I wouldn't mind but it would help if when the assorted comiccons said "no realistic replica firearms" in their rules they actually enforced it.....

 

That said the decision to walk through London open carry style is indicative of how badly we need Darwinian Evolution to kick in again.

It's a dumb teenager who's probably spent too much time online to like, understand how that's perceived out in the real world.

 

It's something I keep telling new Airsofters when they go home in full tactical clobber and guns barely concealed in bags, (sometimes not concealed at all). 

 

People will notice. It takes one concerned caller saying the magical word "I think it's a gun" anywhere near a major public place, and then every bobby available will be on hand to feed you the pavement.

What concerns me are the repercussions on airsoft.  As we all know the government is struggling with catastrophic policies and an increasingly volatile society so they'll jump on any chance to pretend they're cracking down on 'dangerous radical groups'.

We could easily go the way of Australia...

I agree completely. I don't just blame the kids, I blame the parents who show no common sense either. 

 

I was at an airsoft shop not so long ago where this lad, no more than 13 or 14 came in the shop open carrying some AR-15 based replica with his dad present. The staff gave them a minor bollocking and insisted they use a large plastic bag before leaving the store and rightly said an armed response unit could have been sent over. The shop was somewhat secluded in an industrial estate but the front door was directly opposite an active business.

 

 

Some of the most shameless idiocy I'd seen was at Birmingham ComicCon where people were open-carrying RIFs in the lobby at the NEC. Considering the location being right by a major UK airport and train station, how did they not think there is going to be a constant police presence?

 

The sooner we get rid of Just Cos or the sooner its terms invalidate the insurance if you open carry, the better.

If you're worried about it though, sign up with UKAPU. Genuinely, if a new weapons law de facto band Airsoft, we are going to need something that lobbies on our behalf with some collective representation.

 

It's how the NABV in the Netherlands got an exemption to firearms laws passed for Airsoft after it got banned for a few years. Not at all perfect, but we can at least learn from them.

I not sure either as to how much of a threat incidents like these are to our sport, but it does make me shiver a bit knowing how much gear many players have amassed over the years to then be told ‘that’s all now illegal’.

 

I don’t have much but it’d still be a nasty whack to have it all taken off me. 

 

And all because of pricks like this. 
 

How does anyone get to that age without realising that pulling shit like this is a bad idea?

Many many moons ago a pressure group called "Mothers against Guns" wheeled out an 'expert' who was willing to testify that aeg's could easily be converted to fire live ammo.  (Edit: as of 2023 the gun control network is still spreading this lie.) The fact that the doris who was running the group was married to an MP let that bit of misinformation get a LOT further than it should have, and this was before non IRA terrorism became "the new normal".

 

See also the number of times that carrying a knife in public has been made illegal. Pretty sure we're on the 4th or 5th time that a government has decided to make a big fuss of creating legislation to ban knife crime rather than just enforcing the existing laws......

That's because new laws give the impression something is being done, creating PR opportunities, rather than actually doing something. Just look at the legislation around "zombie knives", yes they sound nasty but in reality the vast majority of knife crime is done with something that you'd find in any home kitchen. Bugger all will change but at least the daily mail reading pearl clutchers will be placated
