I can have one gun (well, maybe two). Well, on top of all my other guns. But I can't play airsoft with them. In a fit of pique, I sold everything earlier this year, after I had decide to headbutt a rock, split my head open and break a couple of ribs whilst playing. However now, I am feeling the need to play again. I first got into airsoft because I bought an M4 to use with my eldest son in the garden. And after spending thousands and moving onto the real stuff, the cycle has come back around with my youngest. He wants to shoot and I want to teach him. The garden we have now is perfect. I would like: Something to plink in the garden with and teach my son/s Capable of auto/burst fire Excellent range & accuracy Hi cap mags Not gas, (but not averse to HPA) Decent build quality Reasonably light I don't want a DMR - I want something that comes in under the 350fps limit, but works its nuts off there in terms of range and accuracy. I like being sneaky - but I had come to loathe the slow fire rate of bolt action, even though I loved my SRS. I'd like something where I can play sneakily, but can also hit out at range. I've probably missed some stuff out. In terms of upgrading, I'm fine working with gas guns, hop chambers, changing barrels etc, but have no clue at all about electrics. Suggestions most welcome. Oh, I forgot - the second gun - a decent small pistol, because my littlest has tiny hands and I'd like to be able to do pistol drills with him. TIA ?

Help identifying a grenade used at a recent game

If you haven't already, try asking on the HQ banter FB page - the owner of the grenade is probably on there and will be able to answer more easily than us ? -
Does a real firearm license allow me to not be a UKARA registered player?
sonofsammo replied to Mooseuk's topic in UK Law
The challenge with any kind of reform, is that generally reform means further limitations. They've recently just banned MARS and lever release rifles even though a) they have never been involved in crime and b)they have never been involved in crime. Literally any further legislation will be used to take more classes of firearms away from us. It's a shame the firearms community is such a disorganised, compartmentalised shower of shit when it comes to defending itself. -

If you have a FAC, you have to state, in advance what you are requesting. It doesn't give you an authority to purchase anything that's not on there. It's funny that the people who have mentioned it's ridiculous that they can't buy a RIF have not lamented the fact that they are not permitted to buy shotguns either. To buy shotguns (unless they are section one and you have slots for them on your FAC), you have to have a shotgun certificate, which is entirely separate from a Firearms Certificate. And easier to get. And nobody seems to have a problem with that. "But, but, if I have a FAC, surely I'm alright with a shotgun?" Sure - go and get the right paperwork. Same thing applies for buying a RIF - If you want it, just jump through the hoops. It sure as chuff works out cheaper if you do! - Silverback SRS £450 & 2.5p per shot - Desert Tech SRS £6000 & £4 per shot. -
Errrrr.... I already play as a sniper lol (out is that played?). Accident/running were due to location of respawn and proximity to enemy. Normally I don't go near em!

Funny you should mention that I've done the course. And I've got a vector... There's just nowhere near me that does it ?

I think the time has come to hang up my hat. My last game was supposed to be a test, to see if I enjoyed playing any more, as I've been moving more toward real firearms recently. Something of a mixed result came of it! The little I played, I enjoyed. But truth be told, I'm old, fat and knackered and in my current state, as demonstrated by my accident, I'm a bit of a fucking liability. If I'd been fitter, not sure I would have fallen. But who knows? I'm going to stick around, as I like the banter, and you never know, there may be that one gun that comes up that persuades me that I really need to shoot someone with it! My enormous thanks to everyone who has helped, advised and taken the piss over the last few years. Particular thanks to @rocketdogbert, without whom I would undoubtedly have not bought as many guns ? The only thing for me to do is pull my finger out and stick everything that's left up for sale. But fuck me, what a ball ache! I frigging hate selling stuff. That's possibly why I've not admitted defeat before - can't face the bear pit of the classifieds. SoS p.s. my son's chosen a username for himself and I can't stop laughing.... He's Sonofsonofsammo ?

What's the hop unit? And how much hop has been applied? What does it read with a .2 and minimum hop?
-
If there isn't, there should be. Or at least a minimum membership time. I've just joined a few shooting forums and they have a month minimum before you can post in the classifieds. Which on the one hand was annoying, cos I'd joined to flog stuff (hypocrite, I know!), but on the other hand, I can totally see the value of that as it's got me involved in the community. People who only join to flog stuff serve no purpose to AFUK as a community. They also present a greater risk, as they can create a @fuckwit1992 username, flog their tat and fuck off into the distance before anyone's the wiser...

How many cognitive behavioural therapy practitioners does it take to change a lightbulb? Somewhere between 1 and 10.
-
How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb. One, but the lightbulb has to really want to change...
-
How many stupid people does it take to change a light bulb? Five. One to stand on the stool and hold the bulb, the other four to turn the stool round. I went to give blood the other day. I'm not fricking doing it again. Just too many questions. Where did you get it from? Whose is it? Why is it in a bucket?
-
I'll bear that in mind. I sneezed earlier and thought I'd frigging broke em all! So have become very averse to sneezing, coughing, laughing.... Don't fancy pneumonia as well though lol

I can seriously empathise. How long did it take them to mend?

