Help identifying a grenade used at a recent game
Rogerborg replied to TCSquirrel's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Ahoy and welcome, but that's a new one on me. 9 primer detonations seems excessive. There were some small 3D printed cap firing grenades that were briefly popular (Airtac did some, then stopped) but they fired all 8/9 caps simultaneously, not sequentially. That implies fairly complicated internals. I'd be fascinated to know what that was. -
True, although I don't have to check my thermometer, barometer, and horoscope before packing my bag.

Er, then adjust the hop? Generally you'll want to go as heavy as your hop can lift without losing significant muzzle energy. For example, I can run 0.2g at 1.2J, or 0.28g at 1J, with the lower energy coming from having to exert more hop pressure. I run the 0.28g though, as it ends up going further, more consistently, than lighter BBs. If you can lift it, 0.3g or 0.32g is even better. It costs more per magazine, but not necessarily per hit.

UK POST - AI500, Operation Flashpoint, 1st & 2nd October 2022

That was really well done, and absolutely nails that we can still have fun despite everything a badly run site or event does to try and stop up. Subscribed, and thanks. -
Lets discuss the difference between cultures about guns
Rogerborg replied to truckinthumper's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Headlines when it happens in North Carolina suburbia, just a slack weekend in Chicago. https://heyjackass.com/ Mostly suicides. Looking at a map, a lot of the deaths are in restricted ownership States https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/ If I could Thanos-snap all firearms out of existence, everywhere, forever, I'd do it. Short of that, in Murca, I'd focus on mental health and the wars-on-whatever that incentivise crime, rather than trying to remove legally held guns. -
Corrected to £600 now, what a spoilsport.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Ditto, but there doesn't seem to be much about it. Cardiff Crown Court docket only lists the basic timeline of the sentencing on October 5th, and I can't find a record of the charges. It won't appear on BAILII since it's "only" Crown, and not contested. The thing is, I could easily see lazy journos (but I repeat myself) dropping the "imitation" from an imitation firearms charge to spice it up, but adding it in when it wasn't there to begin with seems vanishingly likely.

Welshplod have done this firearm-airgun armed nutter for an imitation firearms offence. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/neighbour-bangs-grandmothers-door-air-25182750 It's a very curious charge, since either FA S16A (or S19) cover firearms (which airguns are) or imitation firearms. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27/section/16A On pure speculation, it may not have been functional, therefore not a 1J+ lethal barrelled firearm, so they went for imitation instead. But whatever the reason, he went guilty, and it's a Crown Court precedent now. Next time we have the whole "Akchyually, something can't be both a firearm and an imitation firearms, because that would make me feel bad in my feels", this is so getting cited.

Well, that's better, if belated. And goes to show what a soapy-shouldering lie it was to say that there was no way they could chrono that many players. Using site BBs, or did they just trust you? Yup. #NotAllHPAWankers, but every time I've been mashed up in CQB, it's been by an HPA wanker. DMRs, HPA, I'd sod them both off. -

During the voluntary chrono that they said they wouldn't be enforcing? Doubting why someone running over 3x the allowed power level would show up to that. Even if specifically told to chrono, you could just feign gun problems and go and dial it down. Also, their published policy - as noted earlier, but it may have changed now - is that the only punishment for hot guns was putting them away. So I agree with kicking anyone running that hot off the site, but their published policy of not doing that rather invited it. I know, this is all anecdotal, it's not aimed at you. It's just that there clearly is no basis for trust at these big events, and that running them on a reactive, hope-for-the-best way is a woeful failure of the most basic duty of care. -

And then, a risk to safety having been clearly identified, the day was halted until everybody had been chronoed using site ammo, right? Riiiiiiight? To be clear, I don't blame AI for it happening, because, like hit-dodging, it's not something that they can magically prevent. What matters is their response when it does happen. "Phew, glad we found the one person on site doing that, glad it'll never happen again." isn't ideal. -

Liiiiitle bit. How did that become apparent, and what were the consequences? -
Typically CYMA. M14 for classic styling, or CM.098 for SR-25. Of course, many other platforms, brands and budgets are available. I'm running one based on a Specna Arms SA-E02 (i.e. a 5.56mm carbine) with a barrel extension and solid stock, it really comes down to preference, budget, and site rules. At the end of the day, they'll perform as well as the nozzle, hop unit, rubber and barrel allow. The BB doesn't know or care what the externals look like.

I mentioned VFC because I think Luke is in an "I'll never, ever touch 'em" phase (again). Same with TM recoils. Still, give it 5 minutes.
-
Fair point. Personally I'd yeet DMRs right out of the game because they're regularly abused to trigger spam, despise any rules about 2 second delays / 1-in-the-air. But that's between your conscience and your site. Please be aware that DMRs are (almost always) made, not bought. Whatever you get, you'll need to - at a bare minimum - replace the spring, and find a way to lock it to semi that will satisfy your site. They may also have some ideas about what constitutes a DMR, i.e. it has to be based on a 7.62mm / .308" gun rather than 5.56mm.

Thoughts on YT channel Negative Airsoft
Rogerborg replied to BigBell1987's topic in General Discussion
Do you imagine that the answer will come within an airsoft-mile of the truth? I also enjoy this place as a break from the Twatbooks, but in some cases that means making liberal (small l) use of the ignore feature. -
What's wrong with your Lancer? Or rather, what are you expecting a more expensive gun to do differently?
-
Anything[*] you like the look of, plus a round-trip to Luke at Negative Airsoft. Really. Don't make me break out the memepics. [*] Not you, VFC.

I'd guess that mall site is into five figures for a weekend, with the usual hair-splitting over whether it's in-use and non-derelict for purposes of paying rates or not. I'd be looking at bare minimum £200 per marshal for the weekend, so maybe £2000 for those who showed up. That's where I'd want the money to have gone, and it seems that's exactly where they skimped and saved. Of course, it's entirely possible that their marshal team (such as it was) were doing it at mates-rates or were mugged off into volunteered their time. Anyone know? Liability insurance, phew, no idea. I mean, if they had any. At least they wouldn't need weather cancellation cover. Running events this size is a thankless, grinding task, and I can see why Sharon there got a bit tetchy. There's a Facebook thread about bookings where she says "email me, DO NOT reply to this post", and of course, it's full of replies. But it's not like she's doing this as a charity gig, right? This is money for what are ostensibly professional services, not the kitty for some local club. Imagine you'd paid £100 for weekend entry to some amusement park that was overrun with ferals jumping the queues and spitting in your chips, and that this was a known problem that went on weekend after weekend. Do you think the site could shrug it off by saying "Blame the other customers, nothing to do with us."

Another way of reading that is "We are unable to provide the service that you paid for, please claim a refund."
