  1. So, you might have seen the Chrome monstrosity that I crimped off in the gun picture thread. My wife has expressed an interest in having a go at a game but only if she could carry something loud and ridiculous. One loud and ridiculous gun later, I’m almost ready to surprise her EXCEPT the Thompson Hicaps are just trash and don’t keep up with the gun. Im hesitant to buy a pack of King Arms midcaps as I don’t think she’ll want to carry 5/6 magazines about. Hell, she doesn’t yet realise she’ll have a pistol on her waist and mags for that too! Has anyone got working experience of the drum mags? The Thompson build is [email protected] and I would like a magazine that keeps up with the ROF but isn’t a total bastard to wind. Don’t want to put her off before she begins!
  2. My latest lockdown-boredom project has reached its vomit inducing climax... Boneyard Cyma Thompson King Arms Silver body Hydrodipped furniture 13:1 SHS Gears SHS Swiss cheese piston SS 3 teeth Bearing piston head Bearing spring guide M105 Macaron 50* SHS High torque Rewired for Gate Nanohard in stock InSpIrEd By A rEaL GuN, iF yOu SuRvIvEd NoRmAnDy WiThOuT tAkInG a HiT, yOu WeRe GiVeN a ChRoMe ToMmY edit - The hop doesn’t like the Maple leaf rubber. It’s a prommy purple now and it’s sitting at 305 FPS with 0.25’s. Bugger all deviation
  3. If you haven’t short stroked the piston and sector gear at that rate of fire you’d better take a back up when you skirmish it... you know, for when that piston gets chewed up. It’s unlikely that the spring is stiff enough to fully return the piston before being picked back up. Either the sector gear is going to take teeth off the rack or it could bind and the gear axle or bearing will fail (becomes more likely with full steel teeth on a piston). You may even find that with the FPS in full auto becomes unplayably low due to the premature engagement! Its a faff, but if you want it to last, you’re going to have to reopen it! Take it from experience, I thought people were being a bit ott but I haven’t had to take the walk of shame since following Sitting Duck’s advice
  4. Specna E10... I fell for the swish advertising speil. Gearbox was dry as a nuns c*%#, shimming was non existent, bearing housing cracked and failed catastrophically which deformed one side of the gearbox, rough cylinder hole sliced the piston head O-ring in two. That Orion gearbox is junk
  5. I’m going to work on a pimp/WW2 outfit so I can take it to Milsim events. Something along these lines perhaps?
  6. Here’s a taster for something I’m hoping to have complete before the weekend... I’ve finished the actual gun, it’s chrome...
  7. AKMSU hand guard finally arrived, looks great, feels awesome. Had to sneak in a picture of the Combat Union rotary hop, awesome piece of geardo-porn
  8. I’m gob smacked about the distance seller time frame only being 14 days but I’m certain that it’s the consumer’s responsibility to prove the fault. Here’s a snippet from a Which mag guide who are firing at this from the consumer’s side. “If your claim under the Sale of Goods Act ends up in court, you may have to prove that the fault was present when you bought the item and not, for example, something that was the result of normal wear and tear.” It’s all a bit murky, even the legal advice from our retailers association can differ case to case. The best solution is always to come to an agreement before something ugly happens with social media and google reviews, the retailer should really be trying to find a mutually acceptable solution before coming to blows
  9. 99% sure it’s an act not a law. The onus is actually on the consumer to prove there was a fault from point of purchase. The case can be argued in a small claims court if it is felt that the item has not lasted a “reasonable period of time”. That’s commonly seen as a few years (5-7) for white goods but it gets super murky with grey goods. Frankly, I’m surprised they’ve been dicks as it’s massively beneficial to the retailer to not call their client a liar, you know, if they want to see that customer again... If it’s within 28 of the initial purchase, if you bought it online you’re well within your rights to pursue a full refund thanks to the distance selling regulations 2014 That’s probably your best bet when dealing with tools
  10. It’s an LCT part, I want to say PK-59. I couldn’t find any left on these shores so mine took the long boat from Airsofttiger in Hong Kong. I think it’s great having a sight so low. The top rails and B18 Zenitco’s are so high up that aiming feels unnatural - not the case with the railed gas tube
  11. I got bored over the weekend and picked up a Boneyard Cyma M1A1 as a project. I'm toying with the idea of Bought a Chrome body from Airsoft Tiger and I've got some Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap kicking around... Chrome and Carbon Tommy gun anyone?
  12. I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread. My better half has actually shown an interest in attending and I’d love for her to get the bug! If they can run a sustained series of games with the current regs, I’ll doff my cap to them and explain to the wife it’s safe to have a crack! (That way I could actually be honest about how many guns I actually have...)
  13. Ah, but with all the chrome crap on it it IS the ugliest! I think an Allen key or screw driver permanently hanging out the side may actually improve the looks! With the current build (tempting fate here) I shouldn't need to have to decompress the M4 gearbox. The Jefftron is set to "14%" active break that with the high torque motor seems to perfectly stop after each cycle. By writing that down, it's not going to work anymore...
  14. On the AK build, I put in a Modify ARL for this very reason. The Modify ones have a flat head slot on them so you can detension the spring. Total faff though as you have to remove the pistol grip to get to it... Not figured out a non-kludgy way of doing it on the M4. A M160 under tension can be quite exciting if you aren’t expecting it, even with a QSC!
  15. I don’t get the appeal of pre-cock. I’m a space cadet at the best of times, the odds that I’d store something with the spring under tension are way too high, hence going DSG to get the fast response without having to precock the piston
  16. Careful, binary triggers get people on here a bit twitchy I wonder what they’ll be like when they see my Tri-nary trigger!