My darling son got my SRS out to check on it properly. And hurrah! It has survived completely unscathed. As has the scope! So sacrificing myself was worth it in the end ?
-
Absolutely gutted bud - -and on opposing teams to boot! I still haven't gathered the courage to properly check the SRS over. I think the scope is fucked, but that's alright cos it's a vortex lol. And there he is! The man himself! Thanks to this chap I wasn't pissing blood all over the game area making a mess ? Thanks again dude.

I was a bit gobsmacked when I found out.

Here's a vid giving the guy who helped me's perspective. I'm disheartened with what he reveals about some of the other players https://www.instagram.com/tv/CbYO7xxjEPY/?utm_medium=copy_link&fbclid=IwAR3U0iYoViaGL72Hj1gqgM4ICjM7hQPgiZwQiYwl6CYvHrdSWwz9cyKk0Jk ?

Remember.... you asked for it! ? First pic is contents of my cap immediately afterwards. It looked like one of my kids had emptied a pack of ketchup in there! Second is my bonce, obviously. Third is my ribs.

Well, I've just had mine! I was playing at YTA Borderlands, near Huddersfield,. It's a really nice site (from what I got to play) and the marshals are excellent (very professional, thank God!). It's a sniper's paradise, but not at the expense of everyone else. I was working with two other snipers as part of a pincer movement on an objective, but I got slotted by a counter sniper. All good, I went to a respawn point - but the respawn point was very close to an enemy held objective. I had seen two leave and rather than retreat to a safe distance, I took a shot. To be met by a barage of return automatic fire. They couldn't range me, so I spun on my heels and ran, just as their team members were piling out of the objective to join in. There's me and running and never the twain should meet. The safety brief told us to watch out for the rocky terrain and that things were unstable underfoot. I'd even listened to the safety briefing, as I'd never been there before. However, this information eluded me whilst "running for my life". I was at full tilt, tripped on a rock and went flying. As I was flying through the air I had one thought "Must. Protect. Rifle." And so I twisted to angle the rifle away from the ground. Stupidest fucking thing I've ever done. Instead of twisting it away from me, I ended up landing on it and as my head went down it cracked a rock. I lay there, unmoving, staring at the tree canopy and blue sky beyond and watched as it swirled. I was still being shot. Which was nice. But didn't have the air in my lungs to shout anything. And I couldn't raise my arm. It felt like they were adding insult to injury, so I managed to stick one middle finger up. Unfortunately, rather than thinking something was wrong, or accepting my arm was in the air, they took it as a taunt and continued to fire ? Eventually, I think I heard someone say "is he actually alright?" and they came over to check on me. The first person to arrive was a cracking player called Alan, who just happened to be a first aider. He checked me over and between them they got me sat up. Alan removed my cap, as I'd said I'd hit my head, so that he could just check if everything was ok. His reaction was dramatic and something along the lines of "OH MY GOD, someone get a med kit!". To be honest, I thought he was just taking the piss to make me feel better and was expecting the next line "only joking". But it never came. I had a hole in my head and it was leaking lots of blood and scalp tissue. The marshals had already called ceasefire, and the players all responded immediately - I felt terrible I'd ruined the game and lost them playing time. I was carted off the field and I have to say, the YTA team (and Alan and Andy, two very kind players) did a cracking job looking after me. After waiting 3 hours for an ambulance that never came, the manager of YTA, Paul arrived and decided it would be quicker to just drive me to A&E. So my heartfelt thanks to him for that, otherwise I might still be waiting! Sum total of damage - hole in head, sewn up with four stitches, two broken ribs and severe bruising. Damage to my SRS and MK23 is currently unknown as I haven't dared look. The irony of doing that much damage to myself in an effort to not get shot a lot and then getting shot a lot as well is not lost on me. They're certainly my worst injuries from airsoft, how about you guys and gals?

Proof that Joule Creep is not a thing.
sonofsammo replied to sonofsammo's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, that's really bad! I'm guessing you've corrected it since then? -
Well, not really. Sorry, I meant Joule creep is a thing. Table attached is a set of five shot strings. First column is using 0.2g and second is 0.48g. Third column isn't relevant to Joule creep, I just wanted to know what difference a single power ring would make. So by changing the weight of my ammunition I get around a 13% increase in power. Because of variance in chrono's I don't run my rifle close to the 2.32J limit any more and still get decent enough range and accuracy. But imagine if I had it set up for 2.32J on 0.2g BB's, as lots of places chrono on 0.2 - they even provide them for you. That would mean when I swapped to my 0.48s, I would be shooting at around 2.62J. It's no longer an airsoft rifle. It's not an air rifle. It's a section five firearm. Which I could use at some sites to shoot AT people. Now that's just utterly fricking mental. In fact, what's more mental is, even without a change in ammunition, it's still a section 5 firearm, because of the "readily convertible" aspect. Anyway, I'm off to somewhere that chrono's on 0.2s tomorrow. Tally Ho!
-
First game in what feels like forever. Although I will withhold my potential excitement as it's at F&O Stealth Woods and I'm not a fan of their chrono policy... But I will have to wait and see.
Hopefully it'll be good to get out there again. Fingers crossed!-
What random rules do they apply (to those that bother to follow them)?
[EDIT] Oh, never mind, that's the lot with voluntary chrono but you'll get caught in game, which I actually agree with if they chrono aggressively all through to the end of the day.
But they have that dribbling drivel about "actual" versus "variance" energy limits, when what they really have is "HPA" versus "everything else" limits, just phrased in an unnecessarily obfuscated way.
