The Most Boring Noob Question - Knee Pads?
38super replied to 38super's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Let's assume that I'm not in a position to spend more on my trousers than I spent on my RIF. They do look like good kit though. This look like an idea worth pursuing though. Unless they have moveable knee pads the leg length will be wrong for me (28" inside leg) I like this idea. Similar to what I had in mind using velcro but simpler. -
The Most Boring Noob Question - Knee Pads?
38super replied to 38super's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Since I've already got the pocket inserts looks like it's time to brush up on my sewing skills. If that fails I'll try the Altaflex. -
Most people recommend knee pads but I've never had much success with them myself. Always found them more trouble than they were worth. For the odd occasion when I've needed them they have usually slipped down to my ankles or I'm constantly pulling them up. Either too loose to stay put or tight enough to cut off the circulation in my legs. I've tried some trousers with the built in knee pad pockets but as I'm vertically challenged the pockets are at shin level. I'm thinking maybe adding custom pockets to my trousers which could be tricky or using velcro patches to try to keep the pads in place. Does any one have any fool proof tips or ideas for knee pro?

Since I've picked it up basically for free I'm going for a helmet build. One Tigris mask attached to X800 goggles and both secured to the helmet by one strap, ear defenders mounted to the arc rails with input ready for comms if I get to that stage. There's a whole new world of helmet accessories I didn't know about. If nothing else it's giving me something to do.
-
I can't really say at the moment. Only got it last night and some of the padding is missing. A size 58 hat was too small for my head so I'm probably about 60cm and the helmet has room to move on me. I'll update when I've sorted out the padding.
-
It doesn't have a liner just individual pads. I guess I'll just have to pull them all out until I find the marking. I'm probably going to replace all the padding anyway. It's most likely FMA as there aren't that many choices in the Airframe.
-
Thanks for all the input. I've gone for some Bolle X800 (used but perfect condition) as I couldn't resist the offer. Bolle X800 + ESS V12's + what looks like a 'Delta Mike' face pro + an old Airframe helmet for £50. Now I have to put a helmet build together. Anyone know how to identify the make of an Airframe helmet?
-
Can you attach face pro to the Bolle Trackers or would that not work? I looked at the Delta Mike face pro but I'm not sure about the balaclava type setup. I'd like to be able to wear ear pro and I'm not sure ear defenders would work with it. Maybe ear defenders are a bit OTT though?
-
I'd love to know how you get on with the X800's. They're probably top of my list at the moment. They seem to have the most positive 'not fogging' reviews. Bolle also do the 810 which looks very similar. The X800 looks more designed to work with a helmet. There's plenty of room behind the lens on the Bolle X800 to pass a cable tie through but I wonder if that might distort the soft rubber frame too much. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a pair.

Having found out my usual shooting glasses are not up to airsoft standard I've been looking at alternatives. It looks like I'll want to attach lower face pro to the eye pro and I'd like to be able to wear my Impact Sport ear defenders with them. Currently I'm considering :- Bolle X800 Bolle Tracker 2 Pyramex I Force Valken Zulu Valken Sierra Valken Tango Revision Desert Locust Revision Bullet Ant Revision Exoshield Any others I should look at or ditch from the list?
-
That looks very neat.👍 I'm beginning to think that a custom build is probably the way forward. If my performance in paintball is anything to go by I'm basically a bullet magnet and I will get hit (a lot). I'm thinking of wearing my Howard Leights as ear pro and it looks like mask attached to goggles would work with that. Not planning on a helmet just yet but that might depend on how often I get hit on the noggin. I'll start a new thread about eye pro as I discovered last night that my normal shooting glasses don't make the grade.

The small size is described as "womens/teenagers" and I know I'm shorter than pretty much all of both in my classroom😁 This is the mask. It has soft padded sides but the strap arrangement seems designed to pull it onto my chin. All the youtubes I've watched say it's the best.
-
I had the chance to try the One Tigris face pro as I want to be able to use sights. I thought the small version might be OK as I'm 5'4" I found that no matter how I fitted it the pressure was resting on my chin and the mask would shift around when I tried to talk or move my mouth and I kept having to push it back into place. Was this just the wrong size for me or is this a common problem for this style of face Pro? Should I look at a completely different style of face pro or persevere in modifying a One Tigris to fit? Attaching the face pro to goggles or a helmet seem to be popular choices.

