southernsoftie Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Guys, I've decided upon my new primary weapon and its got to be the 417D but cannot decide which one out of these two to go for. Really like the recoil shock with the TM with the added feeling of realism and sound but also like the fact that the umarex is officially licensed by H&K with the trade marks etc. I'm erring towards the VFC but am I going to be missing out by not having the recoil shock. The VFC is also a fair bit cheaper which is another consideration. Which would you go for??
Moose87 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 personally i would take the VFC, i already own one and i like it and im very jealous cos your buying the exact gun that i want!!!! damn you. what are the prices that you have looked at??
southernsoftie Posted July 3, 2013 Author Posted July 3, 2013 Thanks for your reply. Prices for he VFC are between £385-£400
Moose87 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 yer i would def get a VFC, the recoil is nice but the VFC quality is outstanding. dunno if you seen it but this explains all. little old but makes a point.
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 TM don't make a 417 yet,so the VFC is your only choice If your thinking of the 416,the TM is the better choice, recoil, bolt lock,Eg10000 motor and it's made the same way as the VFC,Aluminium Cast reciever,CNC Rails,etc...
firstname-lastname Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I owned and used a VFC 417D (recently swapped), and i currently own a VFC 416D The main points about the 417D are; + It looks amazing, and is really well put together, VFC have done an outstanding job with it. if all you want is a great looking gun, that will turn heads the 417D is for you. hop is great and easy to adjust. getting to the battery connector is as simple as can be, best gun i ever owned for this lots of rail space - as an AEG is not really anything to write home about, it has an average range, and average rate of fire and an average FPS output its heavy because its big the mags are proprietary and expensive So essentially the 417D appeals to someone who wants realism over performance and practicality. That is why the 416D is a better prospect, and out of the TM and VFC offerings I'd go for the TM one. in my experience TM guns are outstanding out of the box, and therefore a much better platform for upgrades, the VFC 416D isn't bad, but again its nothing to write home about. my £0.02p

Now I'm thinking the TM 416 might be the one to go for! Damn this is hard!
Supporters M_P Posted July 3, 2013 Supporters Posted July 3, 2013 Of the two I'd get the tm. The externals aren't quite as good as the vfc (but then not much is) but you get the bonus of the recoil, and the bolt lock which are both great additions. If you do go tm, make sure you get the lipo adapter though.
firstname-lastname Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I forgot to add, that the 417D can be turned into a very effective DMR, you can buy the 20" barrel kit; http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/product_detail1.php?item=VFC-HGD-HK417SR-BK01 then you'd need to spend about £250 - £300 on internal upgrades. What you'll have then is a great looking gun that has the performance to match its looks, and the ability to be both and effective AEG and a DMR but it just cost you the best part of £700. And that is the key point, most AEGs need to have a fair bit of money sunk into them before they'll do what you want. A point that is exacerbated when the starting platform is expensive.
Supporters jcheeseright Posted July 3, 2013 Supporters Posted July 3, 2013 I have a TM 416D and it's pretty special, the range is as expected outstanding and the construction is rock solid. As for the externals not being as good as the VFC, I'm dubious, mine certainly is pretty close to perfect externally with realistic trades and as close to real dimensions as you can get with an AEG.

Thanks, good to hear. I notice you've got he scar L as well. D you prefer the scar or 416 and is there any difference in the recoil and sound between the two when firing?
Supporters jcheeseright Posted July 3, 2013 Supporters Posted July 3, 2013 the SOPMOD batteries aren't really a problem unless you want them to be (or you want a massive capacity), they're only 1300Mah and because of the way the stock works there are a lot of unsoldered connections and so quite a bit of resistance. This leads to them going flat relatively quickly. I reckon from a fully charged battery you'll get approx 1500 shots in normal temperatures, slightly less if it's cold. They're also a bit of a bugger to charge and don't like being quick charged, a slow overnight trickle is much more effective!

The tm isn't bad externally, and they're getting very good. But their AR's still aren't as solid or nice to hold as a g&p or vfc. Though of course that's my opinion. The lipo adapter is available at fire support, the normal.batteries are okay but these days you may as well use lipos, better in almost every way, and easily done now with the adapter.
Baz JJ Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 How does the G+G T4-18 range which is the HK 416 compare ? The TM looks a nice gun but is a lot more money.
Supporters M_P Posted July 4, 2013 Supporters Posted July 4, 2013 Probably close, but the g&g has incorrect trades unlike the tm, and g&g's externals aren't quote up to scratch IMO.
Baz JJ Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Doing a bit more research. The TM has a really nice sound to it. The VFC didn't do so well on some range accuracy tests. Who sells the TM in the UK. Nobidy seems to hold stock.
Supporters M_P Posted July 4, 2013 Supporters Posted July 4, 2013 LWA, fire-support, probably zero one too. combat south had some, may still do.
