  1. That's the thing... the Poseidon. Sadly gave the kit away when I quit airsofting about 10 years ago (along with some guns that are worth an absolute mint nowadays, but you live and learn!). I would actually prefer the TM, as it is what I have known for years. As for the 'real-steel' snobbery, I can live with that... *Edit* Found a pic of the kit I had:
  2. Thanks guys - I was worried that the kit might be difficult to remove... I did have a kit to fit on a M4 about 12 years ago which was badly cast from resin which looked similar to this... never managed to get it to fit, and it had to be glued together, which I never liked the idea of. Nice to know the M4 base weapon can be swapped out as well
  3. I like to have fairly unusual weapons when skirmishing or things that aren't that common. I am not bothered about 'realism' as I airsoft to have fun. Currently I have a MC51 which is about 17 years old, which you don't see many of, a F2000 Hunter version, which I have only seen one other used, and a G5 ( which is becoming quite common now). I have seen the STAR Dragon for a while and I have always liked the look of them, but has anybody any experience with one, such as reliability or ease of repair? For those of you that don't know what I am on about, this is what they look like: Thanks
  4. A little story for you; not two-tone but similar. There is a regular who goes to my local CQB site with his son, who is about 16. he has a small Derringer single-shot pistol. In one game he was hiding behind a door in a building when another player burst in. Lad pulls his Derringer and the player promptly laughs his head off. Small bang later and said player came out with his hand up, looking rather sheepish...
  5. Bit late as you have already listed it for sale... But I always say an item is only worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for it, so list it for as much as you think it is worth and see what people offer
  6. I have the F2000 'Hunter' version, i.e. the one with the built in scope. As previously pointed out it is a huuuuuuge slab of plastic, but I quite like it, but it does have issues, such as problems on single shot (which makes it almost useless for the CQB sites I play at). One the plus side the scope is pretty accurate, it takes M16 mags and you don't see that many of them knocking around. Another bullpup I absolutely love is the P90 - I owned 3 TM variants at one point, and they are very solid and reliable. Sadly I have no experience of the P90s made by other manufacturers, so can't really give feedback on them. The TM FAMAS used to be the weapon of choice for new starters, and they were virtually indestructible. Because of this most sites offered them as their hire guns. The only down sides to the TM FAMAS would be actually finding one and the price. If you have the spare time and the means available it might be worth visiting one of the larger physical retailers and handling some of their weapons as this might give you a better idea of what would be suitable for you.
  7. As previously said, we all have to start somewhere. Some people will poo-poo you for your two-tone, but at the end of the day if that's all you can get then so be it. I have never been a 'serious' airsofter in over 16 years - I wear what I want, and use whatever weapon(s) I want; I don't care about realism just to have a good time. Some people are ultra serious, and this is where you may find some snobbery. As for sites banning two-tone weapons? Well, they probably won't be worth playing at as a new starter (they probably cater for the 'realists') Baz JJ summed it up - research and have fun
  8. For many years I have used bottles that previous contained ironing water...Comform Vaporeese or Tesco Ironing Water. Both of these have built-in funnels and make filling hi-cap magazines incredibly easy. Obviously dry the bottle thoroughly first...

In reality you probably wouldn't get permission from the Police, especially considering the current threat level to the UK: https://www.mi5.gov.uk/home/the-threats/terrorism/threat-levels.html My advice; wear some kit trousers and a Help for Heroes t-shirt... that way you are in some gear but promoting which charity you are running and raising money for - keeps it simple and avoids any unnecessary unpleasantness.
  10. I have several moral patches I wear, and I often put them on my combats on a whim. Popular ones: Keep calm and carry a towel (Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy reference) Pork Chop Express (Big Trouble in Little China reference) My Name is 'Ash' - Housewears (Evil Dead reference) Keep calm and kill zombies The only patches I wear all the time are my Paramedic flashes, and a subdues 'Star of Life' on my cap. Nobody has ever comment in a bad way regarding my moral patches, and those people who get the references have always commented in a good way
  11. I have been having a look around at European retailers, as often their prices are better compared to most UK retailers. I have found a website called airsoftshop.de who offer free shipping to the UK on orders over 150Eur Has any body ever used them at all? Thanks
  12. The site will need Public Liability Insurance. Even if you sign a waiver you can still claim against the operator's insurance if you injury yourself, especially if the injury is life altering. Public liability is a bit of a minefield, which is why it is always recommended that businesses ALWAYS have at least Public Liability cover. It will always be advisable that a site operator seek legal advice, especially in regard to injury waivers or acceptance or risk documents to ensure they are valid and enforceable.
  13. Hi Mack My bad - I knew there was a sticky about info and stuff, but didn't actually read the posted threads which do cover the exact same thing I suggested regarding advice for starter guns.
