  1. There is that I spose, Nick, but I feel sure that a well timed, "Gerroff ya knob!", would take care of that possibility. We're not supposed to carry any knives at my local site, but there's absolutely no way on earth that I'm going to run around woods without the means to pry splinters etc. out of my flesh, should the need arise. As it happens a common use my lock knife gets is poking BB's that have jammed in the top of G36 mags out, but I'd feel naked without it for all sorts of tasks which would otherwise require a trip back to the safe zone. It's not like the owners haven't seen me use it either... still it isn't as long as my forearm lol!
  2. @Nick: are they fcuking nuts? Do they actually imagine that you might pull it out and go radio rental on somebody? I swear this country is getting so soft, if anyone wanted to invade they could just arm a bunch of kids & grannies with none blunt ended scissors and cans of hairspray with lighters. Everyone would sh!t themselves but they wouldn't run, because that's unsafe too! If they wanted to make sure of success, they'd do it in winter, when there's an inch of snow on the ground: nobody could drive to intercept them...
  3. I thought you'd decided gas rifles were for masochists, Ed? It is pretty though.
  4. What do you mean by DE/CYMA? They are different brands, the first make P'sOS, the latter excellent AK's... Woodland belt kit with boonie hat looks most 'African' to me, Nick. Gotta get that Masai knife on it too! Looking good in all though...
  5. Performance wise, out of the box, my CYMA CM.028u beat the arse off any stock TM gun. It was only after I'd really dicked around with it that the problems started! But she will return...
  6. Strichtarn combats and gas mask carry bag (for use as a dump pouch) ~ £11 delivered from Fleabay &... duh, duh, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh A 'kin KGB dress uniform peaked cap!!! In my size, great condition, proper kit not repro ~ £18.50 delivered lol! Again, Fleabay
  7. Yeah, I've learned most of what I know on a CYMA AK. Nice one for getting it going! A problem I've had was when I replaced the hop chamber with a Lonex metal one and matching rubber - air seal went to sh!t For some reason when I replied with my phone earlier it ignored that I put a "€" before 90-120 and added an "M" instead of a inverted comma after AK - lol that generation of CYMA AK's are all designated as AK47's not AKM's. But yeah, some people just will not accept the demonstrable fact that CYMA AK's are better than the Tokyo Marui design they were originally cloned from. A lot of it is sure to be simply prejudice, but I have to say that I'm not a fan of the plastic receiver - still the TM one has that too! But shooting-wise, the only guns I've seen better are 400+FPS DMR's and really expensive custom jobs...
  8. @UTJ: that generation of CYMA AKMs have a 6.04mm inner barrel as standard. You can occasionally find new ones of that generation still, like on gunfire.pl and some greek site i saw a while back - they're 'kin cheap for what they are, like 90-120. TBH I don't think you'll get your money back from your shopping list. Better to have some fun with it; mate, but maybe your mate will buy it back if you make it really good...
  9. Bit of unsolicited advice, UTJ - get it shimmed and working without the sorbo pad/s 1st. You might get a problem with the sector gear engaging the piston teeth with the pad/s in and, if you do, at least you'll know what the problem is.
  10. For a million quid I have no problem cheating and, whatever I did, Chris Tarrant would still be a bigger arsehole. But yeah, my problem would be that I don't know, or want to know, anyone that is an electric valium afficianado...
  11. I hardly know anything about sport and nothing about soaps or any electric valium culture...
  12. Yeah, you wouldn't want to find yourself in my basement, Ed! joke - I'm not only old, I'm a sponge for interesting yet ultimately useless, unless civilisation ends and needs to be rebuilt from scratch, information. For eg, traditional English swordsmiths would have used the same method, except that the 2 centre rods of the blade would have been twisted before final spring tempering. Placed side by side, with each twist going the opposite way, once they are hammered together with the blade edge pieces there is a pattern left which looks a little bit like a head of barley, or fish scales even, down the centre. They used to intentionally rust the blade and then heat treat it with some mineral or other, which prevented the rust from getting worse, so when it was polished much of the blade would be dark brown with this shiny pattern running down it...
  13. £12 for a hand forged blade is good going I'd say, Nick. Maybe this one I saw was made by a particular smith or something. You know how yours is made from 4 rods pattern welded together? The middle 2 will have been pre-tempered to give the blade resilience and the outer 2 for hardness. But the heat and slow cooling during the hammering of pattern welding must anneal both types, thus must be accounted for in the pre-temper of the centre rods, because afterwards only either the whole blade or a single edge can be tempered again. A 5th rod in the centre would make it far easier to achieve the same result and also, after grinding, act to make the blade easier to withdraw from a stab wound than a flat blade.
  14. You may be right. I didn't own it though, I just saw it in a shop I was thinking of buying a deactivated PPSH 41 from. TBH though, it didn't look like something that was made to be a souvenir: the leather on the grip was thicker than on yours and stained from use. How much is a shilling worth?
  15. That's so cool. I saw one in a shop in Bristol years ago, but it wasn't flat profiled like yours. The blade had been pattern welded like yours, but around a central rod which was left unhammered. I expect it was a springier temper of steel and the edges were harder to keep an edge. Yours was probably made by a better smith, one who could harden the edges independently after the constituent rods were hammered together.
