Supporters Finius Posted April 13, 2012 Supporters Share Posted April 13, 2012 So I was browsing e-bay a few minutes ago, and I came across some offset RIS iron sights, which is an idea I have always LOVED in terms of real weaponry, and with me starting work on my M4 again, I was considering spilling the £40 for them (plus whatever a gas block would cost), but that got me thinking. Will I ever, on an AEG, realistically need to use offset iron sights if I've got a red-dot? I don't think so, provided it isn't magnifying, and being as this is a mid-rage AEG (standard internals, tuned for accuracy and not range), I won't need zoom at all, so standard flip-up iron sights should be enough, especially with a PEQ in the mix as well, oui? My logic is good...I think... CONVINCE ME I'M WRONG AFUK.
bigshep
Practically on an AEG they will make naff all difference. Aesthetically if you like them then go for it, as 90% of airsoft is looks anyway.
Supporters Airsoft-Ed Posted April 13, 2012 Supporters Share Posted April 13, 2012 Yeah, I'd say iron sights were more or less pointless, I've fired very few guns where the sights actually line up and a lot of the time when the irons are adjustable, they can never be moved into the right position to work. My M14 and M16 for example both fire above the aiming point and there's no adjustment to remedy that as only the back post on either rifle moves and to adjust the sights for shots going up, the sights need adjusting down and the back post can't go down far enough. Speaking of off centre sights though, have you seen those red dots that people mount at an angle off the side of the front RIS? People seem to forget that you can't aim your rifle on its side unless you're trying to shoot around a corner. I feel sorry for anyone spending money on sights for that reason, only to realise they're utterly useless and pointless once they try them out lol. In short, you are right in saying that you will never need to use off-set sights. Or even on-set sights for that matter. Walk your shots on target like everyone else Mr. Finius. Supporters M_P Posted April 13, 2012 Supporters Share Posted April 13, 2012 They're cool in real steel, in airsoft no- you're hop will not be stable once your gun is twisted anyway so there's not much point, still look cool though Next best thing is a docter or something ontop of your optics
