I recently bought a QR assault vest from patrol base but it dont fit round the old mid section lol so iv been looking for double sided mil spec velcro strips to increase the adjustment width round the stomach.

I was just wondering if anyone knows where to get some from here in the uk. I found some on ebay but its from the states but unsure of all the shipping charges etc so not really keen on ordering from there.

Any help would be great guys thanks.

I don't think that there is "military grade" velcro - I suspect that some of the cheaper hook and loop fastener stuff is not as good, but actual Velcro brand is just that good and the stuff which comes in 50mm wide Olive or Tan rolls is as good as Velcro brand. You can stitch the hook and loop sides back to back with a sewing machine yourself (or someone you know) - that is all that double sided stuff is.

But yeah, fleabay is your friend.

I've bought cheaper velcro before for things and it seems surprisingly good quality.

For something like a vest though, go for the more expensive stuff since it should be better quality. As Ian said I don't think there is really a mil spec velcro?

You're very possibly correct and for the majority of people standard heavy duty Velcro will be fine, but there IS a standard for military use (at least in the US) which defines the construction and quality requirements. It's those little differences that set it apart (like the heat resistance and number of usage cycles).

Took a while but I've found the ppl I bought my 50mm Olive stuff from (and it is strong enough for gear not just patches - i have used it to customise my British Army assault vest). Here.

You can get black from handy straps on fleabay and they're in the uk.

But avoid buying from the USA - you will definitely get hit for VAT and courier handling fee.

Linky?

You could check for it on AliExpress because it's probably manufactured in China anyway. If it's not on there they have a function where you can ask them to look for it and even at what price you want it.

For stuff like this, often seeing if 3M do anything can result in you getting stuff which actually works well and lasts. If you can find the genuine stuff on eBay you probably won't pay that much for it either.

WOW!!! I would have never believed it, mil spec Velcro, and there is me thinking the MOD only bought from the the cheapest bidder.

That's yank mil spec though. There's no info on whether the MOD bother with it...

TBF, $3.00 / foot for 4" wide multicam velcro loops seems fair enough and with the VAT it's still only going to be about £2.40 - the ball ache is how much the courier may charge you for the handling fee. May well be worth trying to find out. You never know, even if it is daylight robbery, which wouldn't surprise me, if enough of you put together it could be worthwhile - depends on the Shipping cost I spose...

Theres no such thing as mil grade, if ur after high quality go to a hobby craft store, or sewing store or maybe a cobbler and just ask them

OK I know I'm getting pedantic now, but yes, there is. The US spec is posted higherup and the MoD certainly have certain types that are approved. While they don't necessarily have an MoD spec for it, to be approved it has to meet BS7271.
