Also, worth checking Patrol Base in the run to Xmas, they usually have an AK variant in their sales. Last year it was a Cyma AK74SU, cm045a. For £145. Obviously quite a way off yet though. I've added a cyma AK recognition chart. It can be found by googling 'cyma ak models' and image search. They make loads of variants, just not that much variety in stock in the UK. Hope that helps, happy pewing!

As good if not better than my LCT out the box. However depending on what you want (heavier/nicer finish), you can pick up a 2nd hand LCT for the same price as most of the new Cyma AKs.

Getting there with my long AK/Romy Paratrooper RPK build. Added the dong handgrip (bought from firesupport) the current upper handguard is off my AK47, I'll keep my eye out to find one that matches the lower in colour. Next is to swap the receiver on my AK from side folder to under folder (always wanted one)

Not to be a debbie-downer, but is your priority producing content or amassing a collection of RIFs? You say you've got 23 or so RIFs, unless they were all donations I'd say that you have had the money to get a decent camera set up. Even just a mobile with a tripod is good enough. - that's all Negative Airsoft uses, just a phone suspended by a monkey grip thing above him while he works/berates RIFs. The best time to start anything is always 'last year or the year before'. But some get lucky in the algorithm, try and work out a niche in the airsoft YouTube world. There's enough licking shit-stains on the interwebs already. All the best, and do it for as long as you enjoy it.

For my RPK build I want to add a Romanian style Dong lower handguard. As an RPK one is as rare as hens teeth, a solution is to swap out the handguard retainer from an RPK one to an LCKM one, which would allow me to use the LCT AIMS dong handguard. Before I go down this route do any of you lovely people know if I will need any tooling beyond hand tools to do this? Mostly concerned with removing and re-seating the gas block. would I need a press for this?

Having bought the majority of the RIFs I've had on here/other second hand sales sites. I'd recommend trying to get hands on the RIF where possible, at a site is ideal so you can test fire/chrono. One thing that's annoyed me is receiving a couple with bits of mud/dust/grime etc - makes me think about how well looked after they were. Only pay via PayPal goods and services, especially if you're having one posted to you. You're unlikely to get batteries sent in the post, because they can be a 'hassle'. Expect to replace at least the Hop rubber on any second hand RIF straight away. The argument to buy new is 'warranty' but if you buy a new RIF and put a new hop unit/inner barrel etc in it, then it's not standard and I'd expect it to be out of warranty anyway. Also unless specified on a shops website for the specific RIF, the use of an 11.1 LiPo voids the warranty also. Like any product, things can just stop working/bits go unexpectedly. If you're after new and affordable, I think @RostokMcSpoons might recommend Double Eagle. Personally I'd recommend a Cyma AK, but obviously not an M4 platform. Oh and welcome to the forum.

Receiver change on my LCT RPK, going for a Romanian Paratrooper look, so the next part to source is an RPK dong lower handguard. And to pick up RPK mags/drum mag

If money was no object and anything is on the table: GBBR RPD. Being a bit more realistic, cyma internals in an LCT AK.

A bit hopeful I think, considering it's kombat branded trousers and shirt, generic high cut helmet, goggles and I presume a kombat/Viper balaclava. Seller also had a few RIFs for sale in the description. Which could get them in trouble with ebay.

From personal use, I'd go Source over Camelbak, I've popped a camelbak and not a source one yet. I personally don't pew with a Bladder on. I just leave a bag full of my admin at re-gen. My gripe with bladders is I feel they promote over hydration, and running the risk of flushing the body of salts etc. It can be a fine balance but half a litre per hour of 'arduous' activity is sufficient. With bottles you get the benefit of filling one with an electrolyte for later in the day games to keep you going. Sorry for the lecture, just my 2 cents.

Fair one. Well it definitely got me.

£50 p&p. Not so worried about the RIF price. But jeezus, it best be airdropped in for that much. PF48 is circa £13 for a 10 - 30kg package, just under a £10 now for sub 10kg.

Just recieved in the post today, a lightly used LCT RPK from the classifieds, pairs nicely with the LCT TIMS. (Please buy my things in the classifieds to fund it, thank you)

My current project bitsa AK boneyard 'build' The Moscow Metro Sweeper. Built from parts bought from the classifieds. Cyma cm28 receiver and stock internals TM AK105 front end and handguards Thompson 1928 wooden fore grip TM topcover. JG pistol grip. Missing a cocking lever/spring guide, the plate that sits on top of the gear box and a screw to hold the pistol grip in place. Water bottle DAYZ style SuPpReSsoR to hide the extra barrel length that protrudes from the 105 front end. (To be duct taped) Shoots well in the garden. Going to be a skirmish back up/loaner RIF or apocalypse LARP. Just needs a drum mag.

One thing you wish you knew coming into airsoft?
OTH21 replied to ODST's topic in General Discussion
Just to echo what everyone else has said really. - My G&G cm16 raider out performed my LCT AK out the box. So price isn't everything. - play how you want to play, find what you like doing before buying all the gnus. - you don't need all the shiny 'operator' kit to start with. Unless you want to look like a member of 24 SAS 'the Autists'. - try different sites. -

To be fair, the ebay listing will work out £2 cheaper than Patrol Base once you factor in their minimum postal charge being £5.99 iirc. Obviously only if you needed to buy a single dead man rag, which is unlikely. The seller is still hopeful though.
-
Am I wrong in thinking the G&G plus 3 random mags/padded rifle case should be at best £200? And that's being very generous.
-
After a sale of one Rif and a trade on another today, my modest collection now stands at: LCT TKMS with DB GP25, with launcher attached it is very front heavy. Cyma cm077 - this will be my skirmish primary. King Arms faux wood M1928
-
Recently upgraded LCT TKMS by Luke at Neg Airsoft. I've then replaced the original black lower handguard with LCT wood and replaced the black pistol grip with an LCT plum one. Kept the upper handguard, which took a bit of filing down to fit on top of the wood lower.

Bought an ASG Scorpion Evo from the classifieds, given a new coat of olive paint and looking forward to fielding it on Sunday at Imperium for my first game of the year. Not 100% keen on it's mag release catch.
