adamasrc
What would you lot consider the worst or just most common mistakes/things new players make? Or how would you spot a new player in a crowd of experienced players? Could be to do with loadouts or just gameplay This might be a laugh
kungfumonkey
the best mistake i have seen a newb make is and here goes the action story lol me and said newb are flanking in a game of pow's going for the reset the enemy's score count when i spot an enemy sniper so i drop down behind cover and let the newb know why. he then decides im being nice and letting him get this kill so pops his head up and sends a cpl the snipers way but rather than duck back down he just looks puzzeled as to why he didnt hear "HIT" then before he knows quite literately what has hit hit he takes one to the forhead and lets out an rather girlie scream now off he trods to respawn i lay low for a few mins till said sniper has plodded off sumwhere ..... then on the lunch break he asks me why didnt the sniper call hit cuz he had him lined up perfect and declares he must have cheated. to which i explain that we were a good 10mtrs past are effective range but still well inside his and i wasnt letting him get a kill i just assumed he wld basically copy what i was doing and lay low
Supporters Monty Posted October 1, 2012 Supporters Share Posted October 1, 2012 I tried shooting someone 30 feet away from me, both of us spent a good 20 seconds shooting each other, but soon realising our hop ups were on full.
Gecko
There's the classic strike a pyro and throw it trick only to have it bounce off a nearby tree and fly back towards you. Lots of running away and screaming ensues! (I have to confess I have done this myself at least once). Remembed another good one from long time ago now. We had a new guy on our team who must have only been about 14/15 at the time. Mid game as our team are moving on an objective he jumps out from cover, shouting "COVERING FIRE", and then proceeds to shoot 2 of his own team in their backs. I don't think he quite grasped the concept of covering fire...or perhaps he mispoke and meant to shout "FRIENDLY FIRE!"

I've done the one where you take the lid off, drop the lid by accident, move cover and go to light the pyro.. only to realise you need the lid to light it
Alexb111
Haha, from paintball a favourite memory of mine: Diversion attack with around 3/4 of our group holding off the enemy force from the objective (fort style defence) while the 4 of us sneaked around behind them. Plan was to pick them off and at least weaken their team enough to give the rest of our force a very good chance of winning or lasting the time limit. Anyway new guy thinks he's going to go rambo and kill everyone and so instead of waiting for us all to line up shots decides to spray about 50 rounds everywhere. Mass chaos, everyone shoots everywhere with results as follows: 2 enemy kills since they all hit the floor pretty sharpish. 1 friendly kill as his spray fire went so high it landed into our defensive lines. All 4 of our sneak attack wiped out since we were caught in the open. Lest say he wasn't the most popular person at lunchtime.

Supporters Ian_Gere Posted October 1, 2012 Supporters Share Posted October 1, 2012 Here's another one to do with pyros: I tried to strike a smoke bomb, but the tab wouldn't set the fuse off and ended up too knackered to use... so... I got my lighter out and, holding the smoke bomb in my left hand angled down toward my right, proceeded to apply the flame to the upside down fuse... Did it light? Most certainly it did... and fcuking blasted a load of burning sparks down onto my right thumb, burning right through my armoured glove and cooking all the skin around my nail! Trying to be a hard man, I just ignored it and threw the pyro, surprisingly enough getting it to land pretty much where I intended, but someone picked it up and lobbed it right back (something which isn't allowed @Skirmish anymore)! The pain got really bad though, so I ended up wrapping LX tape around it so tight that it went sort of numb... What a cock!
