What's Blue and not very heavy?

Ian at forgotten weapons also has a good break down, but I think Larry Vickers is the first one who actually shows it firing when he went to Russia, he also fires the AEK971 too and compares them If I remember correctly.

I've wanted a G3 for the best part of 20 years, not sure why it's taken me this long to finally get one, and by one.. I mean a G3 and all the bits n bobs to claim five guns in one 😁 - such a modular system for it's time 😎 Started off life as a Classic Army G3SG1 Standard G3A3 config with the slim hand-guard, no rail up top, bare bones... still probably my favourite config (LCT hand-guard and stock added) : G3A4 with slim hand-guard: This is how I've currently got it setup... but where does the battery go? 🙃 Then we have the A4 with the wide hand-guard; with bipod in this case, technically making it the cod4 configuration I believe: Then the A3 with wide hand-guard - my least favourite config tbh: And then finally the G3SG1 : A few notes and ramblings on this project: By some measurements of an HK RIF this CA was a piece of crap - cocking lever made of literal margarine came flying off after maybe 5 slaps... wth is the point in having an HK replica if I can't slap the crap out of it. Anyway replaced that with a steel LCT cocking lever. slap slap slap slap... too many times a day 😏 - needed some minor modding to fit well with the CA cocking tube. The LCT furniture is NOT compatible with the CA (TM) style body and front set - both slim hand-guard and OD stock needed an annoying amount of dremeling and filing to get them to fit - but they did... eventually. LCT ribbed magazine also needed work - too tight of a fit for the CA metal body - filing of the shell needed as well as the well known fix for LCT mags - shim up from the bottom to raise the feed lips to get it to feed reliably. I've wired in a second battery harnesses through the receiver - one to the front for A4 and one to the back for A3 configs respectively. A4 stock mod 1 - added lock grooves all the way along the sliders to allow one inch increment stock position adjustments, the Original A4 stock had two positons, fully open or fully closed - I like to run mine 1-2 inches shorter than fully open: A4 stock mod 2 - I love the look of these, however they are quite uncomfortable as they sit into your collar bone, firing a real .308 off of one must be nasty. Replaced the hard rubber but pad with an inch of EVA foam cut to shape and screwed in using the original holes: I plan to add some sort of cheek riser/pad to the A4 system, thinking maybe canibolising an SVD one 🤔 Finally the most annoying mod I had to carry out was to excavate five tons of material out of the LCT slim hand-guard in order to fit a 1300mah 11.1v lipo inside around the barrel - but it's working great now and surprisingly is not that difficult to get the battery in.

Funnily enough going on to their website I see I had an item in the shopping basket with them. Not actually purchased anything, however their shipping page is comprehensive and well put together with clear indication they have no problems shipping to the UK - Added them onto the EU list 👍

I think principally this all seems pretty sound. But, all that in my mind still does not quite sync with that sudden price to BB weight escalation, with most of the hikes between weights gaining between 20-50% in price where as that .32-.36 sees an almost 300% hike, feels devoid of business or business psychology considerations. So, the other thing I have started observing recently is more and more people using heavy ammo in their AEGs and HPAs at the chrono, including pretty frequent declaration of .36 - piggy bank smashed lol. The point being the market cap for heavier ammo has definitely expanded and more and more people seem to be leaving 0.2/0.23/0.25 for something a bit heftier. I would actually love to see a survey done on what weight BB everyone in the UK is using, as the landscape has undoubtedly changed since I first started when 90% of my team mates except snipers were using 0.2. Maybe we could run that poll 😁 I remember taking my old 1.9j Well L96 (RIP) out for the first time probably in 2008 and thinking, this is the perfect opportunity to test out those new .25 gram BBs 😆 Okay so that's pretty interesting, tbh I was spit balling in my head about heavy cores, but if this is the case, depending on materials and potential difference in manufacturing techniques with heavier material, this actually could be a significant part of the reason for the jump 🤔

hmm So this point did occur to me too, it's no doubt true (or should be with a well selected/tuned barrel, hop and rubber) that you should be able to use your rounds a bit more efficiently. However I really find it hard to believe this is factored into the price per unit at the business level - unless again, .36 is considered the entry level into bolt actions I.e. you are buying sniper ammo as opposed to AEG ammo at this point.

Evening all, long time no see 🖐️ - hope you're all well! So, I'm only noticing now the price jump between .32 to .36 gram BBs, as I've never actually used above .3 myself. Anyone know exactly why that is? Off the cuff, I can think of three possibilities: - Less sale and production volume of .36 + sold. So, to justify production they need to sell more (there is probably an economics term for that lol) - At that weight they need to start incorporating a heavier core to the BB that adds more weight than the standard plastic / ABS can create? So a more complex production? (I think I'm just plain wrong here, never heard of anything like this) - The final reason I could think of was that at .36 grams the industry considers you to be moving from common AEG weights into single shot sniper rifle territory, therefore less ammo is consumed, and a higher price is justified. The most stark and easy to see example of this is with Geoffs, where there is very gradual incremental price rise from .2>.25>.28>.3>.32 and then a massive leap from .32>.36. We are talking £14.29 & £17.99 for 3k .32 Standard and Precision respectively, and then a whopping £38.79 & £52.29 for .36 - not a jab at outdoortactical below, as the pricing seems to be pretty universal across the 4 shops I checked who had Geoffs and the trend does also seem to apply to other brands too. https://www.outdoorandtactical.co.uk/?post_type=product&orderby=popularity&s=geoffs+BBs

cool, added to the Asia list

https://www.sixmm.com/ added, used these guys a few times over the last couple years, surprised I hadn't added them before now. Also, I was going through some links and realised there are some dead ones, will do some spring cleaning when I get a minute. I also want to be sure they are actually permanently gone as opposed to just temporarily down. Looks like gunnerairsoft may be having problems, kinda sad if it's gone as it's one of the og ACM RIF shops, not that i have actually used them inside the 2010s onwards
-
Yeah looks like they packed up about a year ago according to a reddit post from that time... will take them off the list for the time being.
-
@The_Lord_PonchoYeah looking through 18airsoft now, and they actually have some great prices and parts... 16 quid for an E&C QD v2 shell with spring guide, not bad at all! They have a full range of both brushless and non brushed Solink motors.. I've had their 39k brushless for about two weeks now testing in a boneyard m4 and it's absolutely awesome, makes a 7.4v 25c run like an 11.1v. Anyway, I had no idea they made so many different models. Will try 18A out!
-
Yeah would appear to be Hong Kong based: https://www.18airsoft.com/pages/ordering-information Will add it on

Sorry for the delay, I don't think I got the notification for this 😶 Both added to the UK retailer list 👍

An old Finnish joke about the Winter War: A large group of Russian soldiers in the border area in 1939 are moving down a road, when they hear a voice call from behind a small hill: "One Finnish soldier is better than ten Russians". The Russian commander quickly orders 10 of his best men over the hill where a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence. The voice once again calls out: "One Finn is better than one hundred Russians." Furious, the Russian commander sends his next best 100 troops over the hill and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence. The calm Finnish voice calls out again: "One Finn is better than one thousand Russians!" The enraged Russian commander musters 1000 fighters and sends them to the other side of the hill. Rifle fire, machine guns, grenades, rockets and cannon fire ring out as a terrible battle is fought... Then silence. Eventually one badly wounded Russian fighter crawls back over the hill and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men... it's a trap. There are two of them!"
