What was your first ever airsoft weapon?

Completely swapping the receivers over to 762? Sounds like quite a job. -

Is it damp under that rock?? PTS dropped the 'Magpul' part officially well over a year ago now, probably more like 2 or more, hasn't been any production of Magpul replicas for a long time but they've carried on making airsoft stuff this entire time and aren't showing any signs of stopping. They've been doing a lot of muzzle devices for a while now, there was the Mega Arms LM4 and recently the EPM to replace the PMAG line. They've shown prototypes of a pistol grip and a stock that are coming in the same aesthetic vein as the EPM to replace the Magpul replicas, as well as EPMs for other platforms (and all in much better plastic than most airsoft stuff and indeed some RS stuff). -

They don't do the EMAGs any more, they're called EPMs (enhanced polymer magazines) now. Basically a subtle external change to get around the licensing issue. I've not seen any reviews yet but if the internals are similar/the same as the PTS Magpul mags they'll probably be the most resilient out there. However you can get a bunch of MAG stuff for a lot less money and they do replicate a firearms magazine that actually exists so I'd say the EPM is more for the CQB/trigger-averse player. Personally I only carry 2-3 mid or low caps on me at any one time so getting a loadout of them wouldn't be prohibitively expensive, but everyone's got their preferences of course. -
Was just about to echo the above, the extra ~50 FPS you might have over AEGs will likely make so little range difference it's not worth. 'Play style' in game is whatever you make it really, a marksman would (generally) have a higher rate of fire but also have to get closer to the action and move around more. Doubtful the A&K gearbox would fit their spring gun tbh. Real Sword make a Dragunov though which is often reported to be one of the longest ranging, most accurate semi-auto AEGs in existence.

Hoodies always seem to be the rental/newbie jacket of choice but I've never gone for one myself. I wear a UBACS even in December. the amount of heat and sweat you generate in airsoft is right up there with any sport one might name and it's kept in far more than most sports because of things like vests, slings and belts you've got on you; IMHO it's generally best to have a good level of coverage but using the coolest/lightest materials possible (particularly in the summer). If you've got a mask and hat on then it's only the neck and lower back area of the head left exposed and heat hits will sting a little bit but not as bad as a finger. Get yourself some sort of a gaiter/headover and that'll cover the neck area, 0241 Tactical make some really nice looking ones.

They came in to stock about a week or so ago, bought one soon as the word spread. Think all sold right out again fairly soon after. -

Good old rash, impulse purchases. Where would the airsoft business be without them? -

Yes to the second, no on the first. In gas guns, as you increase BB weight your muzzle velocity goes down but muzzle energy actually creeps up and despite the urban myth it's not the velocity that really matters the most. Sites always set their FPS levels "when chrono'd with a 0.2g BB" for that very reason, they're actually checking your muzzle energy but nobody ever phrases it that way. Energy = Mass x Velocity squared, and all that jazz. Could you elaborate? I've never ever heard of a magazine that was incapable of holding a certain weight of BB. Actual ammunition can feature numerous weights of bullet, but the dimensions of the round (and therefore the capacity of the relevant magazine) stay exactly the same, that applies to airsoft too. -
It's a tad hard to suggest something without knowing your budget. For me personally some high quality, full seal eye pro with a lower face mask of some description is the minimum (particularly for CQB). Any less and you're risking teeth shot out and ricochets to the eye, very small chances yes but that's all down to your personal choice of course. I started off with a paintball mask which worked just fine and obviously gave buckets of protection but is probably a bit OTT for airsoft. Used ESS ballistic shades for some years in woodland which was lovely and comfortable but in retrospect I wouldn't do again because there was (comparatively) lots of room for a ricochet to get in behind them and they got knocked off my face a couple of times even with proper adjustment and the head band attached. A common setup these days is a combination of goggles (be it lenses or mesh) and a lower half mesh mask. I'd specifically recommend avoiding any sort of non-sealing eye pro with a mesh mask because there's more than a couple of softers out there who've taken some really nasty eye hits as a result of a BB bouncing up off the solid edge of the mesh and inside of their eye pro; taking in to account that a lot of the time no matter how tightly you adjust any sort of kit on your person when you run and jump around enough it will move about. Realistically most people try a dozen different combinations over the years and it's trial and error before they find the best setup. At this point I'm sure I've got at least 8 different sets of goggles/glasses dotted around my gear and more than a couple of lower-face pro items sitting around, just from experimenting. The best setup I've found (for me, everyone's different) is some ESS goggles with the foam around the edges removed and the plastic lower half from your average rental mask zip-tied underneath.

It is. Should say something along those lines on the label I think. -

I suppose the indicator will be the location of the place you bought them from. Wouldn't personally recommend anyone trust their eyes to knock-offs (or even potential knock-offs), but obviously that's not my decision to make for anyone else, just putting it out there for the lurkers. -
TM SOCOM No 2/3m. Used to be all Olive but with the 10.5" barrel it's the best of the lot for CQB so I went with the FG to (sort of) go with grey gear.

As you say, the grading system must've changed. 7-8 years back when I was looking at surplus kit before I joined up I recall all the sites listed stuff as New -> Grade 1 -> Grade 2. You learn something new every day though. -
As we can see, what you throw out in the t-bar/naafi/mess and is deemed perfectly acceptable comes across just a tad differently in the actual real world.

Yeah 'Grade 1' surplus is definitely not the same as brand new and the price difference is very much to be expected. If you just want some really cheap stuff that's of a decent level of resilience to get wrecked at airsoft then grade 1 should be more than fine to do the job in most instances. But if the individual wants new stuff (each to their own) then that's a different matter. -

It depends what you want out of a jacket really, A't will no doubt have something in their line to suit your criteria but I'm not sure how the PCU is put together exactly. Either way I recorded a video overview yesterday so that'll be up some time soon. -
An awful lot of moulded holsters are entirely open at the bottom anyway, far from uncommon.

-4 x CR123a's for all these lights I seem to keep acquiring (eBay's great for batteries in case anyone's wondering, much cheaper than the supermarket) -Drac softshell jacket in Crocodile i.e. fancy-pants khaki -
The good old Night Warrior with some Magpul grips and a black outer barrel + barrel bushing for dark/indoor CQB and to go (eventually) with a grey loadout.

Pretty sure either philosophy is acceptable in a game of pretend-soldiers...

"Those thingys"? As in, the original Knight's Armament rail panel? As in, the panel first made by the company that invented 20mm rails? Come on now. IMO, on an old-school 7" KAC RIS they look really good.
