  1. Sorry to hi-jack but while on the topic of FB groups. Does anyone know of any for Essex Kent and London? Cheers M
  2. Im on the countdown now 10 more days then my two months are up and I can stop renting and buy my RIF. Not sure I'll make it without cracking up. Still looking to get a G&G 416 (T4-18) but the WE Scar keeps flirting with me. Then there's the side arm. Do I go pistol, short shotgun on machine pistol. I've been brooding over this for too long it seems. I'm far too impulsive so I'm happy the law has made me have to wait so I know I want to do this long term.
  3. That's in my top 3 all time war films with the longest day and platoon.
  4. Hoping to play the mall in the future myself.
  5. How would you expect to communicate with a gum shield in your mouth?
  6. I do the same but tie it like a shemag over a cap. It covers the ears, nose and mouth then. Has worked well on a scorchingly hot day as well as in heavy rain and thunderstorms.
  7. I've only played a couple but above all have fun.
  8. I'm in the same position. I'm looking to get a T4-18 once I qualify but got my head turned by an HE scar this weekend and can purchase now and keep on site until registered. I think I would rather pay more for something I will be happy with long term though. It's a good £30 rental each time I play but only have to play once more between now and the start of October. Decisions decisions indeed!
  9. Don't worry we're not all like that. But can you imagine having to share a room with people like that for a living? I can remember in basic, our training corporals trying to get us to look down on civvies as a lower class of human being. Wherever you go in the world there will always be people who think they are a step above and like to do people down but there was no need for that. If those low lives who made those comments are actually serving (which I doubt is the case), they in particular DO NOT deserve our respect at all and I am ashamed they can been seen a representative of me and my former colleagues dead and alive by some people or even themselves.
  10. Anybody going this weekend. I'm going on my own and don't want to die alone in the woods? Also renting the AK this time after my previous problems with the M4.
  11. Surplus DPM chest rig. Three double pouches and two utility pouches good condition. 99p plus £2.50 postage on EBay!! Bargain.
  12. Iirc when I was in the signals, was just after the soldier 95 clothing was brought in. Up until then the olive green light weight trousers were your normal say to day work wear. And you would change your top according to the season e.g. shirt sleave order in the summer or jumper or jacket and norgie in the winter. The DPM we had was quite thick and heavy and we would only really wear it on exercise or guard duty. Also a point of note was when it was brand new it was shiny as it had a anti infa red film on it that was of no use as it washed out on the first wash. When the 95 kit came out it was a complete revamp and for the time and seemed really modern as we were no longer wearing the boots introduced in the 50's that had a wooden block in the heal to sound nice when marching. They changed the DPM as well at that time and brought in the lightweight version and we got issued shirts that were DPM as well as our existing olive ones. So we would still wear the olive trousers for some tasks such as PT or drill and change to DPM for others. The soldier 95 kit moved the insignia from the epalete on the shoulder and arms to the middle of the chest so it was harder for the enemy to see. It also made it harder for us to see as they would bo**ock us for not saluting officers or saluting NCO's. This was from lessons learned in the former Yugoslavia. The new MTP was introduced around 05 to counter the problems they were having in Helmand Province. The DPM was too dark for the open areas in the desert and the Desert DPM was too bright for the jungle / Tropical areas around the Helmand River. I like MTP. It is a much brighter kit and not as gloomy as DPM and does look a lot better, but DPM is the perfect base for camo in northern Europe. With some well placed foliage you can make yourself almost invisible if you want to.
  13. That's a shame as that is a good looking gun.
  14. What are people's views on the quality of Bolt. I have seen a Bolt SR47 an was wondering if anyone had any experience of their products in relation to the build and performance? Thanks Frosty
  15. I just thought I would, as a first timer put down my views of my very first skirmish. Sorry if it's not in the right area. I went along to the boot camp day at Skirmish Billericay. I had pre-booked a specked up M4 for myself which was supposed to be better than the standard M4 they rent out. The only real difference externally was the collapsible stock, fore grip and external battery that blocked the view down the iron sights. The insides were apparently upgraded as well but considering I can compare to anything else Im not a great judge. In reality the weapon was a pain in the a**e as I had to keep getting it fixed as it wasnt firing consistently and would only fire on in six on full auto. I also rented some webbing and an extra high cap magazine. The mags were ok and seemed up to the job and the webbing once loosened was ok but had seen a lot of use as you would expect from a rental set. There was over 100 people on the day and was a real mixed bunch and most of those I spoke to were very friendly there were two incidents during the day that made me think that some were taking it all a little too seriously and not taking into account that is was just a boot camp and not the final battle in Platoon. But considering the amount of testosterone and adrenaline I cant complain. The site itself was really good with five or six different areas but we only use 4 on the day. After a quick 5 min game of domination for the new people to get a feel for everything we set about a game of capture the flag with about 50 a side. About 15 mins in the cloud cover came over and it was almost dark, and the heavens opened and former hurricane Bertha said hello after about 10 mins of the deluge the marshals blew the whistle and sent us all back to the safe zone to wait it out. 45 mins later we were back out and the red team went on to win the game. I took a hit directly to the eye and was very thankful for my glasses and also took a hit directly to the plums (that one hurt). After lunch we had a game where the teams took turns to attack of defend the 4 sites we used and pick up TNT then plant them on the 3 bridges. The differences in the teams was quite obvious and unbalanced as the red team won all but one game all day where the reds would attack and gain an objective quite quickly, the blues would hold back a little more and this made the difference. We were then given two more shot games at the end of the day to make up for the time we lost in the morning. The downsides of the day for me were, that the gun I rented was pants and was a real let down in the CQB Im not that up on the makes but it would put me off buying and ICS rif, the marshals were not easy to see and some were ducking down and drawing fire. The seating area needs more cover from the elements. Apart from those I got soaked to the skin, I ache all over and have a giant red lump on my jaw that looks like a big red spot, but I dont care, I had fun and am now hooked. What a great day out, I will definitely be going again!
  16. Well I had my initiation for playing today as well as playing in the rain. It was sooo heavey and so dark it was like playing at night. So much so they had to call a halt to the game and we sat in the safe zone for 45 mins. Good fun and met some great people only problem was the dodgy rental gun and 1 or 2 idiots. Great fun though.
  17. Welcome. You've found a really helpful group here. Ask 1 question and get 20 helpful replies!! Can't ask for more.
  18. Snow would be cool. I've got enough snowboarding gear that I could get away with it. I even have a pair of white snowboard trousers. I saw some arctic ponchos on eBay as well. My imagination is running away now.
  19. Hi all cheers for the advice and info. It's really nice to get such a strong response. I don't have a weapon yet so rental co will take the brunt of the cleaning. I will def pop to the army and navy in Southend for a poncho tomorrow. I'll also take a spare jacket for lunch time as well. If anyone else has and advice. Please keep it coming. It's very welcome. Thanks again everyone. Frosty
  20. Evening All So this weekend I'm going to my first event at Skirmish in Billericay. But according to the focast it's going to be tipping it down (it will probably be 30 degrees). I'm still going as I'm taking my nephew and have paid for the rentals. But I was wondering what's people's opinion on playing in the rain, is it all good fun or to much like hard work? Cheers Frosty
  21. Cheers I will have a look.
  22. Hi All Sorry if this is in the wrong area. It's because I'm getting old and rebellious. I was talking to someone the other day about different place to play and was told about an old school in Hertfordshire that was by all accounts really good. Can anyone let me know the name of it? Happy Tuesday! Mark