Anyone Else Booked Their First Airsoft Game Back?
38super replied to Spartan09's topic in Other Events and Meets
Booked in for my first ever game at Spartan on the 4th. -
The ITAR rules covered pretty much all firearms, parts and accessories although some things have now been moved to a different category. Everything still needs an export licence it's just the cost and paperwork that varies. For the vast majority of US retailers it isn't worth the cost, the hassle or the risk of getting it wrong. It's only worthwhile for wholesalers and companies like Brownells who ship a lot of stock out of the US. If your desperate there are freight companies that will deal with exports but the cost is astronomical. Getting someone in the US to send stuff is a breach of the export regulations with the attendant consequences if caught. The only really feasible approach is to take a personal trip to the US (or find someone who's going), get them to buy whatever or pick it up, ditch the packaging and hope you don't get someone official at the airport who takes the kit back off you.

That's a whole other problem as I'm right handed for rifles and left handed for pistols. I've decided to leave the sidearm problem until I've got some experience. The only things I'm sure of there is that it has to be a 1911 of some sort and I hate thigh/leg holsters.
-
That's the plan. I figure that if I get into a fire fight that uses more than 300 rounds I probably brought the wrong gun. I tried doubling up the mag pouches but didn't really like the bulky feel of them so thought I'd try it this way first. The first one on the right is fairy easy to reach anyway.
-
The black belt and pouches are kit I already had. I'm trying really hard not to buy lots of stuff which I think might be useful until I've had a chance to try it out but there is so much temptation out there.😁 The belt is less than half the weight of what it used to be when loaded up with 12g mags.
-
Here's my first attempt at a loadout ready for April kickoff. Just went for the belt rig in the end. 5 mid-caps (room for 8), spare pouch for empty mags, pouch for drink bottle (or radio?), pouch for spare battery/tools?/snacks? Feel free to suggest improvements.

IPSC only officially recognises Action Air handgun as a discipline but some Action Air clubs do run 2 or 3 gun style shoots. If you search facebook for 'UKPSA Action Air' you'll find the people who do practical target shooting using airsoft guns. I'm not aware of any clubs that specifically run airsoft mini-rifle but I can't think of any reason it can't be done.

Welcome to the forum. It might depend on what you mean by 'practical' airsoft? If you mean IPSC/UKPSA practical then you need IPSC Action Air.

Just Thought I'd Share My First Ever Plunge Into a Gearbox
38super replied to 38super's topic in Electric Guns
For what it cost me I'm very pleased with it especially how sturdy it feels. It's set for 3 round burst which suits me fine and an 1100mah 11.1v Nuprol that fits nicely. It's cheap enough for me to be happy to mess about with and learn how it works. I thought it had all gone horribly wrong today when I pulled the trigger and nothing came out. It took a few moments to realise I hadn't wound the mag.🙄 There's nothing like a new learning curve to keep me entertained.😁 I've booked my first game for the 4th of April. Must try not to break the gun before then. Thanks for everyone's help. This is a great forum. -
Just Thought I'd Share My First Ever Plunge Into a Gearbox
38super replied to 38super's topic in Electric Guns
Thanks for the info. I'm running decent quality (Bad Wolf?) 0.30's chronoing at 300+/-5fps (not as consistent as it should be). I have put in ZCI plastic hop unit and 250mm barrel, and Maple Leaf MR/Omega combo and an SHS double o-ring nozzle. Accuracy is about 4 hits out of 5 on a 4 inch target at 15m but I've no idea how that compares to what I should expect. I can't do longer ranges at the moment to play around with the hop so I've set it a what seems to give the best accuracy at 15m. The mosfet only supports burst fire, binary trigger and trigger sensitivity, no pre-cocking unfortunately. I don't know if it's possible to upgrade the mosfet. Thanks for the Maths tips, that post should be a sticky somewhere. I teach Maths and it's always a surprise to students that you either can't or don't need to be absolutely precise. The 250mm barrel I've got should be about right with 0.3's or at least not far enough off to be a major problem. What this probably needs is some empirical testing to test the guidelines and give some idea of confidence intervals. -

Thanks for the very clear explanation. Much appreciated. I would more likely be looking for better trigger response and accuracy which I believe would mean a high torque motor and high speed gears if I understand things correctly. Can anyone tell me what cylinder type this is and what a suitable barrel length might be? The original barrel is 200mm but I've dropped in a ZCI 250mm so it'll be interesting to compare them.
