EDIT: I am aware of the dupe post, when I hit submit it seems it has put 2 posts on and I apologize for that however I cannot seem to remove the other thread.

Hello my name is Cropzy!

I am new to Airsofting, well not new as in brand new as I have skirmished a few times but I am still fairly new.

I understand the UKARA laws and gun handling and discipline too, I have been trained on 7.62 and .22 rifles when I was in the cadets and anyone who abuses RIF's is stupid and should learn the laws.

I get my UKARA in around 20 days from now and I am in the market for an electric AEG or AEP, I have been looking at this http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft/asg-scorpion-vz61.htm#.U0Pg4fldU1Q for my 1st weapon, avoid/buy? Any reccomendations?

I skirmish at a place called Halo Mill http://www.halomill.com/ which is in huddersfield, I have been 3 times and I plan to go much much more as it is local to me it is CQB so it is limited to 350 fps and semi auto.

I have also been looking at chest rigs and masks and gloves, I have these in mind.

I have boots and DPM's as I used to be in the cadets a few years ago.

Is there any tips you guys could share and anything you could recommend as i want to take this hobby seriously and get a good collection and eventually travel over the UK going to different arenas.

Anything would be grateful!

Cropzy.

if you get that mask I suggest smearing washing up liquid over the inside of the goggles and buff it off to aid fog reduction. Possibly wear a sweatband around your head too to absorb sweat to stop it getting in to the goggles and misting

I just read the beginners guide and I am thinking about changing my opinion on the mask and I might look for a EN166 rated one as it seems safer and much more logical.

I am going to look at a lot of viper stuff aswell as they seem a good brand to start at.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..... Viper stuff has only ever let me down! The sleeves on their shirts are for monkeys, the collars for giraffes and the zips on their vests are made of cheese

Hmm, what would you recommend then?

I just want an affordable rig with decent storage and affordable equipment which is good for starters and lasts.

I purchased one of those cheap skull masks http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft/zombie-skull-mask-airsoft-face-protection.htm%C2'> the plastic around the eye mesh shattered and hit me in the eye, im never skimping on face protection again im lucky my eye was unharmed.

I don't recommend the scorpion for first gun. The best first gun is an AEG. Get a cyma 028 or a jg g36c. These are very durable, full blown and cheap guns. If you do cqb probably the g36c is better because of the rails where you will be able to put red dot and tac light later on and it's shorter. If you will be going to woodland sites more then get the cyma AK. That one will never let you down.

Best beginner weapon is the G&G Combat Machine series hands down. Durable, Affordable, and perform extremely well for £140 and less.

Take a look here, this site is very good.

At halo mill (where I Skirmish) I always rent out the g36c as I much prefer it over the m4's. Due to cqb I would like something small and I have always liked skorpions however it seems that you guys say that it is not ideal, I would like a good weapon but I want a unique one, what about a h&k ump45? They have good reviews and look promising.

I have a JG Skorpion and I only started skirmishing it after I did a lipo conversion - not something I'd recommend doing if you're a beginner and it's your only gun in case something goes wrong. Don't get me wrong it's a great little gun, but I'd recommend something more practical.

As others have said: an M4 platform is an ideal starter due to how easy it is to upgrade/get parts for. I would recommend, however, asking locals at your site about their guns - especially if they're not carrying an M4. Most airsofters are very enthusiastic about bragging/talking about their weapon so will be able to advise you on something a little different. They may even be nice enough to let you have a go at shooting it. Doing this you may just find a gun that you really prefer over others.

Edit: Regarding Viper kit. It's cheap for a reason mate. Though their cheaper molle chest rigs are okay as a new starter, the fixed tactical vest hey do aren't the greatest in terms of quality.

I've never had any problems with any viper molle pouches I've brought, but I've had issues with a lot of their other products (namely vests, goggles, knee pads, etc.).

How about ex British Army gear, is cheap, it works and you can buy it off ebay/any surplus store.

I got all my old DPM gear from the Royal Navy when I left, but bought a DPM assault vest off ebay for around £20 and DPM under armour shirt for around the same, the assault vest will hold a shed load of mags and has enough spare pockets for spare battery, bag of BBs, speedloader etc.

Done some more research and highly interested in this http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-pistols/asg-mk23-socom-pistol.htm#.U0QXmvldWqs it has some good reviews and is fairly cheap, what do you guys think?

This is a good pistol for use at a CQB site. It is very cheap and not the most robust but it will get you kills and looks awesome. There was a whole thread devoted to MK23's recently.

Do you intend to only ever do CQB or are you thinking of trying other sites for variation? If you want to do mainly CQB you cannot go wrong with an MP5, the benefit of them is that they are compact and parts are easy to get. but if you want something different then they're not going to cut it.

Hmm just looking around for something that will get you noticed and found this

It's got the benefit of being an M4 for ease of maintenance but looks very unusual and would be perfect for CQB.

Other ideas: WW2 sub machine guns? Thompson, MP40 (Sten wouldn't work as it would need a mosfet to make it single shot)

AK47 with folding stock?

i saw a few of them on ebay today while i was picking out DPM kit. i dont know how big the accessories are for these weapons though so i wasnt sure if standard issue kit was suitable. i assume webbing is too bulky for skirmishes so a chest rig is the way to go?

I just wear a belt with 7 M4 mag pouches these days, G18c in my pocket, spare pistol mags in other trouser pockets, a baseball cap, glasses, boots, gloves and a shirt.... you don't really need much more than that, it is more a case of what you want rather than need!

Was looking at that thread. It's really really tempting.

I like the stubby m4's but im not sure yet, I love ak's. I would like a ak74u or short ak47 but they are bit hard to get hold of and might be a bit too pricey for me at the moment. As for ww2 guns the mp40 is my favourite weapon of all time, but it wouldnt be that ideal in a cqb arena.

Already got dpms, boots and a kevlar helmet. Just need webbing and a rig and other stuff.

Cheap AK you can't go far wrong with the G&G combat machine or any of the later version CYMA aks. I had one of the CM028s models and it was built like a tank. Only thing is you'll need to get a weaker spring installed as these easily clear 370 fps. Here's some links:

An MP40 would work well in CQB, it is short, has a folding stock and was basically designed for CQB. If it's your favourite gun of all time, I would suggest it would be silly not to consider it. The only downside would be lack of a torch and being stuck with just ironsights.

I would like rails on my 1st gun. I am going to get an mp40 in the future.

Is there anything that you could recommend that is cheap (not taccy), reliable and has good reviews to get me started. I would really appreaciate it.

Also what do you guys think of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Olive-Green-TACTICAL-VEST-Combat-Assault-Airsoft-Army-Molle-Attachment-Rig-Top-/181248867418?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&hash=item2a33463c5a is it good or can I get a better tac vest for the money? I am in the market for one and there are soo many to choose from.

If you're after that one in particular don't get it off eBay. Go to their website where it's cheaper:

Same thing, more expensive on eBay though.

Thanks will have a look.

About to pull the trigger on this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Paintball-Goggle-Proto-Switch-EL/dp/B0020R399A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396991640&sr=8-2&keywords=paintball+mask

You think it will hold up to 350 fps, it has good write ups and good reviews and it seems decent.

Should I get it?

that'll withstand anything an airsoft gun can throw at it, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the lens on that would withstand 1000fps

Just bought it from amazon, cant wait for it, thanks for the help!
