CYMA CM.098 midcap nightmare

Hi lads, first post on here so forgive the dodgy etiquette or if I've missed something

I recently picked up one of the CYMA Platinum CM.098s, the 'quick-detach suppressor' variant (that was robbed of a 14mm ccw thread for whatever reason) from a fella used and while it's in relatively nice nick one problem I have is that I've only got one grubby high-cap magazine with it, which while it fits lovely I'd much rather prefer to use mid-caps.

However, and herein lies the problem - I just can't find the right ones. I ordered a set of three CYMA SR-25 midcaps (pictured above), the STANAG style straight metal ones as I prefer the look to the overly tacticool P-Mags and after they finally arrived I've been met with the unfortunate problem that they're extremely, extremely tight - to the point that you practically have to massage them into place and they don't drop at all whenever you push the mag release and even tried to leave a couple of marks on the thin and thick sides of the magazine after only one insertion (which thankfully was barely surface level and rubbed off fine with zero damage to the magazine, as I ended up returning these to the retailer just before) as I was forced to practically yank the things out, the fitment was that tight.

So, I was wondering - do any other CYMA Platinum SR-25 owners have any solutions for a decent mid-cap? I'm not fully opposed on going the plastic-high-speed-operator style if the fitment is good enough, but the classic straight box mag look would be ideal.

Thanks in advance!

I just use the standard ones and they work fantastically well. May not be the ideal look you're after, but they'll work like a charm.

My Cyma 098 came new with a metal midcap that looks identical to those that you have bought, and don't appear to fit. Obviously, the one that came with the RIF fits perfectly. Very surprised to hear that those are proving problematic for you. I assume that you have checked inside the mag well in case the previous owner has 'shimmed' it - e.g. with tape, glue, or self adhesive velcro? If the magwell isn't the problem, perhaps its a non standard hop unit that has been fitted which is fouling the top of the mags, or is not shimmed itself correctly? My hop barrel has a few O rings on it in front of the hop unit to ensure the unit is pushed backwards enough to align the unit with the corresponding 'hole' in the top of the mag...

Failing all of that -appreciating that its not a route you want to go down - my P-mag style battleaxe polymer mags  (220 rd) fit perfectly...

These are 7.62 style, not 5.56.

Would a Scar-H mag work?

Yeah, checked inside and there's no tape, strips or anything of the like that could be causing problems. I married the two different mags up together to try and see if there's a size difference and to the naked eye I couldn't really tell. From what I know, the hop looks completely standard and when I was trying to insert the mid-caps in they started to get stuck way, way before it was even near the hop.

Looks like those bastard P-mags are the easy way out while I wait for the A&K ones to go back in stock (as I read that they fit nicely inside the platinum 098). Whatever works, at the end of the day!

Edit: Just ordered the Nuprol ones with the cool little round-window as they're more likely to come in time for Sunday's game. If they decide to give me murder I'll look at the battleaxe ones just like you said.

Where exactly is it binding ? Should be easy enough to see any witness marks , if it’s 360 then no hope , if it’s front to back then it’s likely just the overlapping metal seam at the back of the magazine .

Was a full 360 mate, was why I ended up returning them to the retailer. Shame, but what can you do.

And on the topic of retailers..

As much as I was hell-bent on hating the P-mags I can't help but feel that these kind of look fucking cool and I don't hate them, as cheesy as the mock bullet window is. They fit and feed flawlessly which is the more important thing obviously. We'll see if they'll hold up any well on Sunday's game!
