  1. Pictures show the mockup and the final product.

Changes from mockup to final results:

Final version uses a short custom bipod. This was kindly made for me by my friend and former classmate.

I wanted a short bipod and it didn't have to be extendable, so he machined down a Well bipod that was broken as the threads on the left leg were stripped after lots and lots of use.

Final version has the original barrel instead of having it replaced with the suppressor entirely. This looks more DMR-like to me.

Final version has rails on top of both mount rings instead of just one.

Final version has folding sights. A scope mount with the extension extending backwards instead of forwards allows the folders to stay on. (Otherwise I would probably lose them.) The sights have been converted to manual instead of spring loaded because I kept getting the skin on my thumb caught.

Final version has a smooth suppressor without knurling.

    Quick! Somebody reassure me.

Have I gone colour blind or are those blue plugs green.

    After a quick inspection:

The rubber plug is Sea Green (Green with a slight bluish tint.) At the time I discovered it was there, I was wearing gaming eyewear which made the plug look more to the blue side.

  3. I often consider my first build to be a WE Kimber because that one was the first one to have custom parts that actually made it run smoother rather than being just cosmetic.

If I look back at the first gun I customized to my liking, this thing is the first.

It has gone through tons of changes, having had different scopes, green cloth wrapping or no cloth wrapping at all. bipod or no bipod and suppressor or no suppressor. This is what it currently looks like.

It was built over the course of 2 years as I kept getting ideas for something else to put on it. This rifle is currently semi-retired as I now prefer a more compact DMR, however it is likely to be back in service sooner or later.

This gun starred in 2 short films my friend shot last year. Appearently, him asking if he could "hide the asg trademarks" was he instead tried to sand them off. I did this mistake myself in the past twice however with similar results so perhaps I should have informed him not to. If anyone's got an idea on how to cover that up, suggestions are welcome. This gun is the OD colour it is in the picture, obviouly, while the ones I sanded a few years back are one black polymer stock and one fake wood stock.

    VFC M40A5

JS Tactical Scope (I forgot the exact model)

    ASG Harris Style Bipod

    VFC M40A5 CNC Front Rail

    ASG HUSH XL Suppressor

Total Cost was somewhere around 850€ I think.

a fair point, some of the repro lpvo's are surprisingly good in terms of clarity, although can't speak to their efficacy on a gbbr.

fair enough, was mostly a heads up because changing inner barrel length on a gbbr can catch folk unawares (mostly with pistols admittedly)

tis a very personal thing, as mentioned my experience was i rarely needed stability that couldn't be achieved by monopoding on the mag.

So regarding that thing you said about a more modern look, I tried to make a compromise between so I could get a somewhat fancier look while still using the recoil proof Walther scope by simply changing to an offset monoblock. This is how that would look and I personally like this better.

are you extending the inner barrel? because on a gbbr that's gonna have quite the effect on your energy output (it'll raise it going longer) which might not be helpful depending on your site limits.

bipod is a tricky one, i've occasionally taken the notion in the past but every time i've put one on the gun it's always been removed halfway through the game because a lighter front end is useful in more situations than a bipod, at least for airsoft ranges. although that's the purely practical viewpoint, if you just want it to look good then sure why not.

when it comes to the scope how about a lpvo? bit more of a modern look, although if you're like me it'll get set and left at 4x with a red dot stacked on top that gets used 99% of the time :P

The thing is proper optics are way out of my price range, I had to save for pretty much half a year to buy the base gun.

A replica LPVO would work just fine but I can't find any here. As I said many a time I live in Sweden but I'm on here because there's no really active Swedish airsoft forums. I'm gonna go with this Walther scope for now. It's not any fancy stuff but it's rated for double recoil which will probably help on a GBBR. I might change to LPVO in the future if i find a replica at a decent price.

This gun comes with an extended outer barrel from the factory, which is hidden by the outer barrel.

Finally, yes, bipods on airsoft DMRs tend to not be too useful. But on the other hand I've often got annoyed over the lack of something to rest the gun on.

  6. Just thought I'd share this, it's the "blueprint" for my current project. Suggestions and tips are very welcome.

    Planned Parts:

    🗹 WE-Tech HK416 GBBR (Base Gun)

🗹 M4 DMR Stock. A lot of brands make this one and I don't know which brand the one I ordered is, site didn't say.

🗹 190mm Mock Suppressor (Replaces stock outer barrel, Hides inner barrel)

🗹 An AFG that I again do not know the brand of because the site didn't list it.

    ☐ Walther 4x32 Scope

    ☐ Well Bipod

    ☐ Possibly Scope Flip Caps

  7. There is a semi transparent blue rubber plug in the grip of my WE HK416. I.... never really understood it's purpose but I'm not removing something I don't know the purpose of. It's not very pretty in that colour however and rubber probably won't take paint. So is it required and if so are there flat black ones? Tried to search for it but I found nothing since I don't know what it's called.

  8. These scopes seem to be excellent for the price, but does anyone with experience know if they:

    Are fogproof

Can handle GBBR Recoil without breaking

    Can handle light rain

    ?

As I understand it the WE 416 GBB has issues with the bolt catch itself wearing quite quickly and causing issues. A quick google for "WE HK416 bolt catch" throws up a whole bunch of threads on it.

I've seen this too when looking for answers before I decided to start this thread. I've not had any problems so far tho. I'm more worried about the lugs that hold it. If they break.... yeah. Not much to do in my case.

  10. Earlier today I was told by a friend that I "Shouldn't use the bolt catch a lot"

He said that the catch itself or the two small lugs/ears holding it's pin are prone to breaking and that the functional bolt catch, both on EBBR rifles and GBBR type rifles are more of "a detail for looks and replication of real thing but not really meant to be used a lot"

Needless to say, I'm a little confused. If they were just for looks why would they be functional? have I been completely misinformed or is there some truth to it? Feels like a stupid question but if the catch snaps It's not gonna be easy finding a spare here. If the lugs snap then It's probably done for, finding a spare receiver is probably impossible.

Not sure if this is related, but I never run my rifle (a WE416, which I recently started building into more of a DMR) above 145 PSI. Is this good or bad? should it be more or less or is it good?

Similarly, I've always used NiMH in my CYMA AK. I know people tend to prefer Li-Po but I'm satisfied with the battery it came with. However I have very little experience with electric guns.

  11. I'm working on a GBBR build, based on a WE HK416.

I've never worked with GBBR type weapons before and there are some things I'd like to know.

First of - the RA-Tech Steel Bolt Catch & Trigger assembly. I don't live in the UK but this is the forum I prefer to use. I live in Sweden.... which is a big problem for an airsofter. Spare and Upgrade parts are very hard to find here and RA-Tech is pretty much unheard of in stores. What would be a good way to get these parts?

Another thing is the inner barrel. The outer barrel has been changed to a 190mm mock suppressor. Does the suppressor need to be modified to support the inner barrel?

Then there's the way too common issue of optics. Do budget-friendly optics for such a build even exist? A really cheap red dot or scope would obviously at best work for a few days and fall apart after a few shots at worst.

There's also the signature buffer tube-mounted stock of the AR type rifle. Do all aftermarket stocks fit? Or do I have to ask the retailer before ordering?

And finally, should this gun actually have a mock suppressor? Or does it put too much weight on the floating barrel?

The idea is to build a DMR. What parts can be used to increase accuracy?

General build tips overall are also much appreciated.

There are many like it but this one is mine.

  12. A simple design, mostly cosmetic, with an edgy name, yes?
