DJMonty
Hello, everyone. Thanks for taking the time out to read this thread. As the title says, I am new to airsoft. The only experience with guns I've ever had is with an M39 Eagle (bought from here), and I've only ever had backyard battles with it. My first question is: Is my current gun suitable for airsoft? Why/Why not? What guns (available in the UK) should I be using? And, what is the average amount of money spent when starting out?
Supporters M_P Posted October 15, 2011 Supporters Share Posted October 15, 2011 no, you will struggle and find it hard going with that. read the guide in my sig- that should help you get started out ok

AF-UK Founding Member Deva Posted October 15, 2011 AF-UK Founding Member Share Posted October 15, 2011 Essentially you are likely to be looking at £150 minimum, and that's just the gun. There are a couple of decent ones for less, but availability is a problem.

And, what is the average amount of money spent when starting out? Look on a shop site such as Zero One, or better yet look through the various threads on this forum showing off peoples weapons and load outs, so you can get a good idea of what regular airsofters use. In general, most AEG's (assault rifles and smg's) are similar inside, its just what you like the look of on the outside. The more you pay for your stuff, the better quality everything will be. But you are in the right place anyway, just read around the forum. As for money, like Dev said. You can spend less on certain things, but you can easily spend a lot more. Nadrian
On a suggestion on a gun if you're starting out and want a nice starter gun you couldn't go wrong with a CYMA AK (any variant) if you just check it's one from the past few years you should be hunky dory, might be able to snag a nice deal on here with some mags and batteries for around or under 150-160. Just my two pence.
MAGPUL
Nadrian is right! My mates first higher end gun was the cm.028 ak-47, it only cost him £120 inc postage which is a great price. This was 4-6 years ago and is still used, it must of have around 15000 bb's through it and the only things which have changed on it is the battery and magazine... They are extremely good guns for the price and will take a beating. I would highly recommend one. Thanks
DJMonty
Thanks for the responses, guys. After reading Marksman's thread, I started looking for an M4. I found a version of one here for £49.99 (£55.98 inc. Postage). 40 round STANAG mag, electric, and one of the guns suggested for beginners. I've also been looking at some Pro Goggles (here). I will be (hopefully) going to an airsoft specialist shop that a family friend runs, to see if I can pick up some ESS V12 relatively cheap. DJMonty
Okay, thanks guys. I'll check out Zero One and some other sites. I'll post a gun or two from each site I go to.
Nadrian
JBBG are plinkers and thats it, the only AEGS they have are way overpriced. just go for the CYMA AK as suggested or a JG M4 (enhanced edition was good from what i have gathered) and avoid the mentioned website. Also set you're budget over 50 as it just won't cut it. Go as a rental a few times see if you enjoy the sport, try out the different weapons out maybe ask a few regulars nicely if you could have a feel of the guns in the safe zone and get you're bearings. -Nadrian
DJMonty
Thanks, Nadrian. Here are some guns I've come across from various websites. G&G Combat Machine AK-47 (Zero One). This doesn't come with a battery or charger, could someone please tell me what type of battery I need for this gun? SRC G36C (Wolf Armouries). This also does not come with a battery or charger, may someone please tell me what battery would be best for this gun? How good are those guns? They're both recommended in Marksman's thread. Nadrian
They are both good platforms for starting the combat machine being a starter gun for most, but browse around for a CYMA ak if you can, they are performance and durability the best bang for buck i have ever seen
DJMonty
I've been looking for a CYMA AK, I've been unable to find on in the UK. Here's hoping the airsoft shop nearby has some, or knows where to get one!
MZKaleem
i know where to get one! From me although me and my dad have put some effort into making this gun look and function the way i wanted so i may keep it, but go to red 1 airsoft and email him asking for a quote on CYMA AK47's because he orders stuff in. DJMonty
Thanks, Elite. Just gone to their website, their based about 20 miles from me, which isn't bad. I'll email him, thanks. EDIT: Just phoned him, he said generally anywhere from £180 to £220, so looks like I've got some saving to do. Perhaps it's time to start breeding Freshwater Angelfish again. Nadrian
Monty would you be ok with second hand? plenty come around on here for a cheap price with all the extra things you need.
DJMonty
Second hand would be fine. I've been browsing the classifieds on and off all day, but everything I see is currently above my budget. I'll probably be getting a decent gun after Christmas time, perhaps sooner if everything goes to plan with the Angelfish.

Nadrian
I hope that all goes well, i'm just wondering have you been to a site renting a gun? -Nadrian
DJMonty
Angelfish, Craig. I breed fish as my main source of income, and right now there's a market for Angelfish. And I probably should have mentioned this earlier: I'm 14. I won't be able to buy from this site, as nobody would know if it's someone over 18 talking to them on my behalf, or myself pretending to be them. Nadrian: I haven't as of yet, but on Saturday I'm going with my friend and his dad. Not sure where, but I'll be using one of their spare guns and some spare kit. Nadrian
As long as it's a two tone and you have a parent gifting it you, with no monetary exchange im sure that's legal. (Correct me if i'm wrong marksman) just don't try and buy guns personally as the seller would be in the most trouble and give a bad impression of the sport in general (general precaution don't think you will). -Nadrian EDIT:Can't believe i put two town -.-
