The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Ian_Gere replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
When I was a student in Liverpool a bunch of us used to club together to buy bottled water in bulk - because the tap water tasted like it had been through one too many scouser prior to arriving through our taps. -
Or a tactical Vz58...?

i don't know what happen with my m4 cbq-s
Ian_Gere replied to emigrantas02's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
We need more information to diagnose what the exact problem is, emigrantas. Do you get absolutely no response when you pull the trigger, or does the motor click, or vibrate at all? How do you know that the battery is fully charged? Is it possible that it has lost all charge? Has any part of the gun felt very warm at all? Has there been any burning smells coming from the gun? Have you tired firing both semi-auto and full-auto? -
How to get into airsoft in the UK?
Ian_Gere replied to TacticalPotato1's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, right. -
My objection to fb is that you can't easily find information which you have previously read, unless somebody makes it into a file and saves it to the group's archive. But what to save? Who do you allow access to save/change files? What is just chit chat often contains a gem of info, where to get some item, how something works, reference to a review, etc. and on a forum all you need to remember is the subject of the thread, even if you cannot remember the thread title, a search will usually produce it, and you have the info at your fingertips again. I cant escape fb entirely, because so many people use it, but as has been said, it's best only for people and events. I suspect that airsoft in the UK is much less about teams too, less organised than in the states. I think more than half of UK players do not belong to a team and never have, probably never will, but then i also think that serving/ex military are also in the minority. Having said that, there are plenty of teams comprised of non-military players. As it happens, I'm one of those weirdos who not only dislike social media intensely, I also would like to see more organisation amongst players - not all of them mind you because, although i do enjoy a challenge, i also enjoy pwning the opposition as if i was the hero of a film!

CCW I'm still feeling a bit rough now I'm home so it'll be 2moz before I'm much use to man or beast. I'll do it when i get back from the quack... always plenty of time sitting around doing fuck all in the waiting room, so i'll think about how best to draw it lol!

How to get into airsoft in the UK?

^^Actually no, it was clean and well looked after - it was me that was sweating like a rapist and in terrible condition! -
A lot of the performance depends on how tight the hole through which the BB goes is. That one I linked to has 3 foam rings already, with a spring which fits the whole length of the inside and the foam rings are jammed in place against the turns of the spring. If you fill the entire length of the suppressor with foam, the air which emerges from the inner barrel will have less room to expand into than in the 3 foam ring design, which means that the pressure wave will emerge from the suppressor muzzle much less altered. That retailer was fine to buy from for me - but that single suppressor purchase is the only business i've done with them. BTW it also comes in black. I'm feeling a bit unwell right now and i have to get on a train in a couple of hours, so I can't be arsed to draw you a diagram, but later tonight or tomorrow i will.

Suppressors for airsoft is a complex subject, but if you are willing to trust me (as a professional sound engineer), your best bet is not to fill the tube with foam, but rather to create expansion chambers inside your suppressor. There is also a legal issue which is that in the UK it is illegal to create something which is intended to reduce the report of a firearm. For our purposes then, whatever you use internally must fail the first time a real bullet was fired through it. If you don't want to go all sound nerd on it and build your own internals, the best way forward is a suppressor which has just 3 foam rings inside, so long as they are prevented from moving down the inside of the tube - this is surprisingly effective. The way to make it better is to remove the spring which holds the foam in place and create baffles with holes as tight as possible, which still allow the BB to pass through (bearing in mind that the BB has a tendency to rise as soon as it is free of the inner barrel). The baffles must not slip inside, but if they are made from something which is flexible, that flex is a means of absorbing a bit more sound energy than something stiff would. Something to take note of however is that most of the noise AEG's or BASR's make is radiated directly out through the sides of the receiver, not down the barrel. I'm not sure if this is also the case for GBB's and GBBR's, but i suspect that the 'bolt' does make more noise than the pressure wave from the muzzle.

^^Yeah, reinventing the wheel is just a waste of your time and effort. Even if you don't think our small corner of the net is for you, there are plenty of other sites and fb pages which do exactly what you intend already - your comments will get far more exposure on an established page / in an established community than they will on your own pages, unless of course there is some reason why your pages will draw more traffic than we do - porn for eg

How to get into airsoft in the UK?
Ian_Gere replied to TacticalPotato1's topic in General Discussion
Nobody I knew at the time was even vaguely interested - in fact most of 'em still think airsoft is one of the weirder things about me. I found my local site's webby and spoke to a few people on their forum to get an idea of what it was all about - still didn't have a clue really but went anyway, on my own, on the bus and taxi (it cost a fortune to get there and back on a Sunday, but I was dying to check it out). I got talking to a few people about tactics, guns and gear and had a great time, even though the paintball mask which was part of the hire package was a 'kin 'mare for fogging - before lunch i was just a stumbling target: i could barely see anyone camouflaged in bushes and couldn't tell where i was getting hit from most of the time. But i listened to what people were telling me and by mid afternoon i was managing to hit people, just... I ordered mesh goggles as soon as i got home and they arrived before the next time I could get to a skirmish again - started to get friendly with a few people and those are now my best airsoft mates -

