsoft games? i see them sold that way often but also with extensive mention of them being p2 products, was wondering if anyone does or has used them, or if its even possible to actually get them and how someone would

Never heard of them but tbh you'll be hard pressed to find a site that allows players to lob mk9 thunderflashes around. Mk5 is the limit at every site I know of

Is this a serious question?

"185 dB of sound pressure at 1m"

That's instant, permanent, hearing damage and tinnitus, plus traumatic brain injury.  Wanting to use one "in airsoft games" is a great argument for why you shouldn't be able to get your hands on one.

Frankly, I'm not even happy with Mk5 bangs in game, given the foreseeable risk of one going off right next to someone's head. Mk 7 and above have a 20 metre safe distance, for reasons that should be ear-bleedin' obvious.

If you are seriously considering using them, please have a long, hard think about WHY you want to use them.  When you have done that, if you still want to use them, join the army.

I have spent quite a bit of time messing around with serious pyro; no airsoft players should be allowed anywhere near a MK9.

The correct answer is no - as a general player you may not use P2 products

Category P2 other pyrotechnic articles are pyrotechnic articles, other than fireworks and theatrical pyrotechnic articles, which are intended for handling or use only by persons with specialist knowledge.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2015/1553/schedules/made#:~:text=Category P2 other pyrotechnic articles,by persons with specialist knowledge.

Use as SFX by suitable persons under suitable circumstances can happen - but certainly not generally thrown around at a game

A team mate had a ‘faulty’ Mk5 detonate immediately on striking, due to factory contamination * of the fuses & payload

Luckily his glove ended up as the only casualty

Pyrotechnics are explosives

* Small print for those who know who we are - this was not one of our sponsors products

As with TAG rounds, they'd be the sort of things that I'd expect to be restricted to well managed milsims where all participants are over 18 and have given informed consent to being around them.

A typical skirmish day is full of kids and chucklefucks, and nothing capable of crippling the most vulnerable participant (shooting glasses and no earpro) has any business even being on site at all.

  • 2 weeks later...

I caught a MK5 in my hoodie hood which someone threw over a fence which I was stood behind.

It went off in my hood before anyone could get it out despite being jumped on by at least two other people I didn’t know.

When it went off it burnt a huge hole in my balaclava, deafened me for the next two days and left with me a mild concussion.

I’m good for idiots throwing even MK5s around tbh…
