Evening Don't suppose anyone has slapped one of these into your generally available brand AKs (CYMA, G&G, TM, E&L etc) Thinking about replacing the default cast G&G hop in my GKM. Worst case will just buy one and see for myself, but thought there might be some xp floating about - I can't be the only one fed up with the crappy little slide. https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/lct-rotary-hop-unit-for-ak-aeg?srsltid=AfmBOormEOVAtsd9Ni3W6kY6g8j776qtSpe6crPiKamhbHW4BqHma4wm

Interesting. I’ve long ignored propane due to the smell but if you cam get it without I may take another look.

There's some Airsoft gas that's silicon free, and it's generally better for the gun. The only place the silicon oil really goes is all over the hop and BB as it's fired. Modern guns use nitrile o-rings, which don't soak up silicon oil at all. They also just don't dry out like that, but do benefit from grease to help them slip into place to seal better. It was a common belief that silicon oil swells o-rings and helps them seal, mostly brought across from airguns which did historically use silicon o-rings. You can also get propane brands with basically no mercaptan additive. Bullfinch is the one I run.

( From personal experience here, so any expert advice very welcome!) I'm under the impression that there is a small amount of oil in every bottle of Airsoft specific gas sold - hence shake the can before filling. WE for instance highlight the fact it contains it on the front of the can I happen to have at the moment. Remember being told as a noob many years ago that standard Propane is a very 'drying' gas, so it makes sense to me to add a bit to avoid it drying out O rings and so on. But I believe very little is needed, on the order of one or two drops per litre. Have I got it wrong? (again lol). Also standard/camping gas propane contains a very smelly additive for safety (so that any camping stove type leaks are very obvious). The smell can get very unpleasant / nauseating in an enclosed area, so filling outside is a good idea. I don't know if its related to the additive but I started to notice a bit of a thin brown coating appearing on some valves and seals after a while. Anyone else experienced this? The MAPP / Yellow cylinder stuff just flat out didn't work when I tried it. May just be me of course! Overall I just had so many issues that I went back to just using the comercial stuff. Having bought a VFC LAR and their SA58 I might have to look into it again though! 😄.

Also, don't put silicone oil in your propane, there's no benefit

His titan nub was good, I’ve had two of his VFC NPAS’s and both have been awful. First one caused the replica to put out like 0.4J regardless of where it was set. Sent it back, got a replacement and it wouldn’t even fit without sanding down. Ended up getting a VFC one from china and it’s been fine. His easy loader is good too but you can’t really mess that up 😂

JP MWS NPAS owner here. They were awful and I went back to the RA-Tech one. All the way open and I couldn't get my mk12 to DMR power (it maxed at 1.6J, my limit is 1.88J). As soon as I put the RA-Tech one back in, I could get up to 2.5J with it fully open. However, I will admit his titan nub works really well... Maybe that's in the 10% 🤣

Overvoluming won't cause power inconsistencies, it'll be accuracy inconsistencies. Basically, if there's too much air, then what happens when the BB leaves the barrel is that there is still high pressure air behind the BB which then escapes with it and rushes past the BB, adding a bit of spin to the BB in a random direction depending on how the air happens to escape in that shot, which won't always be the same. The amount of spin is tiny and far less than what the hop up is doing, but any random spin is going to potentially create poor accuracy since we're firing a <0.5g spherical projectile at 2.3J or less and using backspin to abuse the Magnus effect to float them out further; it doesn't take much to impact our shots. I'm also not an expert physicist, just a long-time airsoft sniper who probably has a bit of the 'tism when it comes to long range airsoft shooting...
