My apologies if it seemed that I implied you were, that wasn't my intention, just speaking generally to all the lurkers. That's writing on forums for you. You're quite correct, hipsters are what they are, unfortunately. And they're especially prevalent on the internet.

Oh I dunno, it did take a while to get popular in airsoft, and only once it got really popular did the implication that it was of low quality/inferior and therefore (apparently) homosexual become the in-thing to post all over the place. I only started in 06 and I'm fairly sure PTS barely existed at that point.

Pretty amazed little gem of a phrase is still doing the rounds. Hold up..... Doctor Who just rocked up in his tardis let me ask him about it..... yep, he said it's all the rage in 2009.

Doesn't surprise me, they rip off the MoD at every turn. Same as every big company that contracts for the government really, it's all a shambles. I'll leave it for another thread rather than gun pictures though to save going too off-topic.

Well, they were born out of Mauser in Germany. I believe there was (might still be) a H&K UK division setup that was responsible for various things related with the L85A2, but yeah 'we' owned H&K for a bit, but it was sold back in 02 during a restructure within BAe (bad move). There's no Royal Ordnance any more, all just became BAe long ago.

TM SOCOM, wouldn't recommend the URX for it yet since I've not been able to test for fitment of a battery. Had issues with the TM 14.5" barrels sitting canted to the right for some reason, spent a long time swapping bits between all 3 SOCOM uppers but couldn't nail down the issue in my limited time frame. The cant is hidden in the picture but I had to swap back to the 12" barrel/10" Troy rail in the end, hopefully I'll be able to go back home and try again in a week or two. Miight be able to start working on the LM4 soon, but I've only just finished downgrading and testing to get the nozzle setup for skirmish use.

The 'What have you just bought' Thread

Well an awful lot of it is just patches and stickers in fairness. The cap, the black hoodie and the MC pouch were sent over by MSM for reviewing which is lucky because I can only just barely justify spending the money I do on kit for the loadouts I plan, let alone superfluous luxuries. Then again, is anything other than some old clothes, eye-pro snaffled from stores and a cheap AEG really a necessity for airsoft? Be a very small hobby if we only ever used the real basics. But yeah, not had anything show up for some time then 5 packages all got delivered between Tuesday and Friday. Which is nice in the long run I suppose. Edit, here's the Kryptek out of the packaging: -

Good stuff. Bit of advice for future purchases anyway. You'll have a great big locker full of stuff before you know it, don't worry.

Looks neat and concise, invested in top quality eye pro, can't go wrong really. The majority of tac gear has (historically at least) been designed for pretty huge blokes, I had the same issue for a long time when I started out. I'd advise avoiding any sort of a vest (i.e. something that doesn't hold plates and isn't a chest rig) because the original designs of those tend to stem from gear that's meant to be worn over the top of armour. Chest rigs are better for tightening down, flecktarn.co.uk sell a couple of very high quality options by BULLE which are also very affordable. Possibly not in black, but tan and black looks pretty ballin'

Don't get anything new for months, then three packages turn up within the space of 20 minutes. -Glock 17rnd mag + Lancer Systems L5 30rnd translucent mag -G-Code SOC Rig for Government 1911s with standard frame cowling -ESC Custom TM MEU fitted with HurricanE Kimber Desert Warrior kit -
Does it have any metal hooks on the exterior? Or a big flap buttoned up on the back? Sniper and Para smocks are pretty common around here. I've never seen or heard of anyone here dying their jackets a darker colour, unless it was SFSG since they hang out here a lot. Wouldn't be for guard duty, uniform when on guard has to be neat and by-the-book. Wouldn't be for general day-to-day wear around camp either, you wouldn't get away with wearing dyed stuff. Must've been used for night ops back in the days before MTP/PCS. I'd imagine either an instructor or trainee in sniper training school, they do loads of sneaking about in the woods at night trying to not get caught/catch people.

Remind me never to annoy you then. I'm at Honington, explosive storage.

I was going to say that sounds damn heavy, but with the mags in that's pretty decent really, specially with heavy GBB pistol mags. Not like a few BBs will add many ounces after all. Anyway, people often ask what I do so I thought I'd snap my everyday work 'loadout' as it were while I had my stuff in my room. As you can see, I'm not very tactical in my job; but hey folks need ammo so someone's gotta sort it out.

Blimey, 12lbs with empty mags or just no mags at all?

Apart from the fact he appears to have a very very cold noggin, one of the better starter loadouts I've seen. By quite a margin actually, going with solid colours worked well.

I've seen a few things around, but Kryptek are competing in the US Army's trial for a UCP replacement, so they've not really put any focus on production for the private purchasing market. If you look up their website I believe they have a list of distributors and sell a few things directly.

'Because it's cool' is a specific reason. Doubly so in airsoft.

New stuff this week - 3 x Extended pistol TACOs from my buddy Ed at Flimmuur Tactical. He's actually managed to beat HSGI on the quality of construction, which is no mean feat. Compared to the original pistol TACO. Also, Grey Ghost Gear Stealth Operator Pack in Kryptek Highlander. Will be my new EDC bag for work.

Well, I'm fairly familiar with the controls & overall ergonomics/balance for starters. I think that in terms of features like the safety/selector, the optics mounting, trigger setup etc it's the best bullpup available in airsoft for my needs, and I think bullpups in general are great. However, the MoD's choice of foregrip and rail covers are inferior when it comes to my personal desires when on the skirmish field, and I really don't like the aesthetics of the grip-pod/ladder covers combo myself. I've grown accustomed to it, but if I had the choice when I deployed I wouldn't use the issued 20mm accessories. The same as I personally wouldn't use the issue MOLLE pouches/uniform/holster/helmet/PC....

If you were sick of seeing the damn things every single day, would you exactly copy the real setup?

-FrogLube CLP oil and paste (stuff is awesome, smells just like dentist mouthwash) -Microfiber cloth -Various sized collet heads for the dremel to accept my annoyingly-just-too-thin diamond tipped grinding bits -Medium strength blue loctite -Tungsten carbide dremel bit -Various extra sized allen head screwdrivers Can't tell that I'm working on a GBBr at all.