Supporters TPI Posted October 1, 2012 Supporters Share Posted October 1, 2012 lol i Picked up my own smoke that fell short of it's intended spot and i couldn't see for sh*t scrambling around with incoming fire i grabbed the hot end for it to burn through the glove and me to go aw fuckit and just run into the building with it... i have never been a member of the throwing something someplace and it coming back to haunt me but i have had my Brother through a Grenade i think through the entire second story from the stairs and hit me in the chest to blow up at my feet, Cheer's Rabbit. i have also slipped and thinking i set a site claymore off just bombed it into a full room of enemy's just waiting for some one to come through that doorway basically i should have just hung around the claymore didn't even get turned on... i have crawled under a fallen tree and my plate carrier got hung up so a Reg at the site had to try unhook me while we were under fire (Took 5 Min's with the constant Get down!) tank god no one threw a grenade at my position sheesh. i had a noob Protecting me because my goggle's were fogged so bad i couldn't see a thing and the team's VIP he for got to mention the entire team was hit by a surprise ambush i only had a pistol Dammit and i can't even see past the front sight! he had a G36 and a perfectly clear View... Gecko
Speaking of smoke grenades..,A couple of months ago at skirmish I was using one of their smokes for the first time and hadnt really thought about the positioning of the grenade and my head before striking. Needless to say, I lit the smoke and got a face full of acrid smoke. After throwing it I had to sit in the trenches for a couple of minutes coughing and spluttering as I felt like I had just ruined my lungs.
Supporters Airsoft-Ed Posted October 2, 2012 Supporters Share Posted October 2, 2012 I think everyone must've had their fair share of grenade fails. I haven't bought any pyros for literally years because I'm so worried of doing more harm than good haha. The amount of times I could've used one to just throw around a corner or through a door though... Might start getting them again. I'm often surprised by "noobs" not because I expect them to be crap at the game and they're not, I don't judge people on things like that. But because some of them often look better equipped than me with regard to camo, boots, eye pro, chest rig etc etc, but they're using a hire gun. I've been talking to them before assuming they know what I'm on about, only for them to turn around and admit they're completely new to all of it and have no idea what I'm on about lol. It happened on Saturday at least once, I even caught the chat on video if it ever uploads to YouTube, but this guy had a full set of multicam type camo so I just assumed he'd been doing it a while. I wore hiking trousers and long sleeve shirts from Decathalon right up until about May this year, I'm amazed by the number of people who opt for getting their kit sorted out before their gun. jaeproductions
My mate (who's even newbier to airsofting than me at the moment) and I were at Halo Mill and there were only eight people there including us three; we actually only had a ten minute skirmish before they left. One of their guys had a grenade so my dad got a grenade for free to During the game we were in this quite tight, long corridor and there was a very open room just next door and they chucked their pyro in. The guy (forgotten his name) had told us that in CQB you're basically supposed to take the it, after all, it costs the person £2.50. Anyway so my mate and I were moving up when this flew in and I was like "GRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDEEE!" and f*cking ran down the corridor, he jumped over the grenade and followed me. So after that experience were didn't want another encounter with one. My dad didn't use his grenade and when we were having a skirmish between ourselves (us versus him because he's surprisingly stealthy for an old fat bloke) He remembered it and tried to chuck it into a room we were in but he hit his arm on the plywood wall so it travelled about ten centimetres. Needless to say he was kinda dissapointed and ran away like 'Shhiiittt' It's funny because he's actually not very good /\ Sorry for such a long introduction
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted October 11, 2012 Supporters Share Posted October 11, 2012 Reminds me of one I did at The Stan - I tried to throw a smoke bomb the entire length of a long office and, to do so, I thought it'd be easiest to bounce it off the ceiling under-arm rather than come right out of cover and try for a precise over-arm throw... It hit the ceiling just fine... But stuck in a partly wrecked bit about 10' from our position and set the surrounding crap on fire! Doh!
Hubert
First time I ever used a smoke. I forgot several things: 1)I was throwing it up a hill 2)I was throwing it into the wind 3)There were trees in the general area 4)I have such terrible throwing skill you'd think I was deliberately throwing like that. Result? Well, the enemy team couldn't see us anymore, so it sort of worked... Also - this one isn't me, but it made me laugh so much at the time I felt it deserved mentioning. Taking apart your weapon if you don't know what you're doing. Especially if you decide to do it in the field. Yup, one of my mates, on deciding that his M16 wasn't performing terribly well, decided to field strip it. In the middle of a wood. Yes, he did lose several key parts...
