  1. Still waiting to get those magwells back but here’s a quick update. The Notritsch has now got its optics mounted in a fashion I’m happy with and is running like a champ. The accidental Limcat is also almost finished. I think I’m just waiting on the magwell to come back. The Limcat hammer is a bit swish! The Baby Hicapa that came with the mount for the Notritsch is almost done. The outerbarrel causes the slide to lock up so I’m waiting on a Guarder barrel to arrive from Firesupport Finally, the IPSC holster is amazing. Combined with the IPSC belt, the holster doesn’t flap about and makes for a nice, crisp pull. Need to see how it holds up!
  2. I’m hoping that I can make it to the AFUK meet up, vaccine pending. Hope you’re rocking the dual wield by then
  3. The mulleted Togusa would be pretty awesome with the Mateba Pair of Cutlasses will be sweet, need to see some piccies once they’ve arrived!
  4. I decided that, given 2020 was such a frustratingly dull year, I deserved a treat. The Notritsch is already going to have a facelift, now that I have a better idea of what I want from my HiCapas. I’ve got an AM Mega Slide on the way from HK, along with some AIP FO sights for the Notritsch and for the Limcat. Hopefully an AM advanced frame is on its way via new retailer HiCapaHub, who seems like a knowledgable and enthusiastic guy to deal with. I’ve got some magwells over with Mark at FMJUK being Cerakoted currently to match the tungsten grey that should be back soon. The latter part of January should be interesting for this thread. There will be three very distinct pistols built, two 5.1’s and one 3.8 for different roles. “Why a 3.8?” Ive carried a Makarov on my chest rig for a while and always found it a faster draw than hip-mounted when carrying a long gun like the M14. Problem with the Makarov was that I only had one magazine. The 3.8 is having a normal 4.3/5.1 grip, so it’ll have access to 6 mags, problem solved. ”Two 5.1’s?” Yup, one more traditional than the other for woodland play and one superlightweight job for indoor play with a frame mounted RMR to not slow down the cycling time of the slide. Ive also discovered the joys of the IPSC style holsters. I’ll post some pictures once the IPSC belt has arrived. They grip the trigger guard+barrel aperture so you can holster a hicapa securely, even with a RMR mounted via the frame. I’ll have to see how they hold up in a skirmish, but first impressions are good. I bought a £25 Amazon KO as a means of testing the water. If it holds up to the abuse, I’ll probably buy a real CR holster when this one breaks Happy new year
  5. No, stronger spring not required. The higher torque motors will get going quicker than a high speed type, hence the trigger response being better. They’ll also run cooler and draw less amps, getting more out of your battery. My first build, I went straight to the high speed motors. Could have cooked bacon on the pistol grip! If you had meant a stronger spring to avoid premature engagement, I would humbly and hypocritically recommend not going high speed until you’ve got a reliable work horse to fall back on! The walk of shame is a cnut and there’s no guarantee of the site having a spare rental. I’ve had to sit out a fair few games from shredding pistons, cracking gearbox shells, bursting bearings and once from a near lipo fire!
  6. The SHS high torque or Rocket motors are excellent value and perform as advertised. 13:1 + Rocket High torque and 11.1v should give you c.20rps with a snappy trigger response. Have a look on AK2M4 If you want to spend more Dosh, the ASG motors are pretty snazzy. The 22000 has oodles of torque and in theoryland would give you c.25rps. More issues will creep in at ROF above this and chew up pistons without notice! For your first build, twenty is plenty. It’ll last, have great trigger response and good rof Rough expected rof worked out using Sittingduck’s rule. Motor [email protected]/gear ratiox1.55 for an extra cell then less a bit because no build is perfect...
  7. The devil makes work for idle hands... Mrs has been playing Mass Effect all day so I’ve been browsing websites, looking at Hi-Capa parts again...
