  1. Same reason people upgrade mundane cars to sometimes ridiculous levels of performance. Whether it's cost effective rarely comes into it. It's not uncommon to see the £2000 car with £20000 of upgrades and work outperformed by the untouched car that cost £10000. But I think it's very possible to take a £120 CM16, spend £100 on carefully selected parts and have it perform at least as well as a £350 rifle. It would arguably be a better Airsoft gun... Lighter, tough polymer that can take a few knocks... But given the choice between the Plain Jane that works really well or the average performing but high spec appearance, which do you choose?
  2. Finished. The second hand bargain bought as a 'doer upper'. I think the only thing that's left of the original is the sight, the outer barrel, hop and bucking plus the flash mags . On the plus side I now have nearly enough bits to build another one. And I'm never buying a second hand gun ever again. Perhaps we should start a thread for the horrors we find inside guns that have been 'upgraded' by amateur techs with two screw drivers and a hammer.
  3. Problem I've had with trying to shim certain combinations of gearbox shell /bushes/gears is there isn't enough width in the shell for the gears to run freely. What worked for me is to put the offending gear in with one of the bushes (don't try this with bearings) the wrong way up. Then very carefully tighten down (not fully, just until you don't dare tighten any more for fear of stripping threads) the gearbox screws around it in an even pattern. Not recommended but it should push the gearbox sides out just enough to give the clearance needed.
  4. A very nice man is going to print me one of these for fitting a stock to a G&G Tr16 CRW (pistol M4). These are modeled in Onshape, and then exported as stl files with a fine mesh which comes out like...
  5. If anyone is looking for a true parametric modelling software that'll export stl files I can recommend Onshape. It's free as long as you don't mind your models being public, and as it is cloud based it'll genuinely run on a tablet. The interface is really well set up for touch screens. And it'll do assemblies.
  6. Just bought all the bits required to rescue a G&G Top Tech that has previously been owned by someone who fancied themselves as a 'tech' and had tried to DSG it. Not pretty.
  7. Geoffs 0.4 and 0.36g BBs. Thought I'd see if the lighter ammo makes a difference when you're stuck with a 400fps limit for DMRs and BASRs, and to compare them with the ASG 0.4g I've been using up to now. A One Tigris folding mesh/fabric mask. Comfier than the full mesh and it also covers the gap left between my old mask and my eye protection at the bridge of my nose that seemed to be a magnet for flying BBs!
  8. Only cos I couldn't find matt paint rattle cans in the correct colours! It's not quite as far off as the pics make it look. I think the lighting on the matt lacquer knocks the colours back. But if anyone questions me about it, it's Winter Flecktarn!
  9. Quite pleased with the way this has turned out...
  10. 1m of EPDM tube off Ebay to have a play with R Hops.
