Tad
Hey All, So I promised the game marshal that I would do a review of the site, and here we go. (WIP - I am editing this constantly for updates and such) Location : Runham woods Lenham ME17 1NQ Lat / Long : 51.223298, 0.672246 Site Map Site Rules: Chrono With 0.20g BBs AEG : 350 FPS DMR : 400 FPS (Please note, the DMR must be locked to semi-automatic / unable to be transferred to Full auto) Sniper: 500FPS If you wish to use radios' they must be using the PMR 446 frequencies, or if you hold a private license you must demonstrate this to the staff. Staff Chief Marshal : Tim Brown Great guy, completely open and willing to listen to players about game ideas / improvements (even in the middle of the game!). Very fair in his dealings with the players and a great sense of humour. Site Shop : Michael Jones Knowing it was the first open game that I attended, it was a great surprise to know they had hop rubbers with them for sale (Unexpected breakages). I can only see them expanding with people turning up to play, and even with the limited people they had the essentials ready (BBs, Flashes and Smokes). I can't say much for their stock as we were in the field for 2 hours each section and I didn't have a chance to check their prices / stock levels. On-Site Tech : Steve Pearson On the note of those breakages, the on-site tech, Steve, was ready and willing to help for anything that we couldn't deal with. He even stripped two guns down to see if he could get them going 'quickly'. Very friendly and approachable. Just look for the Drones! There were other staff on site, and i'm sure they will get plugged here as they voice their concern about being left out, however overall they were an amazing team to play with, they knew what the players wanted and how to keep us going! Also, shameless endorsement of the two ladies (Leah & Debs) cooking the burgers. They were very well received! Game Modes : Bearing in mind, this is a new site that opened on the 5th, their games were the longest i've played in a skirmish environment, As such If your BB capacity is below 500 I would seriously recommend taking a speedloader / bottle with you to keep stocked up in the regens. Game 1 To begin with, we played a Domination style game in the Valley (Far Left cut down area), which required us to hold 4 points + the command post. This was timed so that every 30 minutes the marshals would radio in the flag that each team held and record the points. The respawns are the two end gates or one of your captured flags which is not under attack. Whilst this was ongoing, our Commander was required to check in at the 30 minute mark to grab mission briefings. These were designed to make you take advantage of the 5 objectives by : - Retrieving goods from a drop point - Retrieve the capture poles in one of the objectives - Defending a point and holding it for a period of time. (I may have missed a couple as I was ambushing the other team to slow them down) Very good game, and the time length was spot on as it made us very aware of objectives and respawn points. It also added elements of communication that we found very engaging and using radios worked very well! Game 2 This game was based on VIP Extraction, in which the defending team had to get their pilot / engineer from the drop-zone and escort them through 3 flags then take them to the command post. The attacking team had to kill the defenders and hold the VIP in place. Everytime the pilot / engineer was 'injured' they were required to stop for 2 minutes, which meant bunkering down or taking the hits for them! This had a few little bugs to be ironed out, which I believe were addressed in Game 3 after speaking with the Head Marshall about it. However it was good fun but very difficult as you have to effectively split your forces to look after the VIPs and ensure your areas are clear. It used the entire field and took some co-ordination, just make sure you control your Pilot! He seemed to like running off... Game 3 Very similar to game 2, however both teams were required to grab their VIP and escort them back to the command post after checking in on 3 points. This effectively meant you are playing a run and gun game and are nearly always in contact with the other team. Also, make sure you hold the Command post first, because attacking it is VERY difficult. Recommended Gear Here are some of my recommended items for playing at this field, you do not need them (I strongly suggest on Footware) but I found that I relied on them during the game because the valley alone is huge. Water Bladder / CamelBak (You're running up and down two hills in the valley) Radio (It helped to co-ordinate with our command post / commander) Ammo (I had enough mags, but not enough BBs. I like to think I'm conservative with my ammo, however the 2 1/2 Hour games took their toll!) Decent footwear (The valley was subjected to logging, as such there are lots of piles of logs in the undergrowth that you cannot always see, plus there are rabbit / fox holes in the wooded areas) Facilities There are multiple hand made structures for the players to utilise within the safe zone, i've listed them in this section. Parking They have ample space for easily 50 cars, with a main stretch designated next to the safe zone on the sites land, plus some additional space literally across the road meaning you are only 30 seconds away from the safe zone. Toilets There are two Portaloo amenities on site, one for girls and boys. Nice and clean and easy to find. Chrono / Range They Have a dedicated range setup, complete with a few hanging cans. Player area / Safe Zone As for overall player cover, they have 4 marquee dining style tents setup over constructed tables, plus a few benches and plenty of chairs. Please bear in mind this site is still being built up and these pictures were taken during the construction process. They also have a semi-private area that you can request access for to change if required. Kitchen They have a working kitchen with hot and cold drinks / burgers, the price list will be posted here when available. The Site Overall as a newly starting site, this is great. We played entirely within the valley for the first day, but with the amount of players on site it was the best course of action. As you can see from the above game map, there is nearly 100 Acres left to play in and when people start playing there it will really open up the arena. In the valley we played, there is certainly enough foliage for even the starting sniper to use. We had two guys with Ghillies / Foliage suits and I admit that I rarely saw either of them, however I knew they were effective. This would be a great area for training or general Sniper play. Out of all these games, my only complaint is that there were not enough people! After this first game day we had 20 players, and this site can easily hold 50+! The game play was good, the terrain was unique and the staff made it a superb day, not even the rain could put a down on this superb site. As soon as I can drive properly, I will most likely be playing here as much as I can! (P.S Please ask if you have a question that I have not covered, or you want to know specific details!) Head Moderator Jedi_Master Posted July 6, 2015 Head Moderator Share Posted July 6, 2015 What facilities does the site offer? Toilets, food, fresh water? Is there a dry zone (indoors or covered) to get changed, leave kit, have briefings? Some of this may be on the website but I cannot access it possibly because it is still being designed.
