Macks airsoft dreamers of the week thread
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Mack's topic in General Discussion
That was the point to my question Tackle... not bothered what people spend - its their business after all, I waste £££ on other stuff outside of airsoft. I didn't mean to bruise anyone's ego by asking the question. If someone has the hard-earned to throw parts at an already high-end gun that's their call, I'm just interested as to the thought process behind it. My view being (and it is only my view) that if I was a serious player looking to increase my competitiveness I'd rather look for a platform that already has what I'm looking for - and there are a lot of good choices out there (assuming they're in stock ) - any additions being very basic alterations such as a more comfortable stock or a different sight. Of course I understand that everyone has different wants and needs, and not all standard platforms offer "everything" to everyone. It's more the ripping apart of perfectly serviceable gearboxes, swapping motors, adding MOSFETs, farting about with different barrels, general binning of parts that out of the box I'd imagine would be perfectly adequate. "FFS, get out & play with it, whether it's a £100 gun or costs £1k, it'll usually do exactly what it's supposed to within the boundaries of physics, no amount of money spent will surmount the laws of physics while staying within site FPS limits"... think this comment best sums it up really... I'm as big a tech-head as anyone, however as an engineer there's two principles I adhere to religiously - keep it simple, and if it works, don't faff with it... -
Eyepro - Ski-goggle Type or Glasses-type?
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Little White Balls's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Would love a Warq as it would match my unique slightly sci-fi-ish loadout, plus providing excellent protection and it would allow me to wear glasses if I ever fancied a day off the contact lenses whilst skirmishing. Problem is they're feckin expensive. I have considered a Future Warrior (slightly Warhammer 40k-ish and has built-in fan) or a G4. Again however they're dear. -

Not entirely sure what the point is in ejaculating a wodge of moolah on a posh, Gucci airsoft weapon then swapping out shitloads of bits in it for even more moolah. What's the benefit, aside from massaging one's overinflated ego or enhancing someone else's bank account? I'll stick to my budget junk that does the same job, flinging plastic spheres at not-very-stunning velocities towards the opposing players... -

Let me get this straight. Twelve hundred quid for an Airsoft gun. Regardless whether its been blessed by the Machine Gods of Warhammer 40k, or has a tungsten inner barrel with titanium gears and a 100000rpm motor that runs off a mini fusion reactor, or has xyz other features designed to impress Gear Geeks but with sod-all difference to the average player in a skirmish, it's still a plastic pellet-firing toy gun. For twelve hundred quid. Mental. -
Anyone Else Booked Their First Airsoft Game Back?
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Spartan09's topic in Other Events and Meets
Booked mine for the 11th at Tazball 👍 -
Bad wording, I apologise. Been a long and busy week at work. Brain more scrambled than usual. It was more in reference to the fact that these budget gnus come as default with NiMH units. Ofc they can happily run LiPo as long as you keep the voltage down, also most beginners tend to stick to NiMH. Or maybe that's just me. Have heard of folk running stock LT G2s like mine on 7.4V LiPo without issue. Not sure about the other makes.
-
CYMA, Specna and LT do a series of decent M4s at that price range. Most of which have plenty of rail space to install extras. None of them are metal, or run on LiPo, or spit out 40rps or have any Gucci features, but perfectly serviceable gnus for skirmishing and practice. I bought a new LT in that range. I happen to like it. It's light, compact and quite well made. Shoots well with no issues. Much if what is said about LT is keech or snobbery IMO. Much of which stemmed from an infamous YouTube video review where the gnu failed during test. From my own experience it's a sound gnu that won't set the world on fire but perfectly good for beginners - like me! All the best in your search.

The check shirt's smart. What's the gnu in that pic? The SCAR always looks cool. A bit futuristic IMO. -
Well here's my slightly more mundane gnu. Bog standard 2 tone LT933 with 4x RGB sight. Also changed the flimsyish plastic carry handle with a metal one and top 20mm mount. Could've mounted the scope straight to the receiver as there's a RIS rail under the handle but I prefer the old school top mount. Temptations - Halo-style paint job and LT Alpha stock, if it fits.

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Back home from work trip away, new sight and speedloader arrived. Soon as the kids were in bed, bunged it onto the 933 😄 happy with the result, however too knackered from work to try it out tonight. Some fun this weekend practicing in the garden to zero it. Added the rubber jibber/bayonet for a bit of old skool effect. Not sure if I'll skirmish with it mounted but will have it on my vest as a SHTF/superCQB backup. I'd imagine it's a typo, 5mW (milliwatt - typical laser e.r.p., 5MW (megawatt) is Sci-Fi weapon territory and would fry whatever it was pointed at...) Sounds about right. Still if be careful. Used to work with lasers in a previous job, as a private pilot I've known plenty of private and professional colleagues who've been Lasered by some fucking twat at night and nearly blinded - a couple of mW is enough - bloody dangerous to your eyes if not careful. I personally feel uncomfortable with others pointing them about the field, and would never fit one to my RIF. Just my opinion... -
Eye Wear for Glasses Wearer
Ebeneezer Goode replied to Angel Monroe's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
+1 for contact lenses. Admittedly I've worn them for almost 20 years however for airsoft I'd be utterly knackered if I had to rely on my glasses. -
Well, it's certainly unique... you've got balls 😃 MilSimmers everywhere will recoil in sheer horror 🤣

