  1. Just bought a boneyard TM AUG with some kind of fancy suppressor thingy on it. It didnt work. 20 mins of fiddling and a bit of hop cut off, its up and running. Mags bought, conversations had about TM gears being made of cheese and i reakon it'll be a giggle on game day. (crosses fingers!!) And did a thing with the boys MP5 front grip. Used an old LED torch, a battery holder, bit of wire and a switch. Does the job and didnt cost me £70+!!!!
  2. Same argument as "garaging" a nice car over winter. Genuinely dont see the point. Someone designed it (more or less!) to be used. Get in, start it up and drive it. Met a guy with an old porsche 911 that had 500,000+ miles on it. It just got used every day. It broke. He fixed it. kept going. Granted i dont have any rifs that go past £300 but theyre all there to be used.
  3. Hiya, having done a search on the forum, you seem to be the AUG guru... :)

I have just landed a boneyard TM AUG and after a tad of fiddling, is back up and running. Barring a couple of screws that hold the hop into the barrel unit, its all good. Unfortunately, the previous owner wasnt very kind and it appears the hop unit is broken just forward of the C clip. So, i'm on the look out for a hop unit....my question is.......any makes to avoid? By the looks of it, its a dedicated hop and doesnt share any other platforms. Or am i wrong on that? the G36 one looked similar but id rather buy one that was going straight in.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is one of my bucket list RIF's (next is a FAL and then a FAMAS---i know, i'm weird...LOL!!).

    :D

Aug's are defiantly one of the oddities of the airsoft world.

Unlike other platforms like the m4 where the gearbox is locked in place and you reference everything to the gearbox, Augs have no reference or fixed points internally. It's more of a relationship.

The only real fixed point is the back of the spacer on the back of the hop. It's that engagement that sets everything else up and it took me a while to work it all out.

The hop position in the upper, Irrelevant. It just needs to move freely.
Magwell plate, irrelevant. It'll self position to the mag, and line up to the hop automatically.
Gearbox position, irrelevant. The hop will set the distance and put load onto the gearbox plate, I actually killed a magwell plate when I first got an AUG thinking shimming a gearbox would be a good idea, it's not. Let the hop spring do all that work.
Even the tappet plate/airnozzle are largely irrelevant. You need just enough space to feed well, but if it's pushing too hard on the hop the tappet spring is weak enough that it seats correctly anyway. And doesn't push the gearbox off the hop.

It's a weird gun to understand. But also very simple and very clever when you do understand it. It's by far my favourite internal design. You can set everything on the gearbox external to the body, even motor height. And the rest just works if you let it work. Most Augs i've looked at second hand that have issues all relate to the hop not moving correctly, and people going round in circles trying to fix a problem they created.

