I agree with you, Boro.

Killing a horse because it broke it's leg or fell over, or whatever is just wrong on so many levels and I would never under any circumstances have anything to do with it, or killing any other animal for any other reason, for that matter.

However, I get everyone else's point of view as well, cows, pigs, chickens etc are all bred for food so that we don't have to go out and hunt them, we've adapted as a species to make things easier for ourselves, it's just the natural course of things.

Horses are bred to be used for racing, riding and numerous other reasons, they aren't bred to live happy lives or produce another product, so once they become incapable of fulfilling their role, all they're doing is costing the owner money, so they put them down, which is horrifically cruel, horrible and unnecessary, they could donate the horse to a little girl who'd love a horse or something like that, it doesn't have to die because it broke its leg, legs can mend, it's truly ridiculous.

But as you say, money is the driving force, currency is everything and if anything is causing you to have negative cash flow, you're going to do something about it and killing a horse, unfortunately, is the most cost effective way of ending the negative cash flow.

That's the way I see it, if they just put horses down because it cost them money, surely something would be done about it.

As far as I see it, killing the horse would be the kindest thing to do as you cant fix a horses broken leg.

I don't think they would simply kill a horse without a good reason, there would be no point, unless it's the mot humane course of action to take.

Like dogs, you can't just have your dog put down because you don't want it anymore, there has to be a good enough reason.

Dog food is often made of horse meat, Craig lol. Pedigree is a dog food company.
