Hi all,

Currently in the process of cutting off the side and underside rails of my beloved ICS CXP 16 L.

My idea is to then drill out MLOK slots, I have the dimensions ready and the tools good to go... however, I do not know if MLOK slots must be a certain depth??

If anyone knows (the thickness of your rail essentially) that would be great!

And for anyone about to say "just replace the rail", I would if the CXP rail was not the only 416 style rail that can fit my gun :(

However it will look very nice with a nice sleek design and an integrated rail suppressor after I'm done!

(Thoughts welcome too!)

My recce is m-lok, so I could measure it for you when I get home. However.... I'm finding m-lok compatible attachments are rather more expensive than the alternatives

If you could check the depth that would be brilliant, and I assume I'm right in saying the other measurements are 32mm x 7mm and an 8mm gap between slots?

Yes they are pricey, which is why I'll be leaving 2-3 rail slots at the front of each side for torches, and "maybe" underneath for a grip, however more likely I could mod my own grip to be MLOK (or buy a rail segment).

There is a document from Magpul but the link on their site is broken!

Found this too but it was just the depth I needed to make sure if they had to be a certain depth :)

I'll try and find the instructions that came with my mlok grip. It's got a bit about how to set up the screws I think that might have the depth.

That could prove rather useful too mate cheers.

Just measured the rail around 3mm too so I think think itll all work out.

worst case I cut more off or add more with some metal tape or something :)

Can't find them but if you google "installing m lok accessories" there's a link to the PDF via the midway USA site.

Left rail downsized and ready to drill!

Finish was better than I was expecting and very easy.

More updates to come...

  • 3 weeks later...

New update on what it’s going to look like.

Side and bottom rails removed and smoothed.

Black silicone to hold the suppressor to the rail spacer (removable).

paint it all black and hey presto!

Really loving the unique look of the spacer!

Also honest opinions please, is this hideous or does it work? (Colour will be off as it’s a crap photoshop job):

Nothing wrong with a bit of black and tan.
