PopRocket123
I recently bought a fairly cheap 552 style sight. It came with a basic protector that slots right in front of the lens so you can hardly see it. I prefer this style of protector but it causes really bad distortion in the sight picture. are there any protectors in that style that are of higher quality or an I just going to need to suck it up and get a separate piece? Supporters Shizbazki Posted December 30, 2016 Supporters Share Posted December 30, 2016 Hi By 552 I assume you mean an EoTech 552 Holographic sight clone? I would recommend you yet get this then: http://airsoftzone.co.uk/pc-eotech-lens-protector-guns-modify They are out of stock at the moment but search around, im sure Google can find you some one who has it in stock. I have one fitted to my real steel EoTech 552 sights and it has taken a few hits by never broke, bit tight to fit but once in it aint falling out by accident unless i disassemble the EoTech's protective hood, no distortion either as the lens protector is completely flat so works well with my EoTech 552. As for distortion thats a common problem for fake or clone EoTech sights, the reason being is that these are cheap "Made in China" sights which are really red dot sights and not true Holographic Sights so they will distort and you will notice that the image through the sight is always darker because they mirror finish the front so you can see the sight. Whereas a real EoTech has no distortion what so ever unless you will push it and has clear through and through glass. Best fake i have ever handled was a G&P one but compare it with the real one and its a no contest really. Out of interest how mush did you pay for your sight? I have seen some of these clones come close to £100 new and at that price you might as well stump up for a second hand real one at £250. Read the article below to see the difference between real and fake http://www.eotechinc.com/sites/default/files/client/recognizing-counterfeit-sights_0.pdf
PopRocket123
I was looking at an ASG one for around £75 but found an identical unbranded one for around £50 so got that one instead since I'm not in a position to spend that much on an optic yet. I see what you mean about the reflective front and I've found that if there's too much light behind you you can't see anything. Eventually I'll have enough spare to get a decent one but for now I'm stuck with budget optics. Thanks for the link though I'll grab one when they come back in stock. Airsoft_Mr B
I've seen this issue come up before, it's definitely a common problem with those. Afraid I don't recall if there was a fix to it but worth a shot with the one Shiz's suggested. Otherwise yeah I'd say to go with an independent optic shield like you say, I think this style would minimise the issue but one obvious trade off is reduced protection because the sides are still open + it doesn't look as good. PopRocket123
They were both the point's I was thinking of. Luckily the one I bought came with a protector but it's pretty much unusable with the distortion but hey at least I didn't have to learn that by buying a cheap one. The sight on it's own isn't the worst sight in the world but I definitely want to replace it when I have the funds.
Dechande
I can second the 'Guns Modify' brand protectors, unlike most they are very clear with no distortion, I use them on a few Aimpoints and Eotechs. I usually buy them from Wolf Armouries, they seem to be cheaper there than on ebay.
Moderators djben9 Posted December 31, 2016 Moderators Share Posted December 31, 2016 where i would love to have a real steel version, its only a game so imitation is fine with me ....plus wife would kill me!! I picked up a scope from patrol base as well as a screen protector, i did have issues with not being able to see the sight much in the 'daylight' but ok in buildings, but to be honest i follow the line of the bbs and adjust red dot up next though as can see better in daylight
Supporters SeniorSpaz87 Posted December 31, 2016 Supporters Share Posted December 31, 2016 I have a real 552 as well, and I use the mesh protectors. My first one took at least 6 BBs from US guns (aka as hot as 500 FPS for an AEG, higher for snipers), and then I broke it myself testing how hot it could handle (FYI, it broke from a hit of 720 FPS from 5 feet). You wouldn't be able to supply would you? For that price I'd be up for paying you for the sight, postage and a small finders fee
PopRocket123
Been looking at the separate scope protectors. Are the unbranded copies decent enough or is it worth it for the branded ones?
