Hey guys,

Looking for some feedback on the latest video I've edited, I've ordered some more cameras so I can have optical zoom on the scope but some feedback would be fantastic if you could let me know what you think.

(Also feel free to subscribe, would really help me out :)

Have subbed, my feedback would be on a 5 min video not to include nearly 2 min of non gameplay. Def be better when you have a zoomed scopecam too

Cheers, yeah I agree.

Unfortunately the gameplay footage that I managed to capture a whole game of was boring as the attacking team didn't push hard enough so was just a lot of waiting around haha.

I was once told if you're lucky, you get 15 seconds to hook a viewer on YouTube. If you haven't done it by then, you've probably lost them.

I'd recommend ditching much of the first 2 mins, and knock the slo-mo-walking away. Walking is pretty dull as is, slowing it down here doesn't add much I'm afraid. And yeah the gameplay - I felt like i was supposed to be looking for BigFoot or something. You're first video was a bit better I think.

This thread title is amazing.

/troll

lol

(and wrong forum but seeing as we let youtubers post their videos anywhere nowadays then no one will care bout that either. Means we can all spam our youtube vids though so I've stopped caring and if you can't beat them, join them....

lol)

Thanks skarra, very helpful criticism there, I'm getting three cameras for next time (helmet, gun/selfie and scope) so should be a lot more content to work with to make it more engaging.

@sacarathe - genuinely looking for feedback here seeing as quite a lot of people are on the YouTube game here too. Not like I posted "You'll never believe what happened after this airsoft match...". Behave :)

BTW, I apologize for shoving my link in here, will pull it out as it was a rant at other youtubers, not yourself so was pretty childish of me

Go listen to levelcap's video about why he quit airsoft youtubing. One of the issues he raised was how he would go out trying to get good footage and having a) technical issues and B) not getting that magic moment to be worth putting up. I feel the same with Arma 3 footage, most games aren't worth editing into even 5 minutes despite getting 3-4 hours of footage a week. Don't do filler just do the good stuff.

Am going through the same with my PC gaming vids, was posting everything and it is utter garbo, am now trying to put better stuff out there for both airsoft and gaming, editing takes time and the cameras can be troublesome, not necessarily them failing but if you adjust them incorrectly you get no footage worth utilising and only playing a max of once a fortnight makes for a tough time putting decent vids out there.

Keep working at it though mate, I really enjoy making the videos so don't really care how many views I get (although obv I want a squillion! :D lol)

Everyone is doing airsoft / gaming vids nowadays, and you have to be really really good.

Every youtubers should ask themselves: What do you have that Novritch, Bodgeup, Desertfox and such don't have?

LOL are any of them actually posting current gamepkay vids of their own? Nov has gone weird lately since getting sponsored and Bodge hasn't posted much gameplay recently either.

For me, one key element to looking at an airsoft video is what it shows of the actual airsoft site, terrain and buildings, safe zone set-up, etc. If I am looking to play at a new site, it is useful to check out any videos of the site beforehand.

Yes, that's one thing I was thinking. If someone who travels a lot would put up videos that would focus on the site mainly and less on gameplay, that would be a good idea. I bet after some vids the sites would invite him/her.

I must admit, I've kind of given up on making gameplay videos. There are just too many games where nothing happens worth watching. I've realised that fun gameplay does not necessarily equate to good viewing. Plus, I tend to rotate around a set number of sites, and from the viewers perspective, each one of my videos must look pretty similar, even if the day stood out in particular for me.

There are a few threads out there where people have commented what they look for in a video, perhaps try to find one of those to find tips. A few things from me though:

- I'd say cut out the bits where nothing much is happening (I think every viewer watching will know what a walk to the spawn looks like :P )

- I prefer helmet cams over barrel cams personally, you can relate more to what the player is doing, and get more into the gameplay.

- Some kind of a hit indicator. Many use the 'Battlefield' or 'CoD' style ones, personally I just have a red 'HIT' come up above the player I've hit. Anything to visually show when someone's out.

- Try a few urban sites, or ones with more features. It looked like you were just shooting a treeline ;) Woodland sites are great fun, but I've found that, like I said earlier, fun gameplay doesn't always mean a good video!

Things I liked:

- Commentary. It's nice to have an intro and some explanation as to what's going on, I wish I had the confidence to do that in mine haha

- Fancy intro/outro animation. Just looks a bit more...professional.

- Music was appropriate and cut out in the right places.

Hope that helps! Can I ask what editing software you use at all? I've never found a easy-to-understand replacement for Windows Movie Maker, perhaps that's why I don't make them any more

I use wondershare on my PC and airsoft videos, pretty user friendly. There is better stuff out there but they are harder to learn potentially.

I'm still waiting on the Airsoft/porno crossover videos.

The sport gives you the framework of the storyboard with minimal effort >

1 - Na, can't use that - it's hot.

2 - They aren't taking their hits.

3 - Anybody seen a Glock mag.

4 - Is that guy on our team.

5 - Fuc£ing battery died.

6 - Hit.

Jedi/Samurai - that would be perfect for me (as a subscriber) to view too, unfortunately I don't have the time to travel round the country to new game sites though :(

Greg - great comments, very helpful. I'm using iMovie at the moment with Apple Motion for the graphics (you can use Adobe After Effects to do the same).