  14. Here's a suggestion. A thread is created whereby advice is given regarding first guns, in's and out's etc. and it is made sticky in the New Players & Arrivals forum. Add a link to this in the New Player Guides & Info thread and also included a link in the welcome message accompanying a new member. When a new person posts their "what am bestest gun" thread a member can then reply with a link to the above thread. New player gets advice, seasoned forum members have a way of directing players to the info they need, everybody is happy
  15. Would drag the caravan down, so ideally would be wanting to stay on the site Sunday night...
  16. Firstly, I would ask; are you new to airsoft? If you are then you really don't want to spend a lot of money on your first gun. This is because your spacial awareness might not be brilliant to start with, and the last thing you want is to spin around quickly whilst skirmishing, hitting your gun and breaking it in half. If this does happen, and you have spend a fortune on your gun, you would be mightily annoyed. There are quite a few guns that would suit a beginner on a budget - once you get the hang of things then you can progress to something 'awesome'
  17. It's good to know it is the same as it has always been... sadly, I have never been so don't have a clue about what to expect or timings of things, so even though seasoned regulars may know what to expect new plays will not. Thanks for your info though - that certainly helps a huge amount - not sure about the leaving after the game finishes on Sunday though... long drive home following a day running around...
  18. Being the pedant that I am, I am worried that such a big event makes no mention of either insurance or medical provisions on site... As BrightCandle has stated, there are no mention of event timings - if I did bring my caravan (I am too old to 'slum it' anymore) I would have to drive down from Doncaster, a drive of 4 hours (at least)... with no access to the site before Friday morning I wouldn't be able to travel down the night before - if there is a game on Friday I would miss most of it. There is also no mention of what time you have to leave as well - I wouldn't fancy playing all day Sunday only to think of a 4 hour drive back home...
  19. But that doesn't automatically exempt the site operators from any sort of liability. For instance; the site (probably) won't be liable for a player sustaining an injury from a bb, but they will be liable for a play sustaining an injury from say part of the safe zone collapsing or a player sustains an injury from unsafe structures. Yes, there are risks in this sport, but there are risks in other sports and organisers will have to have public liability insurance. A quick Google search for 'paintball public liability insurance' brings up lots of insurers that are willing to offer public liability for paintball as well as airsoft. I think site operators might be getting confused with the classification as a 'extreme' sport. Lots of personal injury insurances don't cover in the even of an injury sustained during an extreme sport, but companies do offer personal injury insurance for such occasions. This does not mean that a site operator doesn't need public liability insurance as a minimum (as there are lots of other insurance products that a site may need).
  20. Ouch... in that case find another site to skirmish at! Even though airsoft can result in small injuries there should still be at least public liability insurance in place. You basically sign a waiver to say that you accept certain risks, etc. This is as ludicrous as sites who don't provide adequate first aid cover, and I have even heard of sites suggesting teams have their own first aiders...
  21. Hi, and welcome to the forums. I was in your position last year, returning to airsoft after a break of 10 years. I still use my TM MC51, which is about 17 years old - just had the hop rubber replaced as (surprise surprise) it had perished. It took me a little while to get back up to speed with all the things that have changed since my absence, but you will get there
  22. Which is why ALL sites should have trained First Aid staff... sadly I feel this isn't always the case...
  23. The Stan in Sheffield - old Stanley Tools factory with lots of floor space over several floors including the old offices and the factory floor. Operated by Skirmish Airsoft. Also operated by Skirmish Airsoft is Wentworth CQB. This is only run once a month but sounds like what you are looking for. The site is 5 former accomodation blocks with a small area outside, so it is a good mix of indoor and outdoor; it can be very intense. These are the only two I have experience of; I am sure there are others and I am sure other members will post their thoughts.
  24. Using the word 'gay' to describe somebody who is homosexual isn't an insult, and is actually a word used to describe a persons sexual orientation, as used by networks and communities to describe people who are not heterosexual, i.e. LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender). Using the word 'straight' to describe somebody who is heterosexual shouldn't be taken as an insult either... Using either expression shouldn't be considered hate speech either. I will add this regarding the usage of the word 'gay' - as pointed out, gay referred to somebody who was carefree, happy, or 'showy', as in 'what a gay day' meaning 'what a happy day', (a phrase which became a catchphrase of the entertainer Larry Grayson). The word was later used to describe a homosexual person, quietly replacing the original usage in modern language. 'Gay' is also now being used to describe something rubbish or stupid, especially among younger people, which obviously causes some issues as some observers draw a connect between the current 'accepted' use of the word. Often, to avoid word filters or accusations of homophobia, the word is written as 'ghey' especially online, and has come to be accepted as referring to something that is 'lame'
  25. Suggestion: What if there was a 'general for sale' section in the Supporters forum? This way, to sell non-airsoft stuff you will have to be a forum supporter, meaning AFUK gets something towards the running of the forums, and members can have another outlet for selling unwanted items to like-minded individuals?
