AirsoftGeo
So I want to improve the range of my gun. I know about tweaking the hop up but what inner barrel is good? and what hop rubber is good? also are there any other improvements that can be made to improve the range? sorry if this is in the wrong section
Supporters Monty Posted December 31, 2013 Supporters Share Posted December 31, 2013 For the bucking, go for: Madbull, G&G (Green rubber) Systema or Firefly. A tightbore would help, but they only seem to increase the fps a bit. Also, install a H nub as that will help with keeping the bb's more stable. Supporters Ian_Gere Posted December 31, 2013 Supporters Share Posted December 31, 2013 Installing a tightbore can drastically improve the FPS. For eg, a gun with a medium-long barrel of 455mm will gain about 30FPS by going from a stock inner barrel to a 6.03mm TBB and may gain as much again by going to a 6.01mm. The shorter the barrel, the less you gain; the longer, the more. So when I upgraded my SVD, which achieved 440FPS with its stock 150 spring, from a stock 590mm barrel to Madbull 6.01x590mm, I had to drop the spring to an Element M135 to get the gun under 500FPS (494+/-5 to be exact) because it was firing at somewhere around 535-40 with the stock spring. Don't get too far sucked into the voodoo of the hop. Yes, a good hop set-up is necessary to impart sufficient backspin for a BB to reach out as far as its momentum will take it, but there is a limit to how much backspin a BB can take before it is over-hopped and rises off target too much to be useful, which any reasonable rubber will do so long as it's sticky enough for the ambient temperature - in the UK we generally need the stickier ones, the 50degree, but bear in mind that stickier rubbers wear out quicker and you could go with a less sticky rubber pressed more onto the BB (for heavier BB's though there comes a point where this is no longer an option). So as long as the chamber, barrel, and rubber fit together airtight and as long as the air seal nozzle and rubber mate well, the momentum is the thing... using the same hop set-up, more FPS = more range, but also more FPS = flatter trajectory to targets closer than long range, which makes accuracy easier. Hop set-up can also help accuracy by stabilising the BB in the centre of the barrel and also with measures to prevent one side of the BB from being hopped more than the other. So, using a Fishbone Spacer from Madbull, an H-Nub from Element, or a steel H-Nub from Falcon centres the BB's - that is in order of softness / heavier BB's need a harder nub. Another way to go is with a rubber that has a split nub built in like a PDI W-Hold, a Falcon Double Point, or a stock CYMA. So far my experience is that you can't combine a split nub rubber and an h-nub spacer successfully, but I haven't tried it with every combination. My feeling is that a Madbull fishbone spacer may work with a PDI W-Hold bucking and as soon as I find the 'kin time, I'm going to try that out in my SVD, although I suspect that I will need to modify the fishbone with a piece of steel wire through the middle axially. A pairing I can definitely recommend for AEG's firing 0.2-0.25g BB's is Prometheus Purple Soft Rubber and Element H-Nub. So to recap: get your FPS consistent up around 5FPS less than your fav site limit (to allow for the difference ambient temperature can make), choose a hi-tech rubber or trad rubber and funky nub/spacer, and also keep your barrel clean. Mike636
Pro win cnc hop up chamber , added around 50 fps so the airseal must be tighter than a politician at Christmas. £22 delivered from Ebay - bargain!
Supporters sp00n Posted December 31, 2013 Supporters Share Posted December 31, 2013 have you tried a heavier weight of BB? I found i had a major increase in range when i went from 0.2's to 0.25's (but i did also change bb brand, so that may have been it) on my CM16, on my SR25 i got even better range with 0.3's but my FPS dropped by alot (i cannot remember the figure, but its a standard gun with 341fps on 0.2's)
