My son is at Bristol UWE and we checked if he could keep some pews in residence since they supposedly have an airsoft society but NO weapon shaped objects are allowed on uni premises. He didn't want to pursue it further so don't know if they have some storage facility.

The horror stories are mostly caused by people 'upgrading' one component and not everything then wondering why the steel munches their pot metal existing components.

I went to the new shop this month and I'm definitely impressed with the soft launch. It's several times the floor space of the old shop floor. They're due to complete the indoor 10m range but everything looks promising so far. Like a lot of industrial estates, parking was a challenge at the old location but there's plenty at the new site. I'm usually very happy with freebies and I got a complementary patch with my purchase.

In comparison to the above, just a rather modest real steel XM177/Car 15 slim handguard from Brownells as I'm fed up with the airsoft version that I previously slapped on the Cyma being really flexy and creaky. For something that you are in contact with all the time, it really detracted from the feel of the rif, and for £25 posted, I thought I couldn't go wrong. Might need to remove the internal heat shield to fit in the batteries though!

Welcome to the money pit! Don't worry about not having a social group to play with. You can make good acquaintances, if not new friends, through airsoft. I went to the majority of my games without people I met outside of airsoft. As Shamal said, having suitable eyepro is an absolute must. You can get very afforable eye protection that's suitable for airsoft, just don't be tempted by the cheapest thing you find on eBay that doesn't come from a known brand such as Bolle. In addition to boots with good ankle support, good gloves are a worthwhile investment - being shot in the knuckles with thin or no gloves can be much more painful (not long lasting though) than you might expect. Rental might seem expensive to start but think of it as an investment in the hobby. If the worst should happen and you decide airsoft isn't for you, rental will likely be a smaller loss than you would experience buying a two-tone, only to find you find yourself struggling to resell it for even close to what you paid.

Your university has been going down the draconian interpretation of what is permissible under PREVENT then. 'Proportionate' seems to have been left to the wayside a bit. When I was at university as a student, we had an airsoft club and thus were allowed a dedicated lockable space for club equipment - which is where most people in halls stored their stuff. Otherwise, it wouldn't be the first time i've seen them stored with permission in halls (worked for 2 separate University of Cambridge colleges and 4 universities total now) - just don't expect it. If you're storing them in locked hardcases, you are likely to be looked on more favourably by the staff especially if you make it clear that it is sports equipment. Halls don't stop you from storing Archery and Fencing equipment in them, provided you have appropriate storage considerations made.

London is rather large ... roughly which bit? Do you have your own transport? How far are you willing to go? Welcome to the site! The last thing to worry about is a social network of airsofters... I regularly go on my tod. Airsofters are a friendly bunch.

Can't add much more to the above other than, after the first year, our group from halls stayed together for the remaining years or private rental while studying; so it wouldn't have been an issue then. During your first year, if the above doesn't help, find a regular site that may be willing to keep your pews for you.
