Question for the more experienced techy guys, I have recently installed a 250mm 6.03 barrel in my GR16, (originally a 360mm) since then the FPS has dropped from 335 to 280, nearly 50 FPS. is that normal for a shortened barrel?
Compression seems good, if I block the end of the barrel and fire, it causes a lot of resistance, and the hop up seems to be sealed nicely. It has a m100 spring as it was shooting hot at 380 when I bought it, bearings, shimmed and a guarder high torque motor.
So will 11mm barrel make that much of a difference or should I be looking for other issues?

If their flesh was necrotic enough to be damaged by a bb they would not be able to move. Their legs and hips would literally collapse under the weight of their torso.

You see I'm in a different boat, I much prefer co2, you can get five mags to a bulb, consistent power, not effected by the temp. They are by no means hard to change and give good firepower. My next pistol will definitely be co2.

No we can't that's the point of the tread, both options are available and both have advantages and disadvantages, you look at your requirements and chose your gear to reflect it, for some a Mini Mav for 3 mags is plenty, for others a 1961 rig is required. Just because one is different doesn't make it any less valid.
Molle has the advantage of being modular and can easily and quickly be changed to your personal requirements, the SA vest for example has the advantage of being able to carry a large amount of gear conveniently, comfortably and in the right place when you need it. It really does boil down to your personal choice.

You have to remember that in the UK not everyone is exposed to firearms and the correct shooting techniques lessons and disciplines. They see see what they see on TV and COD.
Some of us rural inbreeds grew up around weaponry, but for some city folk, airsoft is the first time they have ever been able to hold anything other than a waterpistol.

Alright, calm your tits we are arguing the same point.
I don't know where you get I'm anti Mil sim from, because its quite the contrary, I have a lot of respect for proper Mil Simmers, and I agree that a DMR can be valuable. But not every game is a Mil Sim, and for every well meaning hardcore DM; in my experience there are 3 morons who simply want to put a 150 spring in their Double Eagle M4 purely to exploit the higher fps rules.
As I said before maybe I am being cynical, or maybe the sites you play at have better controls than the ones I have experienced.

And there is the elephant in the room, a DMR is like little man syndrome, someone who feels the need to out FPS the rest of the field and feel superior. Often they are the ones who will be very vocal about how much their "reel steel" chest rig cost and carry a CAT tourniquet.
Although I might just be being synical ....

You have 1 gun and 1 magazine, you don't need any sort of chest rig till you have something to put in it.
Spend your money on a pair of suprus camo trousers, a good pair of surplus boots, a good pair of goggles/eye pro (facemask if under 18) a green hoody/fleece and possibly some gloves.
Play a few games and wait till you get your UKARA, if you buy a two tone/transparent gun you WILL regret it in two months time.
find a local surplus store or try ebay

This is something I have been debating with myself and the forum, ultimately it boiled down to how much do I need to carry? And in all seriousness how anyone can fill a 1961 webbing for a days normal skirmish is beyond me.
I found that 2 hi caps and a midcap is more than enough fire power and that can easily fit in combat / pcs shirt pockets. Obviously they are brilliant if you are loading out with the full 8 low caps for mil sim or for 24+ hour games where you carry your full water and scram supplies, but for the majority of weekend "have a bit of fun" skirishers all they need to carry are a few mags, some water, and a mars bar. Lugging a full webbing is ridiculous for that sort of situation, where a cheep Chinese molle vest does the job very well.
I have a SA vest and have had to remove the large side pouches because they will never get used, if I could find something to fill them they get so much in the way I cant shoot, comfortably or get at my pistol, but if I had a three day trek with minimal combat it would be ideal.
Tis evolution of design, idealism vs practicality, its the same reason the big boys are not still using flintlocks.
I witnessed something the other day that really dented my faith in airsoft and the type of people it attracts, all his gear on a belt kit, (which by itself is fine) but then wearing a condor chest rig with no molle pouches attached and the belt not attached, just wearing it for the sake of wearing it .....