  8. Normally I’d be on side with the regulars here, banging the “leave it alone if it’s your only gun” drum BUT I had a Specna Edge and the gearbox failed catastrophically, stock, quickly. The Gate mosfet supplied is likely the cause of overspin and double shooting. With your new motor, hopefully this will be a thing of the past, if not it’s worth looking at a Gate unit with Active breaking. The bearings are terrible in the Orion boxes. A bearing in mine shattered, the force deforming the shell. Replace with different 8mm bearings or bushes. AOE isn’t really something to worry about, certainly not obsess over. The other area to look at on the Specna Orion is the cylinder port. On mine the cut was so rough that it sliced the piston head O ring in two! Get in there with your finger and check for burrs. If it’s bad, a fine file and some 1000-3000grit paper will be the best bet. If you can’t be arsed, new cylinder! The PDI barrel will likely be a very nice piece of kit but the real secret to range in Airsoft is the mass of the projectile (shhhhh!) Ali
  9. What’s wrong with your G&G? Surely it’s worth pursuing a fix first? Ive crossed threads, burnt out motors, frazzled mosfets, stripped pistons, snapped off stocks but I’ve never just binned a gun!
  10. A House move has been delayed due to useless solicitors and public holidays so I’ve been absent mindedly browsing websites and buying bits to take my mind off the move. Got a side mount on its way for the Novristch. Any recommendations on holsters that accommodate the RMR mount? The mount is coming with what is basically a free Baby Hi-Capa. I think I’ll replace my Makarov with it as a chest-mounted back-up back-up. Can’t wait to get fiddling with that! Ali
  11. Welcome to Airsoft where specifications are more recommendation than rule. There is a chance that they’ve made it to a dovetail spec which are more commonly found on air rifles. I think the biggest dovetail is about 19mm and the smallest is around 13mm Option 1.) Grab a file and remove material from the light Option 2.) return the item and buy a flashlight from a UK retailer who has chosen to retail it as it actually fits 20mm rails
  12. Different engraver found, waiting for quote. Just incase anyone was having dificulty sleeping - here's what a £130 Cyma needed to be a DMR. Gearbox casing is fine with no obvious defects, more for the ceremony than anything I've polished the rails with Mothers Aluminum polish. Who knows if it makes any difference but it makes me THINK the piston cycles better. Stock cylinder head was also fine so I've kept that and the stock cylinder in place. Unfortunately, the airseal was non-existant, I've kept the Cyma piston but changed out the piston head for a ported aluminum jobbie I had laying around. The stock nozzle wasn't great, so I splashed out on a Prometheus which seals and feeds. ASG M125 spring with a bearing spring guide coupled with a Modify 6.03 barrel if giving the desired FPS. There was no reason to change out the gearset but a saw a deal on some standard ratio Prometheus V7 gears that I couldn't resist... Quick shim and that's all happy. Stock bushings are fine. If you remove the selctor bar from the V7 gearbox, the cut off lever cannot be lifted. This gives a clean and reversible semi only lock. The Cyma motor wasn't great so I switched that out for an ASG Infinity 30,000. The ASG motors are a bit on the big side so a fair bit of filing had to happen to allow for proper motor height adjustment. Cabling was switched out for some decent gauge stuff and a Gate trigger cable was put in place. Currently there's a NanoHard in the stock set to no active-brake and 7.4V battery protection. Active brake was making the spring go TWANG bizarrely, but the gun doesn't require AB on a 7.4 and the trigger response is spot on. Finally, the Cyma Hop unit was not a great casting and actually asymetrical. I got a TM unit from FireSupport and went with the obligatory ML Macaron/Omega nub route. Fun project internally, but as usual I've spent more than the base gun on UpGrAdEs! I still can't hit anything, but I certainly cant blame the M14
  13. Didn’t even realise it was a thing until now. This has been driven by the desire to have something that no one else on the field has. Where can I find out about the Namsoft? This coming year I’m going to dip my toe into indoor, it’d be cool to dive into some more Milsim based scenarios too. Got a couple of half marathons in the calendar, so the more games I do the less boring training!
  14. Decided to strip the finish off of the stock as it wasn’t quite dark enough to look authentic. Some sanding and staining later and it’s getting close to where I want it to be. Didn’t manage to get to the engraver today so that’s going to have to wait until after Christmas. Bah Humbag
  15. Believe it or not, this is what progress looks like... Mixed up some JB Weld to fill in the “made in China” on the trigger guard. Sanded down all of the seams. Seeing the engraver tomorrow fun times
  16. Having had a few messages back and forth now. I’m leaning towards the new “sheen” of the E110. The more parkerised finish might be a bit dull for what I’m after. What did you do with yours Mr Helmet?
