Intermediate Gun

Good afternoon all, my step son is currently running a cyma M4, brought it a while ago at around the £120 price point, so as imagined, the spec is not so good.

He will be looking to get an upgrade at Christmas and had around £150-£200 to spend, roughly, what would be the best gun in this price range for a decent spec offering. I appreciate the help in advance.

Why not spend that money on a decent hop rubber and motor ect

The cheapest CYMA M5xx range has toytown plastic: they're good candidates for throwing in the bag as a backup or loaner, but I wouldn't spend money on them, unless it's to learn teching.

£200 gets you into the Double Eagle M9xx range. Plastic too, but nicer than the CYMA, and with a rotary hop, quick change spring, and a decent fire control system.

That said, even the cheapest Specna Arms FLEX units have all those features now as well.  That's quite remarkable value for money, although they're less of a known quantity than the Double Eagles.

If you want a metal body, you're probably looking at the Specna EDGE range, but then you're paying more for fewer features, and a metal body that doesn't feel (or work) any better than a decent plastic.

Right now Patrol Base have the Double Eagle M904E for £149.99 (if you have UKARA, add on £10 for two-tone), which at that price is very good value (I bought one on Sunday for a friend).

However, I don't know what batteries you're currently using for your "CYMA M4" as using a Double Eagle M900 with anything other than 11.1v is a big compromise as the trigger response is sluggish on 7.4v.

That's a good point, I'd definitely be budgeting for lipos and a decent charger.

Also second the notion of something Double Eagle flavoured with the Falcon Fire mosfet, they're class and pretty much unbeatable for the money unless you fancy fucking around and tinkering. My mate bought a M904E around two and a half years ago when we first started playing and it's sat as old reliable the entire time, never missed a beat and even survived me when I had no idea what I was doing (because turns out, buying epic upgraded G36s off used airsoft doesn't mean it'll work or be any good).

If you think he'd fancy something a little more SMG shaped, the UTR-45 is another solid choice by Double Eagle and pretty much has the same internals, although the mags can be a little bothersome with regards to carrying as they're UMP flavoured and come with the quirks as such.