Hop fitted. High torque motor fitted. Sound deadening fitted. It's EVIL...😂

Thank you for your guidance. I've printed it out and ingested every word.👍

Glad it's all working out :D Have fun with it :D

  4. Not the greatest picture but works a treat.👍
  5. This week I have mostly made a mess.😂 Finished off painting the honey badger and put it back together. Couple of little things left to do (mlok the rail, DIY stylee) and move onto the mk23/usp45 conversion. Cut it down but the boy nicked my silencer! Git.
  6. What do I wish I knew before I started (exactly a year today!)? The sodding lottery numbers!!!
  7. Heh, I've just had two coppers move in to the downstairs flat (we have to go down stairs over their back garden to get to ours) and one of them clocked my boy with his mp5 and went "ooh an mp5. Like it!" I think they're cool with it as the front door is still on its hinges and in not full of holes...
  8. Yeah, got a cell checker. It was showing 12v at 99%. Odd. Still it fires well enough on 7.4v 2000mah. I'm not stressing about it. As for the full auto twit, we hunted him down with a bolt action and a mag full of 0.48g....😁
  9. Ooooh. Had an odd one last weekend. Went on an under 18's day with the kids and encountered what I can only describe as "full auto dad". Just brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr all the time. Not hit calling, blatant cheating and generally ignoring rule 1 of Airsoft. Ie, being a d!CK. So after hitting him 5 or 6 times, him full autoing both my boys from 6 feet away, I thought "sod this" and went back to safe zone to slot the 11.1 in instead of the 7.4. Three shots in and the MOSFET gives me 5 buzzes and no go. Under voltage apparently. On a fully charged 11.1. Weird . Went back to 7.4 and all was well again. Battery flunked? Possibly. (Oh and in case you were concerned, a 0.32 in my mk23 in the head from 10 feet wasn't called, so I emptied the 20 remaining rounds into him. Oddly he called the last one....😁)
  10. Ok, "dad tech" to the rescue!! Lol Stripped it out last night and the arl spring was mullered, so a bit of pliers action and it was back to the shape it should be. Ish. Used a bit of jb on the hole and it's back up and running, 12rps at 260fps/0.28g. yay. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys, appreciated. 👍 (Then fixed his Glock 19 as his recoil spring was in back to front and the slide was sticking!!!)
  11. How much posted+PayPal fees bud?
  12. Yeah, looks like it's new shell time. I'll give the jb stuff a punt but I'm not holding my breath. I've gotta make up a spring tester as I'm sure one of them is an m120. Which without short stroking, would probably be the culprit... Damn thing could do with a quick change spring too, you gotta strip the box each time!! It's a nice pew but like you guys have said, after a google or ten, they do have cracking issues.
  13. Hi all. My boys beloved mp5 has developed an issue. He was going for a bit more power in the shape of a new spring and found my random collection of springs. One seems to have damaged the gearbox by way of the anti reversal latch Mounting hole...it's now oval 😳 As this isn't a rotating part, could I rebuild it with chemical metal around this point? At first I thought it was just the latch being crap but it's making odd noises after cycling. Like it's pushing backwards. It's the electric blow back and other than a new gearbox case I'm struggling to think how to fix it.... Any ideas chaps/chapesses?
  14. Well, as i cant stand threads that just die off and no one knows what happened.....this happened.... I bought the M4 conversion piece (aliexpress, was about £8 and is 3d printed) and fitted it. The M4 tube mounting screw was about 10mm too long but an M6 nut and a couple of washers and jobs a good un. While i was doing that, i did actually cut his original stock down and with some M4 countersunk bolts, a bit of plate and some swearing, i managed to cut about 12cm off and remount the shoulder part. I'll get some pics tonight when i get home from work but he's a happy chap again. So happy that he bought an MP5. KIDS!!!!!
  15. Ooof. This is another rabbit hole of scary proportions that I've jumped into.... Bought two AAP in the patrol base Xmas sale thingy. One for me and one for the boy. He's already wanting to faster bits (cow cow springs?). It's already got a 6.02 and a maple leaf....😂 I quite fancy making mine into a weird but that's not even been looked at yet! Where do people start with the AAP?
  16. LoL, you arent wrong! Ah, its in st Albans, not near me unfortunately. Ah well.
  17. Chislehurst, kent? I did a quick googly search but couldnt find it. I'm in dartford and looking for other sites as i'm doing the same thing at Apocolypse 249 with the kids.
  18. Ahaaaa. Apparently there's a 3d printed doodad that allows you to fit an m4 stock to the hinge....might go looking for one of those.....
  19. I did suggest that, but he likes to pull into his shoulder. I'm thinking I might be able to cut the butt plate off and reattach a bit further forward. Hmmm.. I can hear the a team music coming on....😂😂
  20. My boy has bought himself an m89 ump45 from DE and only being little (he's 12 but a small 12) and the stock on his gnu seems a bit too long. Anyone ever shortened a stock? It's the folding type...
  21. Worst: M92F double bell. I so wanted to be mel gibson in lethal weapon. I bought a cheap gun. It is now a wall hanger after randomly dumping gas, firing at around 15fps, jamming and generally being poo. I have enough spare parts to make another one but really cant be bothered. Runner up: MB02 G spec. Meh. dont get sniping. many parts added. bank manager not happy with its performance. Turns out that its really slippery too with the baby poo paint job i did on it. Best: M904G Honey badger..badger badger badger MUSHROOOOOOM. sorry. Love it. its quiet, lobs 0.28's at people in the distance and i've done lots of my learning on it so it has a special place in my collection. Honourable mentions: both my mp5's (SD and A4) just keep going. Hate the fact that you have to strip it to component level to do anything to it but they just keep chugging along....
  22. Saturday.....My game has changed somewhat and i seem to have ended up as a marshal... Saturday is the under 18's game day and is a good laugh. The kids are great. They have that "sod it, lets get stuck in" mentality and other than a few technical issues with RIF's all went well. Took my sons friend from Ukraine who's family are over here avoiding the war (trust me here, i had a real mental debate with myself on the morality of taking him!) but he had an absolute scream and was teaching us ukrainian swearwords in the car on the way home. Boys will be boys... Test hits were all taken and called. I've been shot less on actual game days though...LOL. Wearing a hi viz is great but i had to check mine didnt have a target painted on it...
  23. Kudos to people who have dragged themselves out of the pit of despair. I've had depression and anxiety my whole adult life and unfortunately they both carry the joys of debt creation well. I've been there. I think I was u to £16k in debt at one point. The joy of opening the freshly delivered parcel was greater than the worry of how to pay for it. "Oh, I'll sort that at the end of the month" "I'll do a PayPal pay in three" "Whack it on the card, I'll pay it off" Over the years I've learned that having the latest and greatest doesn't make you the "man". In fact the opposite is actually true. I've had the expensive hobbies (rc cars, rc planes, Italian cars, marine fish, flying lessons, the list goes on) and each one has caused me issues. Airsoft with two boys of airsoft age is the latest. My boys want this, that and the other. So I'm TRYING to get them to work out what they actually NEED rather than what they WANT. I've shown them that a second hand whatnot is cheaper and just as effective if you learn how it works and fix any potential issues. My eldest got hold of my phone yesterday and decided to put an offer in on a drum mag for his AAP. The first I heard of it is reading a message from the seller accepting my offer.....needless to say I've had to apologize and have chewed him a new one. He didn't have the money and the bank of dad wasn't supporting this move. Big tears, big row and a big talking to and we have established that he is stupid for doing it (apologies again if you're reading this) but I don't need him to make the same mistakes as I did. It is a state of mind thing. You want something and the access to be able to buy it is waaaaaay too easy to do. I can go to patrol base now and buy a grands worth of stuff and it'll be here on Monday/Tuesday. In 6 months time when it's paid off plus double for interest and what have you, was it worth £2k? Nope. Depression and spending are inextricably linked. It's a black hole on loop. there's help out there (ironic that you have to pay for it, adding to the problem!!). Amazes me the kit that some people have. I wonder how much it adds up to but if they CAN afford it, good luck to them. Just pause over the "add to cart" or "buy it now" and think: Do I need it? If you're stressed, struggling or in a sand pit with you head buried, TALK TO SOMEONE. it helps. Trust me. I've been in your position. You can turn the light on at the end of the tunnel......