Great post, and sums up the frustrations many feel I think. Firstly, forgive the rant - currently stuck on a very remote wet and windy Scottish island (key worker for my sins) and rather hacked off with Corona and our beloved Scottish and UK Governments trying to out-North Korea North Korea in terms of continual removal of freedoms... I'm a total newcomer to airsoft, so I'm not sure how many of these issues are due to Corona/Brexit. Considering a large bulk of airsoft gear is Made In Covidland and much is probably imported via the EU I'd imagine there is some impact. However, as a newcomer I'm genuinely shocked at the total lack of availability of stock generally among airsoft retailers in the UK. Without wanting to brag I have a number of very niche hobbies - aviation, motorcycling, music, assorted outdoor stuff like kayaking/fishing/hillwalking/camping), airsoft also being very niche, however none seem to have the ongoing chronic supply issues that airsoft retailers have. Various retailer websites are filled with good-looking RIFs, most of which (well over 50%) are continuously labelled "Out Of Stock". Interesting stuff (i.e anything non-M4 - AKs, G36s, Sci-Fi, other platforms like bullpups, G3s etc.) is utterly non-existent. Electric Pistols are particularly badly affected, there's a glut of gas stuff but the electric models are never in-stock, ever. I'm fully aware that the laws of supply and demand are at play here, the MTP-clad M4 or AK wielder being almost an airsoft cliche (not having a go at anyone, purely an observation - wear/use what you want IMO!) however the supply of airsoft RIFs is, to quote a popular Scots expression, pish-poor. So, to sum up, my wish would either be 1) acceptable and accessible stock availability, or 2) airsoft retailers stop tempting us with non-existent stock... if its OOS then remove it from the site!

***Warning - SciFi geek alert*** -The Snow Wolf M41A is crying out for a functional MOSCART launcher (relocate battery elsewhere - block/crane instead). It's just not the same without one... plus more ergonomic and practical mags! Current ones are a faff which puts me off getting what's probably my dream rifle (stocks non-existent anywhere anyway). -MG42-based M56 Smartgun. With articulated arm & breastplate of course. -Generally more sci-fi stuff. Was watching Deep Space 9 the other night, some tasty looking laser rifles in use. Crying out for airsoft versions. As nice as they are, there's just too many M4/16/AR15s and AKs!
-
Very nice! The sight goes well with the overall look of the rifle. I actually like it in the 2-tone, it kind of suits it. I'm in the 2-tone club as well, personally I don't care, mine is green which is one of my favourite colours anyway... Just bought a Goetland sight for my M933 off Amazon yesterday which should be arriving tomorrow. Going for the old-school carry handle-mounted look. Wanting a pistol as a backup too, however AEPs are crazily thin on the ground for some reason. Heart set on something trad-styled and compact... 1911 or M9. Did fancy a DE however they're like cannons... can't be bothered with gas - more maint, propellant, cold issues (I'm in the Highlands), most springers out there seem to be disposable cheapos that break within 5 mins of first use. Plus semi-/full auto useful. All just my newbie opinion of course, we all have our preferences...
-
I'd look at the internals first before worrying about the externals. Personally I'm not fussed about having a metal gun. I'd rather have something with good quality internals. Don't have any experience with G&G so can't judge fairly, CYMA seems to generally offer decent spec for the money however and generally represent good value in my view.

Completely agree... I like PB and their prices & service are good, however the Boneyard is baffling... stuff that's busted/bodged/missing parts and yet charged at full price... mental. 190 quid for a fooched two-tone gun... to quote Tim Taylor from Home Improvement... "Aeuuuhhhhhh?!?!?" -

Just bought a plain olive tac shirt and a new metal M4 carry handle with top RIS (to replace the flimsy plastic one I currently have) on Amazon. Wife not amused 🤣 -

I tuck my trews in to my boots. Twists can be a pain to use. -
I use Bolle Cobra, haven't tried them out in a game yet but wear them all the time when practicing at home. Would agree with everything above - never skimp on eye-pro - the most important piece of kit in your loadout!

Haha, been 10 years since I left Edinburgh but some things just don't rub off... RainX is fine stuff. Got a bottle in the garage, very handy. The wife thinks I'm nuts taking this up with all the gear etc but I'm dragging her along to a skirmish at some point 😎 -
Crying out for a Halo-style paint job IMO...

Thanks mate... Want to get a full face helmet eventually but if I spend any more money in this the wife's going to go radge. Was considering boxing mouth guards as an option to avoid broken teeth but not sure if that would do the job. Might get a mask if that's the case. The balaclava is windproof so should take the sting out of shots (hopefully). Antifog spray works well (experience with motorcycling haha!), I have other tops to wear (olive green) in warmer weather. Thanks for the advice chaps, muchos appreciated. -
Hello From Another Newcomer

Planning on going to Tazball near Inverness as that's the part of the world I'm in. Have a couple of mates who've played there in the past too and say it's good.
