Old, fat and broken - loadout advice
The_Lord_Poncho replied to Loki7491's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I have had the SSX303 for around 3 years I think. My first game with it was in temperatures around 10C (i.e. not really cold, but not hot either), and I found it horribly inconsistent due to cool down of the mags. I then purchased a shot shell HPA magazine adapter from Airtac, a tank, regulator, and line (the aliexpress regulators+ lines are cheap and fine) - all in it probably added another £130 to the purchase price of the gun or so (and I use the HPA kit now with lots of other guns). That instantly solved the consistency issue. I have a cheap foam filled suppressor that I use with it - this is essential really if you want to make the most out of the gun - they are super quiet with one. Accuracy wise, I originally found it only 'average' - I added a tridos cnc hop arm and mini DC thumb screw which solved that. I now have a super quiet semi auto gun, that is accurate out to a good range, and I can perfectly tune to be bang on the sites DMR power limit. It's a really fun alternative to AEG's/Sniper rifles to choose for the odd game, and the quietness is a nice dimension that occasionally can be devastatingly useful. -

Are they like buckings, only smaller?

Have a mate with a SSX303 and he raves about it. I’ve looked at getting one to supplement my LCT G3 DMR which is beast to carry around all day. I liked the mag compatibility with the MK23 as well. It was a good gun from new but the upgrades available make it very accurate. Other popular option would be the Vorsk VMP2D as the DMR and a VMP1 for under 30m as they use the same mags as well.

But it says Andy McNab on it, that’s got to be worth £200 at least?

https://www.usedairsoft.co.uk/rif-s/electric-powered/andy-mcnab-ltd-edition-umarexvfc-am-22-aeg_i86615 Ahhhhh yes. Lets take a run of the mill AEG, give it a shit paint job, chuck some shite mags in and a cheap Chinese red dot, get it signed by an ex special forces soldier who was never issued the real version of the weapon (If you squint it looks like an HK416) and slap a huge price on it Aware these had a high RRP but still baffles me Tempting, but think I'll pass on this one

I have been involved in airsoft for a little over 30 years, between that and my day job, my body is old and broken and I have expanded in girth. But I have no intention of stopping, merely adjusting. I am of the opinion now that I need to be slower and further from the action, so sniping is on the cards (maybe DMR in a ghillie) I am looking at the Novvi SSX303 (a Mk23 carbine) as a primary and maybe a Mk23 as a secondary for mag.compatability. My issue is previous Novvi experiences have been bad. The SSQ22 (KC02 copy) was awful and I don't fancy the disappointment again. Does anybody have firsthand experience with the SSX303? Will it work as a DMR / sniper platform? Are there comparable alternatives i should be considering for a stealthy option?

Really sorry to hear about your loss. Depending on your location, Stack Up Airsoft may be worth speaking to as they often buy bundles. All of your kit may be more than they have room for at the moment but I'd imagine they'll take a decent chunk of it off your hands. Austeyr's advice on the percentage of retail is sound but you should bear in mind that Stack Up Airsoft will likely offer you less than 60-70% of retail because they want to turn a profit themselves. I hadn't been lowballed by anything I'd sold to them.

The VFC AK, genuinely, does not need any aftermarket internally. A few people have tried different barrels, buckings, etc in it but it doesn't give any benefit. Everything is steel as well. Only things I'd suggest is installing an X-ring in the nozzle, and of course an adjustable valve. First one gives better cycling in the cold, the latter should just be in everything it's that handy. You can get real parts for the AK if you wanna dress it up a bit btw. DandBMilitaria is UK based and has some nice stuff. I got a proper sling for mine, for example. The URGI can need some TLC but honestly don't fuck with it unless you have issues. There's mods to fix hop inconsistency and improve cycling, but it can be fiddly to get them set up.

If they're "brilliant out of the box" then why spend money to potentially make them worse? I've been running my VFC AK on .28g BB's and it's been dead accurate with nothing needing changed at all. As for the stock, add a shim and it'll stop any play. I believe Explosive Enterprises on youtube showed the dimensions for the shim to solve the issue

Heya all, recently bought the vfc 10.3 urgi and the ak74m. They are brilliant out of the box but maybe in the future I'd like to upgrade parts. Mostly internal and performance so just wondering what needs doing if anything? Also what stocks fit nice for the ak74? Mines a bit wobbly. Cheers Ryan

I've had both mws and vfc rifles among other gbb platforms. I've since sold all my mws rifles and kept buying vfc . I've not had an issue with accuracy and certainly nothing that couldn't be solved by a new hop rubber if I couldn't be bothered to wear in the stock hop

Tbf the DE he tested came off pretty badly in that one as well. Considering he's running them at about 2J towards the end, it's weird how much his guns underperform.
