Which Red Dot sight?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I’m looking to purchase a red dot sight but to be honest reading up on the vast quantity of models, brands and reviews has me turning to those far more versed and experienced than me!

I recently purchased a set up which was claimed to be awesome, for the price point (£150) it may well be but as reviews come through and my own personal view of it, it appears to be nothing more than a real cheap rebranded piece of junk which is far more ‘decorative’ than it is useful.

The saying ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ has bitten my ass again… my own fault entirely (and the recommendation from a local supplier)

Anyhow, is any of you fine gents can point me in the right direction of a fine piece of kit that would be at home on an M4 or MP5, I would be most grateful.

Non-magnified?  Tube, or reflex?

For non-magnified airsoft purposes, I get on fine with this style, which is sold in many many rebrandings from Amazon, eBay or AliExpress.  I have two. They're light but solidly enough made, hold their zero over a day, are bright, and have a variety of reticules. Importantly, they're cheap enough not to cry over if you run without a sight protector and they get shot out.  I really can't justify paying more than £20-£30 for a sight that's more consistent than the BB.

What don't you like about your current sight?

For something that looks good on either an M4 or MP5, I'd suggest an Aimpoint clone like a Comp M2 or M4 https://www.skirmshop.co.uk/1x30-m2-red-dot-with-cantilever-mount.html or https://www.skirmshop.co.uk/m4-red-green-dot-with-laser.html

Alternatively you could look at EoTech clones like this https://www.skirmshop.co.uk/hhs-red-green-holographic-hybrid-sight-e-154208224.html (which also comes with a magnifier for less than £150) but the main issue with cheap holographic clones is that the glass tends to be quite heavily tinted so can be a bit rubbish in low light.

The Aim-O brand is decent enough usually.

https://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/brands/vector_optics overkill for Airsoft and something like a Maverick (red dot) is around £50. They also do a magnifier to sit behind the red dot for around the same price with the same name that has a forgiving eye box and around 4 inches or eye relief. For magnified the Forester LPVO (low powered variable optic) is amazing for the price point, £140.

I have really expensive optics from the likes of Eotech, Vortex and Aimpoint and to my untrained eye all the Vector stuff I have tried is punching far above its price range.  Dont think you can really go wrong.

Vector optics is solid, especially the maverick. i have used that to snipe and the parallax is dead on.

I'd second Vector. I have a number of their sights, both red dots and scopes, and they're all really good with great quality and finish.

Thanks everyone that’s some Stirling info…

I’m out at the mo’ but when I’m home I’ll drop a photo in of my current purchase and you can all have a laugh at my expense 🤣🤣🤣 I’m laughing at myself too so no worries.

I shall definitely be purchasing something to compliment my RIF from your suggestions, just need to look at the offerings a little closer.

Ok, back now….

This is what I’ve been using and been happy with it. It’s had the mosfet trigger upgrade as my heavy handedness caused the OE trigger to start firing on its own..

Very recently I purchased this…

And was told about a ‘fantastic scope & maginifier’ about to be released and would sell out quickly so thought I would buy on recommendation….

So here it is….

The focus ring on the magnifier barely makes a difference to compensate for my dodgy eyes and the parallax error in the red dot is horrendous, absolutely zero target fix when you move your eyeline.

The recent YT review basically confirms this.

So I’m happy to take this on the chin and buy something more suitable, so thank you all for your replies, much appreciated 😁

Do you use a particular retailer for your purchases?

👍🏻

I’m shocked that your Holy warrior feels sub-par

Ive had a few, and still own two and they are excellent

From the reviews I’ve read/watched since the purchase it ‘appears’ it’s a cheap reproduction of some of their ‘better’ models.

Ive read a few reports that some of their stuff is quite decent so I can take your word for it, but this combo is not great.

a genuine and new Vortex crossfire red dot is around £160 with a complete no quibble lifetime warranty , or pick one up secondhand for £100 ish and still have the lifetime warranty .

All my LVPOs are Vector/Victoptics. My 3x magnifier is also one of theirs and they are all fantastic. Come to think of it I have their Sphinx RMR/Docter type as well. All of them are great.

Well, from your recommendations I’ve ordered a couple, hopefully be here soon.
