  1. Ahoy and welcome. Sorry, no idea on the local sites there, hopefully someone local will be able to point out the peaches and lemons.
  2. Sorry to hear that. Did she find the receipts? (Too soon?) I'm not clear on what your priorities are. "Not on show" and "not too messy" sounds like you want them inside some sort of structure, rather than just bin bags and a tie-down strap holding them together. Do you care if it's secure? Are you after something more, or less, complicated than a Björk cupboard from Ikea?
  3. Oh, that's a smart idea, I'm going to stea- share it.
  4. Adds 50% to the retail price, legit. https://www.airtac.me/shop/p/fully-upgraded-stickers?rq=stickers
  5. Caveated that with airsoft quality control, nothing is guaranteed. It's just more likely that you'll get a good, usable example of a Silverback or (gritted teeth) SSG-10 than a cheap JG or CYMA. Steyr Scout is also getting some love.
  6. Nah, you only need to change the hop rubber. And arm. And unit. And barrel. And add spacers. And change the spring. And piston. And guide. And trigger unit. Once you've spent another £300 on it to replace every single internal part, it'll be fine... It's an airsoft truism that all decent bolt actions are built, not bought, but my Silverback TAC-41 says otherwise.
  7. I honestly wouldn't like to say. Some of those no-brand Amazon and eBay specials have reasonable polycarb lenses, some don't. Price is no indicator. Apologies, I don't run an integrated helmet-and-mask, so I can't point you at anything specific. Reputable brands are Dye, Valken (I run an MI-7, you can remove the peak and fit it with a helmet), Bolle, Revision, Pyramex (the I-Force dual pane glasses). I you want to go full face, you can use any paintball[*] rated eye/face protection for airsoft, just not the other way around. [*] Sold by actual paintball suppliers, e.g. https://www.justpaintball.co.uk/collections/paintball-masks-goggles rather than Amazon "paintball airsoft motorcycle action army adventure skydiving fancy dress..." style sellers.
  8. That does actually make sense, I pistoled up before I had my UKARA number. Got anything in mind yet?
  9. Ahoy and welcome. Yes, you'll discover muscles that you never knew you had, as well as soft and fragile bits. The best initial advice is don't blow the kids' inheritance on an armoury of two-tones. You'll get a bit hit of adrenaline from both playing and purchases, but the classifieds are full of "never/barely skirmished" guns. Best to rent until you have a defence and are sure you'll stick with the hobby, or at least keep a rein on spending. Footwear, eye and face protection are the first priorities, shooty things come later. Tips on playing are just: call your hits regardless of what's going on around you, and never take any of it too seriously, even if others are. It's just dress-up and hide-and-seek with toy guns at the end of the day.
  10. Eh, it is what it be. My G36 (with an adjustable spring tensioner) shoots 1.2J on 0.2g but bang on 1J with 0.28g, at maximum pre-tension, which isn't far off of the difference you're seeing. This is OK, since I can dial it down to get under 1.1J with 0.2g for CQB, and I'd rather keep it usable indoors with 0.2g and outdoors with 0.28g without spring swapping. My DMR is shooting 1.8J with 0.32g. I couldn't even tell you what it's shooting with 0.2g, or any other weight, because... well, why would I care? I've tuned it for the BB weight that I use with it. That's what you'll have to do too, one way or another. 60 degrees might be a bit grabby for 0.4g, have you considered 70? Looks like it's already got a rotary hop, I wouldn't change that. Air seal spot on?
  11. Oops, sorry, I forgot this was your day job. 🤦‍♂️ Thanks for sharing actual info with us, I really appreciate it. Shooting isn't the issue, it's the appearance. Whether a bunch of parts that could be combined into an IF counts as an IF, phew, who knows? You'd have to be very unlucky to fall foul of the law there.
  12. If I were hoping that someone might pay me eighteen hundred pounds for a toy gun and a sight that won't make it any more accurate than the cheapest Chinesium red dot at airsoft ranges with airsoft accuracy, I reckon I'd make a bit of an effort to come across as a reasonable chap who would be a pleasure do to business with. Of course, other opinions are available.
  13. We do indeed. "Traditional European neo-pagans", or whatever they're calling themselves this season. In the News section, there was a chap who got done for taking the Mid Century History a little too seriously, and the villain claimed that he'd bought all the historical paraphernalia for his airsoft team. Yuk.
  14. Ohhh, I think I get it. Does the picture above actually represent the unit when the mag is inserted, then? And when it's out, that arm on the left drop down and levers half of the tube up inside itself?
  15. This chap? On information and belief, I understand that he may be more of a "Mid Century History Enthusiast" than Mustard. It's fun to watch these things kick off from a safe distance, but you don't want to get within splattering distance when anyone is crapping in their hands and throwing it.
  16. How's it working out for you? Specnas can be a bit patchy but mine's a solid performer.
  17. Mmm. Combat Machines were already struggling to make the solid-but-no-frills argument at the £130 price point. At £180 new (or £150 for a used, shagged out one, plus postage), naaaah, hard pass. Still, nice of him to "cover" fees that the buyer was never paying. 🙄 The 1911 of optics, won two Gulf wars, gobbless.
  18. One, I could see, but how can it move multiple BBs upwards once there's nothing under the bottom one? 😕
  19. You might very well be right, and an IF it should come through OK eventually even if it gets caught and a firearms declaration is demanded. But I have to ask, is your experience from this year, as things seem to have been tightened up.
  20. "And then James May repeated the words of my brother from over forty years previously. Meccano put deliberate mistakes into their instructions to encourage young minds to find their own engineering solutions. And creeping up behind me like an unwelcome proctologist, the sense of betrayal returned."
  21. What I hope is that you'll do an honest appraisal of the MaXXX versus the ZCI, ideally a before-and-after bench test with the variables and human factors minimised. So much of this hobby is about feeling good about what we fit rather than any objective benefit.
  22. And "holiday rules" apply when it's not your local site, and especially if you've dropped £100 on the experience and feel a sense of entitlement to enjoy yourself any way you fancy. My rule of thumb is that 5% of any subsection of humanity will be absolute throbbers. I reckon 380 people at this event won't really need telling how to behave, and 20 won't listen. It all comes down to enforcement on the day. Gets back to my other hobby horse about door staff having the ideal skill set for marshalling. Now this is actually heartening to hear. I don't want anybody to have to be kicked off site, but the sooner it happens to the 5%, the better it is for everyone else.
  23. Which will be enforced even less than muzzle energy. And nobody here has said that. We're baffled by why some toy guns are being arbitrarily restricted in ammo and usage based purely on their external appearance. What's changed once is likely to change again. Not that it matters much at the end of the day, it just winds me up because I like to play strictly by the letter and spirit of any rules, but it's impossibru to do that if they keep changing. And one of my least favourite parts is being howled at by a marshal because they didn't read the last-second update, or - as I'm sure we've all experienced - didn't even listen to the safety or game brief. Now, here, I 100% agree. However. It's less work to get things right than to get them wrong. When organisers still choose to make it up as they go along, and hope for the best, they deserve to be admonished for it. Make shaming great again.
