Gun versus Gear

Just something I've been thinking about recently after a conversation I had with a course-mate.

Which came first for you, your gun or your loadout?

Did you get the gun first, and build your loadout around that ("I have an M4, so I'll go X unit..."), or did you already have the gear and get the gun after that? ("I already have German camo, so I'll buy X gun...")

My course-mate Andy bought his L85, simply because he already had most of the 2001-era British army kit, and it made sense to him, to get a gun to match his kit.

Whereas my team mate Rob buys his guns first, and then makes a loadout - he bought his first M4 before he decided he wanted to dress like an American, and he bought his AK before he wanted to be like the British PMC team from The Hurt Locker

How many of you actually buy things with a clear image of what you want to achieve?

Or do you just buy random collections of things and hope for the best? (I think that's my way of airsoft  )

I think this is a very interesting question, my loadout at the minute is "Freedom Fighter" basically because I've just started. My RIF is a m4. Again because I've just started, and wanted a common variant whilst I learn the intricasies of airsoft stuff.

But I think my my choice of loadout will always follow my choice of weapon.

Also I thought the PMC team in hurt locker were using Galils?

Yeah thats me too, through tbf most of my gear is what i find comfy and looks cool, and my guns are whats comfy (ergonomics etc), looks cool and then if its decent.

I never made a conscious effort to get anything to be honest.

But then I bought my SOCOM M9 and then stealth/swat/black gear unfolded....just happened but it serves its purpose.

Good question though, interesting to see for some people....

Ah yes I stand corrected. Also I love Ralph Fiennes mad half-cackle as he guns down the fleeing prisoners and says something like "It did say dead or alive!"

Back to the topic, I have noticed that the gear I'm planning to order is mostly OG, with black soft shell, poloshirt, cap and gloves. Not sure I'm aiming for a particular loadout, just fairly consistant colour kit. Not really bothered about camo, as my local sites are mostly fibua and CQB.

Although if I could afford a Galil, I would be tempted to be to do a movie loadout based on Benicio del Toro's character from 'Way of the Gun'.

Guns

Bought my gun first, already had some DPM around. But i kinda got more kit around the same time as the gun.

I've based my stuff from a few games / films though.

British Soldiers (V for Vendetta)

Stargate Atlantis

Black Mesa Security Force (Half Life 1)

Random Black or DPM Kit

I bought the Gear to match the G36, but recently bought a MP7 to match the Black Mesa kit.

i buy my kit with one thing in mind " it must hold every thing i have and more" every thing after that is a side thought but then again mhy load outs weigh around 20kg not counting the AEG and pistol's also on a side note the film you mentioned will not be spoken of again understand yes? good!

I got my gun first. M4 just because it seemed like a sensible starting point. Im now going through mtp camo and getting bits and bobs.

I've always been more about the guns, I know next to nothing about replica chest rigs and plate carriers etc.

I'd love to build up a proper British Army load-out with all of our issue weapons and all of our issue gear, but the cost of it all is a massive barrier and I'd much rather fiddle with guns than clothing lol.

I mean I'm going for the Brit look with my L85, got the RIS and all that and I wanted a CO2 Sig as a sidearm, but there isn't one apart from the X5, so I'm going for an MEU. I'll probably start working on my M16 to try and pair it with something more suitable... But I'll still probably not get the USMC gear...

It's all a little pointless really, there's a million things I'd love to do, but money is an extremely limiting factor, I'd bet money on me being able to spend an entire lottery win on airsoft and still not have everything I want.

In short, it's all about the guns and the realism of the guns. Gear, camo and kit comes second, if at all.
