Carni
I was just browsing the web as I usually do and I came across this contraption! http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&s...536&bih=764 Its a bow that fires paintballs... You have no idea how much I want that thing where I play! Anyone know if there is an airsoft version? I cant find it anywhere unfortunately
Tariq
Make one? Im going to be modding my malaysian blowpipe to fire BB's. Range won't be great but it will be an awesome kill if it were to ever happen
Alexb111
All you would need is a standard bow, a reasonable length tightbore barrel and a way of mounting it on the bow. Weld a circular stopper onto an 6mm wide aluminium rod so it won't fly out with the bb and voilà. Draw back, insert 1-10 bb(s) and fire. Not sure what the specs would be like and if it would even fire 10 bb's at once but wouldn't be ridiculously hard to manufacture. Bit impractical on the field tho. You'd also probably need a bit of padding at the stopper/barrel joining and a few finishing touches but essentially thats your build.
Supporters Airsoft-Ed Posted August 7, 2012 Supporters Share Posted August 7, 2012 I can't see it working. Arrows don't travel particularly fast as it is and bows give more of a shove than an instant transfer of energy.
Alexb111
I dunno, you can get bows with over 70lbs of force, through a 6mm barrel I'd expect a fair bit of power, especially if its similar to the video on Carni's link..
Supporters TPI Posted August 7, 2012 Supporters Share Posted August 7, 2012 i have one of these the novelty wear's off trust me and it fire's fairly bad for a bow and Marker Tempted to make a mod for it for airsoft now though
Tariq
Hitting the BB won't simply work. You'll need a tube with a piston inside. You draw the piston back and release, with the bow string acting as your gearbox spring.
kungfumonkey
im sure i read about a guy using a standerd bow with larping arrows in airsoft due to them being foam tipped there safe to fire at people why not look down that route and ask at your local site saves the whole trial and error thing
elobire
I can't see it working. Arrows don't travel particularly fast as it is and bows give more of a shove than an instant transfer of energy. Arrows travel incredibly fast From what the picture shows it looks like it forces the air out of the piston to shoot the BB. The problem with this is that a normal bow would not be using all of its available power because the BB probably would have left the barrel by the time the bow is back to the normal position. Larp style arrows have been used for re enactment. They are just normal arrows with a lump of rubber on the end. They would probably still seriously hurt someone if shot in the head from a 40lb bow though. Oh and you would never be able to draw back a 70lb bow without any training. But i think if you actually was to try this, it would work with a 30lb bow. (trust me, im an archery coach).
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted August 9, 2012 Supporters Share Posted August 9, 2012 Your main problem with this concept is going to be hop up. I've got an idea but it's intensely complicated and would require some precision machining. Still, if anyone goes ahead, pm me and i'll make some diagrams, because trying to explain without them would be almost pointless.