  17. That's just daft! I get full auto only on an LMG but not on that! Getting the M160 into the RetroArms was easy, QSC and all. It was a bit trickier getting one into the LCT gearbox, luckily I was born with three arms so I could hold the gearbox, push in the spring and give the ARL the middle finger as it fell out again and again all at the same time.
  18. I had the M4 running at just over 50rps with a 35,000 motor. The motor was pulling so much current and getting so hot that it was little more than an experiment in if it would work. Made a hell of a noise, 50rps/M160/Noveske amplifier... The high torque motor and 18:1 gears (well, 9:1) keep the draw low and essentially make for a fairly low stress build as far as the motor is concerned. The main benefit I see with the DSG is how noticeable the improvement in semi auto response is. I typically play most games in semi, you can really feel the difference in how quickly the piston is released as it's essentially short stroked by 7 teeth! Whether it's expectation bias, it certainly FEELS like it plays better
  19. Poprocket, I don’t know who’s M4 wanker gun is uglier. It’s a close run race! My AK wanker gun seems almost tasteful in comparison
  20. Deliberately incendiary title aside, I was curious to see if anyone had ended up with similar builds to my lockdown boredom builds. There's a lot of negativity towards anything that has a dual sector gear inside and I wanted to see if my builds are the anomaly or what a few of us have ended up using. Where I play is a woodland site, with woodland problems. It's not an unusual issue to find that branches/leaves or otherwise affect your hit probability so burst modes have always appealed to me as the best solution. For this end, a lower speed DSG set up and ETU seemed to be the best option. With plenty of time to tinker over lockdown, I ordered an SHS DSG and V2 tappet as an experiment. The resulting AEG has a ASG 22000 motor, normal ratio gearset, M160 spring and a 9 tooth SHS lightweight piston. I'm getting a reliable 35/36rps at around 320fps and the responsiveness of the build is superb. The ETU in that build is a Jefftron Leviathan that has allowed me to control what the build does; in this case, safe/semi/5rd burst. This strikes me as a fairly ideal AEG set up for woodland use. I was so happy with the outcome (and still had time on my hands) so I ordered a SHS DSG and V3 Tappet did basically the same build with an LCT 74uN. I slapped a Gate Merf 3.2 in the stock, set it to a 140ms burst and now have an AK that gives me the same safe/5rd burst/semi as my M4 build with a similar 36.5rps@340fps - EXCEPT just as with the M4 it CANT go full auto AnD MaKe DeM ChEaTeRs PaY I understand the hate towards high ROF builds as there is potential for a wanker to really hose someone down (even if you're not a wanker a slow trigger press on full auto with a 40RPS DSG could send 20+ bb's!) but is there anyone else who's using a DSG/ETU combo for a tight semi/burst build as opposed to going the OC airsoft way? I'm hoping that there's a few of us who've built some DSG based platforms with the intention being control as opposed to being a dick. If so, I'd love to see some other people's builds as food for thought for future projects. Let's be honest, it's basically techie porn. To get it started, this was my first attempt: Retro Arms Split V2 Gearbox SHS 21.4mm Nozzle Rocket M160 Spring SHS lightweight piston, metal rack taken down to 9 teeth ASG POM pistonhead, bearing removed SHS Cylinderhead SHS DSG + V2 Tappet plate SHS 1/2 Cylinder Jefftron Leviathan ASG Infinity 22000 Motor I'm very curious to see what the consensus is on this sort of build, whether the mere mention of a sector gear with extra teeth makes me a total wanker or whether it makes a few other woodland players think "That'd be pretty handy, actually". Could also be a decent knowledge pool for anyone thinking about a similar build, I destroyed a few pistons figuring out what I was doing (RetroArms 9 tooth POM pistons seem to be made of cheese, just take teetth off of a SHS) and was surprised at how fussy tappet fins are in a DSG context
  21. The prevalence of these things makes me quite nervous. It’s easier than most people think to give someone permanent hearing damage. Where I play is all outdoors so it would be extremely unlikely (or unlucky) for someone to end up seriously affected but indoor sites, where build materials generally have an extremely low absorption coefficient and players would be in closer proximity to the device would be a ideal scenario for hearing loss or damage.
  22. "'Member the lad who rage-quit when told that an airsoft L85 wouldn't be any more accurate or longer ranged than an MP5? Just wasn't having any of those lies from us no-nothings. " I remember back in 2006 or so, putting a 650mm barrel in a stock JG AK/Dragunov (half cylinder) and wondering why I could throw the pellets further than the gun could.
  23. I find it interesting the trend with 2nd hand Novritsch Sales: A.) How many Novritsch items come up for sale unskirmished. B.) How similar so many of the listings are (only used for backyard plinking) C.) I bought this two days ago but now I’m leaving Airsoft forever, press F to pay respects. It makes me suspect that the Novritsch team has become less stringent on checking for a defence as so many of these seem to have been bought by people who are not active skirmishers. Maybe a “sales a sale” attitude has been adopted to get through a tough time? Still, it’s a second hand item and the price is silly if he wants to tempt someone to by his one instead of just buying a new unit from NV.
  24. AirsoftPro M249 Hop chamber V2, ML Macaron 50, ML Nub and a SHS High Torque motor. I had to see it to believe it just how bad those A&K M249 hops were. Hopefully the V2 AirsoftPro is an improvement!
  25. I’ve been trying to find more garish crap to stick to it. I want people to assume it’s a POS... Internally it’s a pretty mean build. 9:1 DSG on a ASG Infinity 22000 kicks out a fair bit of plastic and the mags keep up with 0.28’s.