Are you going to the Halloween Ball? I'm not fit this year, but it is way better than ace, ffs! -
Crisps = no way! Too much bulk for not much nutrition and way too much salt. MRE's are convenient and pretty tasty, plus you have the added benefit of knowing that some science bods have taken them apart molecule by molecule to be assured that they really do provide good nutrition. I have a big tin of freeze dried cooked rice too, of which I can add a handful to anything for a bit of extra carbs, but tbh even after full on cooking, let alone just rehydrating with hot water a la the destructions, it's not exactly 'rice' as we know it, more like bendy breakfast cereal - i put portions into small ziploc baggies leaving enough space for hot water & the small amount of expansion, with herbs, salt and pepper so, despite the texture, it at least tastes nice! Another option is to take one or more snot poodles out of their cups, cut the main block of noodle into a few pieces, and stow each potful in a separate baggy - it makes them less bulky to carry. Obviously there's next to nothing of long term nutritional value in them, but they're good for carbs and fill a hole.

To boil 1 Crusader cup I break the tablet into quarters but only use 3 of them - stick the last one back in the box for next time. It's all about getting the cup well stuffed into the adapter so it's close to the flames and, as Cav says, shielding from the wind. One of those clear plastic lids needed a bit of dremmeling to make it fit my cup, but it's an excellent addition - it's clear so you can see when the liquid is about to boil over and very lightweight, but strong enough to stuff down the side in a 58 pattern canteen pouch along with the cup and a canteen and then get rolled on by a fat bastard without even cracking.
-
You're not using it right, James. With a lid on it you can boil a Crusader cup full with less than 1 block!
-
The Crusader aluminium cups are excellent - with 1 of those you don't actually need additional mess tins, if weight and bulk will be an issue while travelling to the site. Only thing to remember is that, although there are plastics which can withstand high temperatures and it would make sense that the plastic rim added to an aluminium cup to prevent you burning your lips while drinking from it should be made from such plastic, especially when it is likely that the cup will be used as a cooking vessal, it is in fact common or garden plastic and melts. It's not much of a bother to take it off for cooking and replace it for drinking however. If an FRH fails you can use one of those Crusader cups to heat water around an MRE also. Something I've noticed about surplus FRH's supplied with MRE's is that the quality varies significantly, but also you can think that it is not working - like be 100% certain that you have the right amount of water in it and 15mins later bugger all has happened... you extract the MRE and start making alternative arrangements or just eating it cold and, lo and behold, the FRH suddenly starts steaming away like a good'n!

Not difficult to take the guts out of a bog standard 32mm/40mm tube red dot and fit them into the space vacated by the expensive bits of the sight you're after. I realise that getting hold of one may not be the simplest operation for your mate. Perhaps I should have said "liberate with extreme prejudice" - just depends how good a mate he is vs how penny pinching/fascist/struggling his employers are.

Turns out that PayPal didn't put the transaction through when I ordered the PPS refillable CO2 cartridge above, which is cool because khmountain.com have them cheaper. I also ordered a portable CO2 charger powered by 12g CO2 bulbs to allow me to mix gasses in the PPS cartridge 41.98USD for the lot posted. -

The best stuff to use is made for latex fetish gear - clean and shine solution. Soap isn't good for latex IIRC - i think it makes it perish faster. I have a 1/2L bottle of the kinky shit which I'm probably not going to get through any time soon, so I could do you a small amount in an atomiser for say £2.50 posted in with the RD-54 package. I use a J cloth to apply it and wipe any dirt it liberates from the mask off and another clean one to apply some more and polish it. -
It's also a D-Boys... not known for good quality internals, so the fact that you like tinkering, Rob, is probably a good thing, because if I were you i'd be expecting it to give up the ghost sooner rather than later. Having said that, you get the odd one of any make which turns out to be a very fortunate combination of tolerances and lasts forever.

I've got a C8 also and would recommend it*, but i've since stopped using it in favour of an Ultrafire zoomable XM-L T6 torch powered by 2 x 18650 batteries like this - they are very bright, you can choose how much penumbra you want around the spot, and the convex plastic lens is BB proof. A while back I ordered one of these pressure pads for it, but it didn't turn up so I cannot swear 100% that they work with this model of torch, but there are only so many styles of end cap push button switch and this looks like it's the right size and female thread. I've had a refund and ordered another so fingers crossed they'll both eventually turn up I've found that, by mounting it correctly in relation to a vertical foregrip, I can press the end cap button with my thumb so the mouse tail pad is not really needed - but I want to try one anyway for more options, especially mounting it further back to reduce the front heavy effect. Tip: if you bid for torches from China on ebay.com instead of ebay.co.uk they usually go a little bit cheaper (edit to add: and mounts too). *The only real issue with them is that the glass is probably not BB proof - I've used a couple of layers of blisterpack plastic as a shield over the bezel, which has got shot through, but in doing so has protected the glass. The way forward is a replacement for the glass made from 3M protective goggles (£3-5), which I intended to implement, but since then I've repurposed the goggles I had to replace the lenses in my PBF gas mask - hey ho, i'll get some more eventually and make a decent shield for my EoTech replica while i'm at it.
