Hi there, I'm Dave, I'm 18 and i've wanted to get into Airsoft for a while. I'm currently a member of the Army Cadet Force but I'm leaving soon to enlist in the Regular Army. Me and my cousin have been talking about setting up a small team for a while and the pieces have finally fallen into place. So now to why I have posted:

I have zero experience in the sport and I would just like some general advice from a few veteren players. So far I'm taking charge of the section as the only one who has any military knowledge, I.E Fieldcraft, having handeled a Weapon before. But I'd like to know of some reliable suppliers, good airsofting sites (places to play, not websites :)), and just some general advice :)

Thanks in advance :)

Dave

Welcome to the forums :)

You will see a lot of the well used/common retailers in discussion across the forum. If you use the search feature on here, someone will have likely spoken about that retailer before.

Same as above, where abouts are you from? Im from Huddersfield, but then Yorkshire is a pretty big place (and the best county as well, obviously! ;) )

Also, dunno if you know this, but some from the army may look down on your involvement with airsoft ('walt' gets thrown around quite a lot). Good luck though mate, what are you planning on joining? :)

welcome to the forum mate, where in yorkshire are you from?

Sheffield Fella :) Nice to meet you guys :)

and I'm looking at joining the Medical Corps as a CMT. Was looking at the Yorkies, but after my BARB results, I decided that getting 81 jobs open for me, maybe doing something with a trade was better off than being a bullet magnet in a pair of black taxi's ;)

Whey, another forum user from Sheffield, they're slowly building up.

We've got two sites in the city limits, Brit Tac in the old Transport Executive building behind Castle Market and The Stan up on Ruttland road in the old Stanley Tools factory, parallel to the Ski Village. Though The Stan is closing down soon, someone bought the factory =[

They're both indoor close quarters areas, nearest woodland site is at The National Paintball Games site, run by Yorkshire Tactical Airsoft, behind The Strines Inn off the A57 if you head towards Glossop, only about 10 miles from the City Centre.

Though I tend to drive out to Mansfield mostly. Let me know if you need more info, or want someone to play with.

Don't suppose you're a student at Sheffield Hallam by any chance? I'm trying to get an airsoft society up and running.

Unfortunatley I'm not.... I got kicked out of college for always being in the wrong place at the wrong time... Like on the end of a boxers fist, but thats a story for another time ;)

Me and my friends have been looking at the Strines site, and from what I can tell it looks pretty good. 100 Acres of Woodland, I'm guessing thats an okay size? My aunties ex boyfriend was a big Airsoftr, it was him who got me and my cousin looking at it was going to try and get us into it, but then things went wrong etc. But he has been trying to pass info on to me through my cousin. I have looked at Brit Tac and I thought it looked good, but my cousin wasn't too fond of the idea of a 5 story building (beat me as to why).

Thanks for the offer Ed, may take you up on that :)

The Strines site is pretty good, though it can be pretty windy because it's at the top of the valley edge, so it can get quite hard to shoot people at range, but that just adds to the challenge. The site is well thought out and it's easily big enough for a good day. They don't even come close to using the full 100 acres though.

If you want to give it a go then they're having a massive game day on Sunday the 27th, search for them on Facebook and leave them a comment or something, they only officially opened a few weeks ago so they're still having teething issues with the forum and stuff.

I've not actually been to Brit Tac yet, I prefer gaming areas with outdoor parts as well as indoor, so it never really struck me as sounding that good. But I'm sure it gets the adrenaline pumping. Apparently they have a completely blacked-out floor so people can get to use NVG gear and lasers/torches etc.

The Stan is an awesome site though, there are two buildings, a 2 story office complex and a 5 story factory complex, connected by a bridge on the 2nd floor and there's also a outdoor courtyard which both buildings are adjacent to, I'd urge you to try that out before it closes down, you can book in to their next game by going on the forums at op-tac.co.uk

As for coming along with me, I'm planning my next skirmish trip around the first weekend of June, so let me know if you're interested and I'll PM you the details nearer the time.
