Variety to a stale situation?

Hey boiiiiiis.

Recently I've been thinking about giving some extra flavour to our club's game days.

We've had a pretty lame comeback from summer holidays, struggling a lot to gather enough people for a regular day (remember, here airsoft works in a different way than you guys) and I've noticed a general lack of interest in participation. The weather doesn't help either, as we haven't had a single day without rain for the last 3 weeks or so. This makes the less hardcore players think twice before getting out of bed at 6 AM.

So, a couple of days ago I launched on the club's chat the idea to have a game evening/night during the week to complement the usual Sunday morning, the idea has been well received by some members and here I am, trying to organize something :)

The location will be an abandoned fort on the outskirts of the town (we have 40+ coastal fortifications built around 1860 and used until late WW2 as AAA batteries by ze germans and what was left of the fascist regime after the armistice of Sept. 8th, 1943. Some are still in use today by the Navy and there is one small NATO comms base on a hill, many others are just left to rot because...because we're Italians, that's why...) and not our usual private field because it's a 40 minutes drive. This place is 5 minutes from my door and provides shelter from the rain.

The fort is roughly 110m x around 40/50, on multiple levels, with a couple of tunnels and staircases connecting the ground and first floors, here is  an aerial view of the area and a cool drone video I just found to give you guys an idea.

What games could I organize in there?

Some limitations:

  • 1 life only games, this is due to tournaments and the general gameplay in this country;
  • no pyro, again, for tournaments, also the place is quite close to houses and we don't want to deal with the police;
  • pistol/shotgun/bolt action/semi only, depending on people's availability. Yes, I know a semi auto AEG is OP compared to a shotgun or a bolt action, but I'm trying to get people to play, not spend extra money, some people are stingy enough already -.-
  • There is no illumination, as the place is abandoned, we will surely bring torches and we will finally have the chance to test the new NVGs and Thermals we bought last year.

This is just an experiment, if it doesn't work because nobody is showing up or no one is having fun I'll discard the idea and stick to Sunday games only.

that place looks awesome, wish we had somewhere that cool to play.

does it include any of the outer area? because a push back game with defenders starting at the gate and getting pushed up to the top level could be fun.

I don't usually "do" jealous, but that place, on your doorstep too, looks feckin epic 😲.

Here's another view from Google Earth of the area.

In GREEN the fort itself, up to the outer wall, there is a quite deep ditch all around the W/S/E sides which is not accessible. The green area on the south side, within the boundary, is the very top of the fort and is playable.

In RED the outside playable area, between the fort and the dirt road leading up to it. Straight east of the tennis court there is a tiny building with just 1 room. It is playable but it's extremely small.

In BROWN there is the parking lot

In BLUE part of the property, not playable as it is REALLY steep and ends up on the road (it's not safe at all).

This place is 14 minutes from my doorstep according to Google Maps, but usually it takes less than half to get up there.

To respond to @Adolf Hamster, a push back mode would be an absolute blast, for example starting from the gate and playing throughout the fort in a clockwise direction, pushing to the top for the first half and descending into the western wing for the absolute last stand. I'll ask the guys if they want to do it.

looking at that map it could work pretty well, if you start all the way out of the tennis court, into the fort then round it as you say.

could do it as a zoned thing with 1 life per zone or a simple 30 steps back no return kind of deal, last stand does sounds kind of fun.

when it comes to lighting if you can rely on a level of sensibility i'd say leave it unlit, would make for some interesting transitions between daylight fighting outdoors to indoor fighting in the pitch black.

1 hit and out?

See, that's the first thing I'd challenge, if you're looking to try something fresh.

Adding medics, either universal or dedicated, can mix things up a bit.  I understand that's not how things are usually played in your area, but it's not a rule carved in stone, is it?

On the site, all I can say is: [Just Cause intensifies]
