The hi capa is heavy because of the metal frame, the 1911 because of the metal grip inserts, and the M9A1 because of the grip inserts and a metal weight on the inner barrel.

What accounts for the weight of the PX4? It is one of Marui's heaviest pistols.

The magazine.  With it out its a very light gun

The 2 part inner chassis and hammer spring housing look to be significant lumps of cast metal.

Considering it's one of my smaller pistols, there is a fair amount of weight in pistol itself. I think the weight is evenly distributed between the pistol and the mag. 

 

The lightest pistol I have sans Mag is my FN5-7. Even with the Guarder kit, it's incredibly lightweight. The mags are CHONK though, so it makes sense.