We are making a lot of assumptions about what a zombie can or can't do, and it appears we are choosing their abilities to coincide with our convenience.
I believe a zombie would have a defence instinct, if it has an instinct to feed, it has an instinct to survive.
If the zombies have no reduced motor function then we are definitely on a losing battle.
Personally a bow wouldn't be any better, you are limited to the amount of arrows you can find/carry and home made ones will have terrible accuracy, once shot it's going to be hard to retrieve an arrow, it takes a lot of effort to pull repeatedly and unless you are proficient at game hunting, (which lets be honest doesn't happen a lot in the uk) you won't be quick enough. It would be a different world to field or target shooting.
If I was to carry a bow it definitely would be a recurve, simple to use and fix, you don't want to be re stringing a compound in a hurry.
The key is to survive long enough to survive. I would be heading for high ground. Get a car and find a tourist peak with easy road access and shelter with water and heat, but difficult access by foot. hopefully it will be less populated than urban areas. I would be heading up to the cat and fiddle pub in Buxton. No zombie is going to treck it up there, they are prepared for isolation and there will be limited zombie life.
In my version of Z day anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have been mulling over all the options for too long and left myself short on time. I really like the MIni Mav, but just can't justify spending £80 on one when I can get a full plate carrier for the same.
In the end I panicked and got a Multicam SA vest, it should give me enough space and flexibility, if not as gucci as I was planning. And at £35 if its useless I haven't lost too much.
I have my first woodland game at Macclesfield this weekend ... and i'm buzzing!
I will review this dilemma at a later date when I get a G5 and I need something for QCB games.

I'm torn, I cant quite decide which way to go. I'm not wanting to carry a million and ten things. the main things I need to carry are x3 m4 mags, x1 40mm BFG, x2 pistol mags, pistol, possibly some where for water and bbs and loader on a longer day.
My pistol and mags, I keep in either a fobus hip holsters, or a drop leg holster and I find that works quite well.
At the moment i'm mostly playing small indoor cqb, but looking to start playing some bigger woodland games.
In my noobish state a molle plate carrier seems excessive, but better value for money in terms of versatility, and better protection from elements in the outdoors. Although restrictive in movement and more weight.
I like the idea of a chest rig, and very almost bought a Tactical Tailor Mini Mav, but it will fill up quickly with only the basics and seems restrictive for options. Also kitted, it comes close to £80. Its limiting also to the gear I could carry on a bigger day, but better suited to indoors.
in an ideal situation, I would get a plate carrier for woodland and a chest rig for indoor, and swap the pouches over but that leads me the next dilemma of colours. I'm far from the fashion police. in the mill I like to wear dark jeans and a black hoodie with a black mask to be all stealth ninja. Obviously that ain't going to work in the wood so will be on a set of surplus mtp. Will black pouches on a mtp vest work? or will it look a bit shit?
Price wise a kitted chest rig closes on £80. Vest wise kitted are between £120 and £150 for a WAS Ricas kitted dependant on colour. They also pop up preloved cheaper.
so although a vest is a third more expensive, its also two thirds more versatile.
I really cant decide which way to go, so come on out geardos help me out share some advice and experience and recommendations.

Sick as in "dats well gud innit kid!" Or sick as in "oh look I have just vomited on the floor and it looks a bit like my gun!"?
The gun in the picture is hydrographic dipped. The chances are there will be someone local to you doing it, most probably a back street car paint shop. Where are you?
Be warned though you wil have to strip all the pieces off the gun you don't want the pattern on, remove anything that moves and remove the gearbox, barrel ect.

The GR barrel is a 3 piece light weight barrel, one end attaches into the receiver, a pipe that acts as an outer barrel and then the outer barrel tip. It's quite a complex thing to explain over the internet and takes a bit of spanner work to remove, but is fairly intuitive. If you see a bolt remove it, if you have removed it and it still doesn't budge look for another bolt, they like to hide.
The front post is moulded into the metal so it won't come off. You could dremel it, rasp it flat and repaint but it's a pain.
You can pick up a new barrel and folding front post for about £30
Or you could google co witness and just get on with it .

That is sort of how the G&G gr16 works.
It has a smaller cylinder on top of an oversized standard cylinder, which forces excess air out pushing a rod and giving you a recoil.

The thing is though what would it add to the experience? It's still got the limitations of an AEG, with none of the advantages of the GBB. In reality GBB aren't that hard to work on, and are more reliable (ime).

Changing the volume of the cylinder isn't an option as its proprietary to the pneumatic blow back, is there an alternative?