  16. Clear is a whole order of magnitude better than orange, mate!
  17. @Ed: "The requested URL /upload/product/img/GUNT0397-1L.jpg was not found on this server.!" Directorate "A" of the FSB Special Purpose Center (TsSN FSB) otherwise known as "Spetsgruppa Alfa" ?? Their urban camo is so cool and their helmets with the built in 'welding mask' lol must be the dogs' for CQB - not cheap though... How much did George pay for his? When you've sorted it out, Andy, George, you and I will have to take Tac-House: Spartan by storm lol! Get some GP30's and 96rd CO2 moscarts in for the non-hit-takers & yeah, as soon as I saw that carry bag, i fell in wuv! It's like if you showed it to someone who knows nothing about guns or militaria at all and asked them what country it was manufactured in, they would know... @Mack - glad to see I'm not the only one who wears German Para Boots with British DPM! Does that knackers protector rub or get in your way when you run? @James - added to the eternally expanding shopping list I intend to get one of these:
  18. Sounds good. Does it top 300 FPS with Abbey Ultra? How many metres range?
  19. How's the 5-7 working out for you, James? TM, Marushin, or SRC? I want one for a Battlestar Galactica loadout I have in the pipeline... Some more of my KGB loadout just arrived, woohoo! Here it is so far: All Images Uploaded with ImageShack.us Birch Digital Camo 2-Piece - not, as some believe a sniper suit (that is a 1-Piece jumpsuit), but issued to VDV Airborne Troops and KGB Border Guards and Military. Assault Vest 'A Belt' in the same pattern camo, although not an exact colour match. There are 4 colour variations AFAIK, but this is the best match to the suit I could find. It is missing the 'B Belt' - the lower belly band that is made to hold 10 grenades. IDC, I didn't want it anyway: they're not the right shape for flashbangs and. even if I do get around to BFG's, I won't need 10 FFS! Telnyashka, long sleeved, in black stripes - issued to Marines and possibly Tankers and/or Missile Troops. I prefer the look of it to the blue stripes that the KGB Military wore and I reckon that KGB officers on 'Special Assignment' would have worn whatever they liked. RS AKM canvas & brass sling. RS AKS Carry Bag CCCP 80's Issue Military Belt Pistola Makarova Leather Holster Few other bits... Missing from the photo: CCCP padded cotton winter pants. On the way: Black HFC Walther PPK-ish CO2 Pistol that I can modify into a reasonable PM copy. Still to get: Helmet - I can't decide between authenticity, the '68 Pattern, or cool, '60 Pattern "Cone Head". Belt Pouches - 1 possibly 2 x 4 Mag AK Ammo (I want to use something as a dump pouch so I may get a mortar round pouch or RPG or something like that) & a Double Grenade Pouch for bits and bobs. An original khaki summer 'Mabuta' uniform - I'm in 4 minds though because i. they're pretty rare in my size ii. I can get a reproduction but it's polycotton and looks a bit shiny compared to the original iii. a khaki summer 'Afghanka' in 54-5 should be easier to find and would be authentic-ish iv. a 'Syriyaka' would be so cool, but it doesn't have anywhere near as many pockets... I might get a leather harness & belt and also a Syria Uniform Hat & Face Mask I intend to get a Dragunov too - not to play a trad sniper role, just to carry on my back for those occasions where I need to 'reach out and touch' someone lol!
  20. Actually Ed, I think I read somewhere that electrolyte imbalance, specifically Group 1 metals, can be a factor in a psychotic episode, which could very well include paranoia... but then again, maybe I'm just telling you that because I'm one of them You're probably getting an ok amount of minerals from salad and meat, but yeah cholesterol might be an issue. The main thing to worry about is salt, because fast food typically contains a lot of it (in Subway it's in the bread). At your age the sodium shouldn't be a problem for your heart, but you do have to piss more to excrete it, which carries away electrolytes and some vitamins. Check this. How water resistant are the palm side of those mpacts?
  21. You don't think that what chest gear fits/doesn't fit what height and weight of person is useful info about loadouts? I do.
  22. Just met a skinney young lad, and i mean hide behind a lamp post, wearing a Bulle chest rig. Fitted him just fine with the straps crossed across his back and the waist cinch belt done up not quite as far as it would go. Worth considering if you can't get a vest or pc to behave for lack of flab to fill it...
  23. 'Kinell, Craig! I was 70Kg bang on when I came out of hospital nearly 2 years ago - I'd been literally at deaths door and lost something like half my muscle mass from my arms and legs. At 6' 70Kg is underweight. Fast metabolism, I know. Same as when I was young. Here's a thing, I couldn't often face eating breakfast - still can't usually. But when I was young I used to get up and crack on with an energetic life. I had to have a urine test as part of joining the army - I got a knock back because there was protein in my urine. It took a while to work out what the problem was - believe it or not, not eating breakfast... What happens is that living like that forces your body to work at higher efficiency, so when excess carbohydrate is in the process of being converted to fat, the process is halted and reversed, converting glycogen into glucose in your liver. This apparently leads to protein in the piddle. Just in case it happens to you... Oh, and btw, being underweight and leading an active lifestyle does put a strain on your organs which does mean they are more vulnerable to infection. In fact your whole immune system is put under strain and also functions such as laying down calcium in your bones, which when compromised leads to bad teeth, and even electrolytes in your brain - which can cause memory loss, difficulty in concentration, mood swings, "personality disorders", depression and possibly bi-polar disorder.
  24. I'm 5'11" 93Kg so not exactly slim, but my RICAS isn't tight at its minimum. I've got it set pulled tighter by rearranging the way the bands tie inside the back, because I want it tight enough to help support my back. I suppose they must be made with wearing more underneath in mind, but I'd have thought that there aren't many soldiers who are as big as it can go at maximum size, whereas there must be plenty of people who could do with it smaller.
