Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 Well that's what I would have done too, Chris, but it would nag at the back of my mind that maybe there's a lot higher pressure involved when the gun is working normally... It's a puzzle alright! As to the fps thing, all things being equal, more velocity = greater range, or take it up with Isaac Newton. I'm sure that the right choice of BB and a well set up hop can increase the range of say a 300 fps gun to equal that of an average 350 fps shooter, but a well set up 350 fps gun will shoot further... FACT.

FACT. Without being rude to the ones who said it....thats why I have just ignored those exact posts. People just hear'say and repeat it. If one car travels at 300mph and one travels at 350mph which will stop first? hmmmmm The hop up test would have shown any leek if there was one I think depsite any pressure, the nozzle may be a different point though. Not sure how to create a similar back pressure to be honest unless I take out the full unit and fire blocking up the ends...... thats all I can think. Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 Oh I don't intend to be rude to anybody, Chris mate. However I got into this thread to learn something that is going to have financial implications for me, because I intend to fit a mock silencer as a barrel extension and then either a 509mm or 590mm tight bore barrel to my AK. I then want to fit a silent piston head and cylinder head, to make it seem like the suppressor is actually doing something. However, it may need a bore up cylinder instead, if the fps drops - then again, I have an ICS Turbo 3000 motor in there so maybe I'd be better off with helical gears and a stronger spring... I agree with you about the "blow test" on the seal between hop and barrel, but I'm not sure how you could test the nozzle by firing with the gun in peices to watch what happens. I think there's a good chance of breaking something by even trying! I do still think that testing the new parts separately is the way to find out what's causing it, if that's possible. Can you test the new barrel with the old hop rubber? Or the new hop rubber with the old barrel?
Hudson
Could it not be that the Madbull barrel has a (minutely) smaller outer diameter than the old barrel? Then you wouldn't have as good an air seal around the outside. When you inserted the barrel and bucking into the hop unit; did it seem to go in easier than the original one? rschris
Exactly Ian, im after the best I can for the money so want my investment to be worth it.... Would I recommend the madbull...YES without a doubt, accuracy is fantastic! Just need to get fps sorted and I will be happy. Hudson- It went in exactly the same so I would say that there was no problem with the fit if im honest. looks to be exactly the same amount of space. The bucking is a sytema bucking so doubt that there is a problem here either. Hmmmm, this will continue the tests me thinks.
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 Have you got your own chrono then Chris?
rschris
Did have, but broke it so just after another now.
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 Yeah, I'm starting to think that I enjoy tinkering with airsoft guns enough that a chrono would be worth getting - I keep seeing them on eBay for £50. Do you know if they're any good? And... how tf did you break yours? Testing a canon or something?
rschris
I wish it was that exciting!! No, i knocked it off on to the floor which was promptly followed by my 20kg arm weight and crushed it to death. if you mean the £50 Big dragon ones, this is what I used I enjoy tinkering now after fearing it for so long...so chrono will be worth it. Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 I meant this one but when I just searched I spotted this Fidragon. There's another Fidragon as well but no big dragon. Is this what you meant? Oops! Blind as well as daft, me! Do you mean this?
rschris
This one mate http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Airsoft-LCD-Disp...=item2ebea0d31c But I think the Xcoretech is slightly better, bbut they do the same job i guess.
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 Actually it'll have to wait a fair while because I've just bought a £400 gun! My g/f gulped at that news and asked, reproachfully, "Does that mean I won't be seeing much of you then?" She lives in Manchester and I'm in Nottingham so the simple answer is "probably", but I think I got away with smoothing it out... only time will tell. But £50-odd on a box of tricks that doesn't do anything funky... no, that she won't wear!
rschris
I find the 'it was cheap and im getting rid of this for it' normally helps! I know its a cost but its also very handy
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 14, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 14, 2012 Yeah, I want one for sure. I think I might add it on when I get the barrel upgrade etc. Easier to explain away...
rschris
Well stripped everything, re-built and chrono'd today.....back to 348FPS consistant....accuracy fantastic! Dont know what the problem was but seems all sorted now
Supporters Liam Porter Posted June 16, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 16, 2012 Maybe it was something simple like barrel not in the hop unit all the way, making a small air leak, or the rubber or nub wasn't aligned quite right.
Supporters M_P Posted June 16, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 16, 2012 Or magic?
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted June 16, 2012 Supporters Share Posted June 16, 2012 I'm glad it turned out that the Madbull didn't cause a permanent drop, but you know what? It's bloody irritating to not know exactly what the problem was...
rschris
It is irritating but I would guess on the barrel not all the way in the hop as seemed to mate alot better this time. alls well that ends well. Have my power and distance back so im happy
