Elementary question, but how do you attach AK scope mounts to the AK like this one? W_7215.jpg

I understand that there is something that goes onto the gun first, but what is it? How do you attach it? And does it generally come with the mount?

i.e. I am looking to by a scope mount like this, how I mount?

Does your reciever look like this? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...ST-89-01131.jpg

Or like this? http://www.airsplat.com/Images/ICS-32-RAS-AK.jpg

If it is the first one, you need either a new receiver or someone else on here knows a solution.

Other wise, I'm sure you just slide it onto the receiver attachment and then screw it up. if that makes sense

Yes my receiver is like the first one, but I've never seen one like in the second, at least not in store, I've seen it in videos of people putting on the side mounts, but it provides no clue as to where they got such a device

Actually a quick search on Evike revealed that you can buy the mount http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?cPat...oducts_id=35253

I only wonder now if I can find it on a UK site, or at least somewhere closer, and how easy it would be to mount to the receiver

If all else fails I can always use a simple screw on mount for the front of the receiver

I'm not sure you can buy the side mount on it's own, but it sometimes comes with the scope mount you want. Even then, it's a complete faff to fit since an AEG receiver walls are very thin so you don't have much to screw into without hitting the gearbox.

Better off getting one like this, unless you really want a more realistic one:

http://www.ebairsoft.com/metal-scope-20mm-rail-p-59.html

It screws onto the bottom of the receiver. It should just be a case of undoing a couple of screws on the underside just in front of the magwell, holding this mount in place then screwing it all back on again.

Or this one is very good and easy to fit along the upper receiver, but out of stock:

Here's a pic of it on my old AK:

Those are the ones I am more thinking of buying, thanks for the info though about screwing them in, I really don't think I want to mess with that and risk hitting the gearbox

could always try one of these as long as your have a smooth top cover screws easily to the body

this is the thing that screws to the side of the rxer. However it require holes to be drilled gearbox removed and screws put in from inside of rxer

Yeah, something I've been wondering for a couple of weeks since I got my AK...

Now I know, I'm not best pleased!

Ive been considering 1 of these, but I'm concerned that the weight high up attached to the top cover may make it wobble after a while and perhaps come off if the gun got a good thump during skirmishing.

I was thinking about one of those as well, I suppose when you go China-softing anything is possible, I was originally thinking about getting one of those with the M16 Carry handles on top..

I think it's safer just to get a screw on like some of the previous ones posted

Yeah mate, you might be right. Can't say I've much experience, but my AK is Chinese & so far it seems a lot better than I'd been led to expect. I just don't like the look of those mounts that screw on underneath forward of the magwell... I've got to have it to bits in the next few days so I can fit a Variable Velocity Device, to use the gun for CQB as well as woodland without having to swap springs, so I'll get to have a look how much room there is for bolts to fit the type you started the thread about.

well if you do decide on buying the one in front of the mag well then here is one available from a good shop that is a little bit closer to home http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/details1.asp/P...scope-mount.htm

I've had both the front screw on and the side rail on my old RPK. The front rail is quicker to fit but I found it was set a bit too far forward to take a red dot comfortably, although a proper telescopic sight wasn't such a problem, just a bit of overkill on an AK.

The side mount did give a better position for the red dot, plus it was very quick and easy to remove, with just a flick of the side lever if you needed to get in to change batteries etc. However, you need to be very sure of exactly where you mount the side rail, as it will look crap if you put it in the wrong place. But it will fit reasonably securely even on a plastic receiver, although metal does provide a firmer fix.

So... after having my AK to bits my opinion is:

I'll not be bothering unless/until I get a good quality metal lower receiver.

There's barely any space in my nylon receiver to fit bolts so they'd have to be the type that fits into a recess or countersink, but the plastic just doesn't seem strong enough for that. Both of the places where the sling mount and trigger guard attach to the receiver are reinforced with metal plates inside, so I reckon the manufacturer wouldn't put such reinforcement in unless it was needed. There definitely isn't enough room for a plate and bolts, no way, no how, thank you and good night!
