Hi all!

So I have an M4 and have stuck a Holosight on top and works pretty damn good...so my question is...

Do I need my rear iron sight or can I take it off?

Thanks in advance!

If it can come off then go for it but don't bin it

I still use iron sights on both my M4's but have aimpoint magnifier on my G36C

Normal practice in real life is to keep your iron sights and co-witness, but normally the heights are a problem on a lot of Airsoft kit unless you buy very carefully, so many just remove and retain the iron sights.

I also like to have canted iron sights for if there is an optic problem but these dont work on Airsoft weapons because they dont shoot straight enough on a tilted weapon.

Take it off if you won't use it, but don't get rid of it.

Ideally, your dot would be at the same height above the rails as your iron sights when you take aim, as many first person shooters do with an m4, this is what's meant by co-witness, but it doesn't always work out as airsoft gear is rarely built to the same dimensions.

Yeah this is what I thought...I'm going too take it off and try without it and see how I get on!

I can always stick it back on if not...simples!

Thanks!

I replaced my iron sights with flip up ones so if the batterys go flat, I can flip them up to use them so there a back up

In theory your iron sights are there as a back up in case your optic goes wrong.

There's a good Q&A here: https://markowenseal.wordpress.com/weapons/

Where Mark Owen answers questions on SEAL weapons. He mentions not using Iron Sights because optics are so reliable and he's usually running a laser anyway.

Plus as above, they are usually a pain to co witness on airsoft kit due to wonky tolerances :)