  17. Certainly is. At least the vaccinations have begun. Saw a friend drop her mother off for her jab earlier today and it struck me as a bit of a “light at the end of the tunnel” moment. Fingers crossed chaps, still looking forwards to meeting you... and then shooting at you
  18. Is Newbury in the dreaded tier 4 for now?
  19. Good morning good sirs, Now that I’ve sated myself for now with Hi-Capas, it’s time to have a closer look at something I started last year. I wanted a DMR, people had started bringing semi-auto 450fps stuff to the field and I wanted something that actually felt and looked as if it could justify that role. The final straw was when chronoing in at Finmere, a new face boldly stated that his short-barrelled M4 derivative with an enormous scope was a DeE EmM ArRrR. That night I bought a Cyma M14 as a base. Internally it’s all sorted. A few key internal switcharoos and a bit of TLC has given a stable output of c.435 with hop set for 0.4’s. The stock hides a Gate mosfet, the selector plate has been removed so the cut off lever cannot be lifted. The hop unit has been switched out for a TM, rubber and nub with the obligatory Maple leaf. I replaced the feed springs in some Cyma mid caps to make sure I had reliable, rattle-free mags and that’s the boring bit out of the way. Externally is where I want a few pointers. Ive already replaced the Cyma stock with a Wooden jobby. The original finish was ‘orrid so it’s been sanded, stained and sealed with OSMO, a beeswax based finish. I’ve stuck a RIS top cover on there and a nice Hawke 3-9x50AO scope on there. Here’s where the question lies. What to do to next. Ive gotten in touch with a local engraver to get some trademarks on the receiver. The Cyma has a printed serial number on the receiver but no actual trades, that’s got to change. I think I’ve settled on Winchester trades, a peculiar and scarce manufacturing run of RS M14’s. I’ve popped a picture of the markings. If anyone knows of anything even more obscure, I’m open to suggestions. The other area that I need a hand with is finish. The Cyma paint is crap and there are seam lines on almost all of the cast metal bits. I’ll be doing some sanding and finishing before it all goes over to Mark at FMJUK for a Cerakote finish. I’m hovering over E110 Midnight to try and get that parkerised look. Am I looking at totally the wrong colour? Will I just end up with a blue M14? I’m really hesitant to just go with Graphite Black as I want a bit of flair. What’s the opinion on best Cerakote for a M14? These threads are useless without pictures so I’ll make sure to take some when I’m back in work on Monday Ali
  20. Out of curiosity, have you run a longer inner barrel to use the Hi-Capa as a DMR style platform?
  21. Mag baseplate bolt on order from Fire-Support. That makes 5 mags in total now I’ve got 5 AIP STI style base plates on the way, they fit the TM style mag bottoms and secure with a grub screw. They’re aluminium and cheap enough that if I have to go at them with a file to get them to fit it’s a bit of a non issue. Looking forwards to trying the Notritsch out at the Zed adventures forum meet up.
  22. Made 4 working mags out of all the bits that I had ordered. 3 are full fat Guarder Aluminium housings, TM lips, 9B router, Guarder inlet and base and Guarder outlet valve. STI trades on the back and look/feel pretty swish 1 is a kitbash of the least shitty leftovers. Novristch routers are NOT authentic 9B for anyone following, they’re just purple... At least they aren’t proprietary! New issue with the posh mags is that the random bumpers I’ve got don’t all fit. Has anyone got any views on the CCT ones? Edit: 5 mags if I can find a bolt long enough to hold a magazine base in place
  23. Agreed. It was just the first thing to hand and it wasn’t very “airsofty” It’s what happens, fiddling away building guns inside of a Hi-Fi shop!
  24. Ignore the backdrop, area where we do 2nd hand photography is a state at the moment so it’s a back-room bodge! This was a Novristch SSP1 with a slide lock that would fall out (hilarious on the field) a thumb safety that would engage randomly (also hilarious on the field) and a slide that would rattle about so much that you could mistake the gun for a half full high capacity magazine. Now it’s a swish Tungsten-grey gnu with a handle on the side for faster pewing. I name it the Notritsch
