That's a use, but it's a rare one. If someone gets uppity about me "shooting too close" when I know I'm not (because I've been dealing with a 30m MED for literal decades at this point) then it allows me to prove without argument that I am correct. I mostly use it for longer distance, because it allows me to know roughly where I need to aim for the really long distance shots (talking like... 85m+). It's not the exact science that it is in real-steel shooting, but I've found it can give me an idea of roughly where I need to aim on my scope reticle to hit the shot with somewhat decent success. If there's wind, success chance drops a bunch, but it still gives me a good starting point to then work out where I need to shoot accounting for wind as well. Also useful for recon purposes. Being able to tell other people exactly how far away stuff is can come in handy too.
